AVANT Ratings and Reviews
We had 7:30 reservations. After we were seated it took a very long time to get our server over to the table to take our order. We received our drinks then after a long time got bread and butter. Slow service was the name of the game for the evening. We ran out of butter right away as the three of us were hungry and it took a long time to get the servers over to bring more butter. After an hour wait, our food came out and we started eating. In all, dinner took 2 hours from ordering to finish of meal, we all agreed it was way too long. The servers blamed it on a private party in the next room. We were hosting a friend from out of the country and felt our dinner out was not the best, sad to say.
As one in our party stated "best steak in my 36 years". From the delicious and inventive apps, to the perfectly cooked filet, to the scrumptious desserts (we had 3) it was all top tier.
I can't say enough about the goat cheese cheesecake. So yummy.
You won't be disappointed with the quality of the food. Service was exceptional as well.
Excellent as always! Menu a bit narrow/limited but superb execution on food preparation and presentation. Filet with sauce was absolutely wonderful. Enjoy coming to the RB Inn for lots of reasons/occasions. Very nice setting and all-around experience. Highly recommend Avant.
AVANT was recommended to us by a customer with offices nearby. We had an outstanding meal for 8 people. The menu was fresh and varied, with many of the items crafted from local ingredients in exquisite combinations. I was impressed by the pleasant, informative manner of our server and the efficiency of the staff. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a great way to treat our customer!
I have dined here numerous times. The food is excellent. On this visit the service was off. The restaurant was not at all busy on a Sunday evening but the service was lacking. The wait staff were chatting together and wandering around not waiting on tables. It was difficult to obtain the servers attention to the point where it became humorous. The music was very loud and more suitable for after close activities rather than dining.
Celebrated our anniversary dinner at Avant in the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Excellent service, a beautiful restaurant and the food was really good. Don't pass up the Corn Chowder Soup, absolutely excellent. I ordered the Salmon and it could have been cooked just a bit longer, but had wonderful flavor and I didn't leave a bite on the plate. Our experience was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a great dinner at a nice neighborhood vanue.
Atmosphere vibrant , great cocktails. Service in bar needs improvement. We ordered appetizer that never made it to the table. Food in restaurant came out cold and not very tasty. My husband had Ciopino and had to be returned . The lamb shank was the only dish that was tasty but cold. Prices are good but food is average. I love this resort and plan to return. I hope the Chef can improve his food by the time I return,
AVANT is an excellent dining spot for a special occasion or just a night out. It is stylish without being pretentious. I brought my father and brother for a "night out." Our server Brad was very attentive and the food was on-point. I was pleased with the array of house-made product including a wonderful Sixty Day Dry Aged RIb Eye, house made Foraged Mushroom Pappardelle and an amazing Calamari Dish that incorporated hot and sweet. Dessert was excellent also! I should also mention that the cocktails were excellent. If your looking to celebrate an occasion or "just because" this is a worthy dining spot. Be sure to the the staff know if you have any special requests or a special occasion! Its a great alternative to down-town offering up a quiet location within Rancho Bernardo Inn. For those who enjoy the outdoors AVANT also offers a lovely patio complete with fireplace and a view of the surrounding golf course and resort.
Chose to sit on the outdoor patio which was very nice. We had reservations and we were greeted and shown our table promptly. Took about 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us, then brought a bottle of wine that was ordered. After that, we sat for close to 45 minutes without any attention from her at all. And only got service when we flagged her down. A table next to us was seated, orders taken and food served and we had to beg for her attention. She seemed annoyed that we even were in the restaurant but when the food finally came, it was presented well and tasted good. Will give it another try since its a beautiful venue and the food is very good.
While the food and the ambiance at Avant is always good, it's really the service we receive that keeps us coming back. We're typically fortunate enough to get the same waiter and he always remembers us, has good wine recommendations for us, and generally makes us feel welcome and appreciated.
5 of us enjoyed a nice dinner to celebrate a b.d.. Server addressed celebrant by name - from my Open Table notes, I think - the entire time. It was a nice touch & he gave us great service. 4 of us liked their entree; 1 was unimpressed. 2 had the same dish which server offered to have shells & heads removed from the shellfish. 1 said yes, 1 said no.. It was at least 20 min, maybe longer, b4 shelled & de-headed meal came out. She insisted we start eating without her & it was awkward for us & for her, & we were all finished by the time her meal arrived. Server was very apologetic & when bill arrived, that meal was not included.
We stayed at the Ranch Bernardo Inn so we had a very relaxing happy hour with a very friendly and helpful server, Holly. She helped us pick a nice table for dinner for our later reservations. By the time we arrived for dinner, the restaurant was very busy and noisy outside. The wait staff kindly reseated us in a booth in the bar area which was much quieter for conversation. We were lucky to get Holly again and she steered us to wine choices and food selections we enjoyed very much, especially since we had 3 of us who avoid dairy or were vegan.
Overall the experience was wonderful beginning and ending with our superb wait staff member Ellie. Seasoned professional and delightful as well.
