Avalon Restaurant - West Chester Ratings and Reviews
All around, superb. The staff was attentive and always ready. The food was delectable. I advise the pizza with blue cheese and ribs as well as the truffle fries-
Yum! The cocktails were handcrafted magic. I will absolutely be visiting again and dining with my girlfriend. Just be sure that if you are lucky enough to get the couch table, you ensure there is not a party of drunken, bombastic middle aged women expecting the same table.
Party of 9 for a birthday dinner. It took 30 minutes to get drinks, we had to ask to order apps, entrees started arriving 1 hour and 40 minutes after being seated but it took several minutes as they came out one or two at a time. We twice complained about service. Manager came over to table...after all food was finally delivered. Food was very good but I don't think we'll be back. Too many good restaurants in West Chester with good food and much better customer service.
Appetizer and entrees were great, dessert not so great. Service was extremely slow with both the food coming out of the kitchen and drinks coming from the bar. Noise level really high, we had to lean in to hear each other speak. AC was up too high, had to ask them to turn it down.
Avalon is one of my family's go-to restaurants for special occasions. We were there for Mother's Day brunch. The food was good as always; however, service was slow - we didn't receive our main dishes until over an hour had passed, and even then, one of the orders was incorrect. It was a disappointing experience, but they still have a great track record.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in quite some time. We went to Mother's Day brunch. They botched my son's order not once but twice and refused to fix it. While the waiter was quite nice, the food selection was subpar and ordinary, and the service was painfully slow. That would have been enough to never dine there again, but there's more. During the meal the chef launched into a profanity laced tirade at one of the staff members that the entire restaurant heard and leaving all of us speechless - the restaurant was filled with young families so this behavior was beyond inappropriate. I must say this was the second time dining at Avalon and while the first time was not quite as eventful, it was very disappointing. West Chester has many very good dining options; don't waste your time or money on this one.
Beautiful place with great music and food!! Our waitress was very attentive and personable. The only negative is that we had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time, only to be seated at a table that was vacant since we arrived. The hostess was trying to keep up with setting tables and sitting guests, she was extremely friendly and apologized for our wait. Overall though, everyone enjoyed their meal and the music.
Been to Avalon numerous times and always had a great meal, but the service was abhorrent this time. In fact, at one point the entire room (6 tables) began openly talking to each other about how ridiculous it was, and how we all should have left a long time ago. The owner's wife was there and did little to improve the situation or compensate anyone for it, instead she chose to complain about how good help is hard to find with a "poor me" attitude. For 4 of us it was nearly $300 and took 3 hours for 2 courses (we only got apps and entrees). They offered us free dessert, we said we didn't have another 2 hours to waste. So sad when a good thing goes away.
My friend and I enjoyed the Chef's Tasting Menu with Wine last week, a delayed Christmas gift. I have also had the Thursday night Wine Dinner here on a couples dinner - an exceptional value. Everything on menu has been tremendous. Dishes are artfully prepared and delicious. The portions on the tasting menu are plentiful but not so huge that you are uncomfortable at the end - just right. Keep in mind that for these tasting dinners, everyone at the table must be participating. If you choose to order off the menu, there's really nothing you can go wrong with here. This last time we were seated close to the bar, which is an attractive area but can be a bit noisy. But honestly, as busy WC restaurants go, it's not that loud. If noise bothers you, request the carpeted dining room.
Terrific Easter Brunch sitting outside in the casual "sofa" area and enjoying great food and bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys. We all had something different from the extensive 3 course selections and were all very happy. John and his staff did a fine job. One of West Chester's best.
Great spot for couples and groups. Good draft beer list, plus many other cocktails to choose from. The menu isn't extensive, but it still gave me pause before I could decide what I wanted. My wife and I started with fried calamari that was lightly fried and very tender. For her entree, my wife chose shrimp and gnocchi, which she loved. And I went a different route -- they have burgers on the menu. While the burger was cooked over what I asked, it was still very juicy and flavorful, and was served with delicious truffle fries. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert (maybe next time).
The service was good. Only complaint was that it took about 10 minutes for them to ready a table after we arrived on time for our reservation. But they were friendly about it and kept us informed that they were working on it. Also, the bar was boisterous on our Friday night visit, which meant the restaurant was loud, too.
All in all, we plan to revisit.
Great food, but always horrible service. It took 30 minutes for our drinks, an hour for appetizers and an hour and a half for our dinner. It wasn't even crowded.... No apologies or compensation. Again the food is great, but I've never had good service. It's quite disappointing.
Start of my bday weekend celebration, first stop Avalon. We had a reservation and the restaurant was not busy when we walked in, yet, it took awhile to seat us and the hostess seemed a bit disorganized. Once seated, service was slow, and not super attentive. Our food was good, octopus appetizer was super yummy. Our entrees, lobster ravioli and the shrimp/scallop special were good. We did not have dessert, nothing really piques my interest. Overall, a good meal but nothing memorable. If we return, it would only be for drinks and apps at the bar.