The fare was lovely starting with a smoky pear soup, and the Mediterranean Sea bass which was crisp yet moist accompanied by taste filled sauces. The chicken was very good, perhaps in need of a bit more distinction but we cannot fault the preparation as a whole. The wedge salad also very good indeed.
The chocolate caramel dessert delicious and a smashing finish.
* There happened to be a large party dining nearby that were terribly noisy and unconscious of others dining experience but that was hardly the fault of the restaurant. Maybe the acoustics could be better.
We had a lovely time at Avant. The ambience and cocktails were lovely. The appetizer and most of the sauces were very salty. The filet mignon and scallops were delicious if you didn't incorporate the sauces.
The service was wonderful and they gave us a nice cheesecake dessert for our anniversary.
Last day of conference at the Hotel and did not feel like driving somewhere. Our expectation where very low being what I assumed was another Hotel Restaurant. We where amazed at the get go. The ambiance, the setting, wine list ...$6 Tables Creek by the glass, and a well priced high end wine list. Being a wino and having a passion, you know they know. The food was just has impressive beautifully presented and well prepared. The Chef and staff here are world class. Well done! If you live in San Diego and don't know, give them a try,a nice hidden gem. Be prepared for a memorable night.
A very disappointing evening. Throughout the years we have enjoyed many meals at the Rancho Bernardo Inn and were looking forward to visiting Avant for the first time. The new design is welcoming and casual. A promising evening with friends lay ahead, I thought.
Martinis, our favorite enjoyed many times at The Veranda downstairs, the Jackie O, was ordered - the waiter had never heard of it. He explained that the bar upstairs and downstairs worked separately, but he would ask the bar tender if she could make them. First time I have ever been served a martini - a bad one - in a tumbler.
The meal continued. Next up, the bread and butter, fresh and tasty. We eventually ordered the main course; two ordered halibut, two ordered spinach gnocchi. The halibut was delicious, declared the two diners. No such luck with the gummy, chewy, gnocchi. Bleh! And the waiter never returned to check in with us, either. In the meantime, one diner requested a second glass of iced tea. She received her tea - sans ice. Requesting ice for her iced tea, it finally arrived - ten minutes later.
Finally, time to pay the bill. You'd think in this day of advanced technology that, should one diner need to pay her share with a credit card, that transaction could be easily handled. Nope, not at Avant. I won't even go into the trouble that caused.
Eventually, the manager was called to our table. We explained our disappointing evening meal experience. Yes, he was nice, but insincerely so. We felt as though he wanted to pat us on the head, and just offered platitudes.
We won't be going back to Avant. Too many other restaraunt choices in the area.
Kudos to Avant. I enjoyed the food, and the great service we received. Thomas was attentive and made our dinning experience very nice. Please let him know that his service was exceptional and we are extrememly thankful.
The dinner and wine selection was on point and was very delectable. Compliments to the chef and team!!
If I had only one thing to change, it would have been the selection of music from the musican playing live. The drum beats, which was a bit loud and sounded like it was radiating from a broken speaker, took away from a totally exceptional dining experience. It didn't compliment the ambiance of the restaurant. It was just shy of annoying at times and is the only reason I did not give the restaurant five stars.
delishious food and great service. the filet melted in your mouth and the succotash that went with it was good. If you have room, try the coffee and donuts, ultra decedent, but awesome. The only bummer was being sat right by the door that the servers went in and out of every minute, that was pretty distracting.
We came here for our 25 year anniversary dinner and it was spectacular the food is amazing and the server offered us a complimentary glass of champagne when we sat down. We ordered the Seabass and the cod which were both amazing dishes their desserts are truly amazing and the best part was the charcuterie!
Although I'm not adverse to high prices, the quality of the food must meet expectations. When ordering gnocchi, we couldn't believe the plate was half empty. Small clusters of pasta were artfully placed for effect, while not a full serving. Plate presentation should not be the overwhelming factor, while sacrificing quantity for high price. Duck Confi was billed as a sharing item, while one minuscule leg was presented. Filet minion was too small. Eventhough my steak portion was underwhelming, I felt bad for my wife and daughter's pasta order and doled out portion of my steak.
My husband, kids, and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne and great service throughout our meal! The kids had kid appropriate options. We had an early reservation since we had our kids with us and received the best service. We will definitely go back again!
Except for a few old wealthy-looking guys hanging out at the bar, the rest of the bar scene, the restaurant furnishings, food offerings, LOUD music, and cute young servers indicated that this was the place for hip young things. The food was just okay, but presented beautifully. One should go here to see and be seen, not for the food (but it wouldn't take much for the menu to be kicked up a star or two). I'd send my daughter and her friends here, but my husband and I won't be back.
AVANT is a great addition to the North County scene. In the lovely RB Inn (which has spectacular grounds), this is a beautiful dining experience. I was surprised by the casual feel - very different from the previous restaurant at this spot. The restaurant has a very open feel, with the bar set steps up from the dining. The bar scene is very active and at times loud for diners.
My wife and I enjoyed dining at Avant. We got a watermelon salad that was good but a little small. The entrees were magnificent! The filet mignon was so melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the halibut was perfectly paired with carrot purée, tempura, and shaved baked (guessing) carrot chips. Would definitely dine here again.
