Went to Bar Avalon with a friend for dinner. Took them an hour to serve our dinner (after receiving appetizers). We were not served until 9pm with a 7pm reservation.
All around, superb. The staff was attentive and always ready. The food was delectable. I advise the pizza with blue cheese and ribs as well as the truffle fries-
Yum! The cocktails were handcrafted magic. I will absolutely be visiting again and dining with my girlfriend. Just be sure that if you are lucky enough to get the couch table, you ensure there is not a party of drunken, bombastic middle aged women expecting the same table.
Owner is onsite and keeps drinks and food service moving timely. Food is very good. Happy Hour pricing makes it very affordable.
Used to have such good food. Now it's McItalian. This is a shadow of its former self. What happened? I used to love the Menue di Giorno.
Came for advertised crab and pasta. No bread or crab hammers/ crackers. No cucumber at bar for advertised cucumber drink. Disappointing.
The service, food, and atmosphere were great. However, the prices were quite high for the portions.
My wife and I went with friends for a date night and had a great time. We highly recommend the Smoked Manhattan and we discovered it didn't matter what food we ordered; all of it tasted wonderful.
Party of 9 for a birthday dinner. It took 30 minutes to get drinks, we had to ask to order apps, entrees started arriving 1 hour and 40 minutes after being seated but it took several minutes as they came out one or two at a time. We twice complained about service. Manager came over to table...after all food was finally delivered. Food was very good but I don't think we'll be back. Too many good restaurants in West Chester with good food and much better customer service.
Great time at one of our West Chester favorites . Dined outside on warm evening and enjoyed everything from start to finish. Very good service from Daniel. Love Avalon.
Food was good but service was terrible. We were surprised actually because we've been there before!
Avalon is probabaly my favorite restaurant in downtown West Chester. We go every few months. This was our first AYCE blue crab night and it was great! $29 and comes with an antipasto board and crab fries. So yummy and fun!
Appetizer and entrees were great, dessert not so great. Service was extremely slow with both the food coming out of the kitchen and drinks coming from the bar. Noise level really high, we had to lean in to hear each other speak. AC was up too high, had to ask them to turn it down.
Very nice. Great risotto that you had to wait for, a good sign that it's real!
Had a great experience for a group of 8. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Sat outside, had great service, delicious food and lots of laughs.
Everything was great.... gluten free four course meal for my anniversary was the BEST!! Thanks for the manager who made accomodstions even for us to have a private table in the wine room so we could talk and enjoy celebrating away from the crowd!
We came to Avalon for the all you can eat crab special and the crabs were very tasty!
Went for Mother's Day dinner, was a very great experience, food and service was exceptional as always!
Took my mom for Mother's Day brunch... it took a while for food to arrive but that's the only complaint. Food was great
Wonderful Mother'Day brunch for our family with great selections on the $35 prix fixe menu and nice drinks. Very enjoyable time in one of West Chester's best restaurants.
Avalon is one of my family's go-to restaurants for special occasions. We were there for Mother's Day brunch. The food was good as always; however, service was slow - we didn't receive our main dishes until over an hour had passed, and even then, one of the orders was incorrect. It was a disappointing experience, but they still have a great track record.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in quite some time. We went to Mother's Day brunch. They botched my son's order not once but twice and refused to fix it. While the waiter was quite nice, the food selection was subpar and ordinary, and the service was painfully slow. That would have been enough to never dine there again, but there's more. During the meal the chef launched into a profanity laced tirade at one of the staff members that the entire restaurant heard and leaving all of us speechless - the restaurant was filled with young families so this behavior was beyond inappropriate. I must say this was the second time dining at Avalon and while the first time was not quite as eventful, it was very disappointing. West Chester has many very good dining options; don't waste your time or money on this one.
Beautiful place with great music and food!! Our waitress was very attentive and personable. The only negative is that we had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time, only to be seated at a table that was vacant since we arrived. The hostess was trying to keep up with setting tables and sitting guests, she was extremely friendly and apologized for our wait. Overall though, everyone enjoyed their meal and the music.
Service was slow. Our waiter did not pay attention to our table. We ended up with a complimentary appeitzer for the wait. Food was decent. Would not recommend this
Been to Avalon numerous times and always had a great meal, but the service was abhorrent this time. In fact, at one point the entire room (6 tables) began openly talking to each other about how ridiculous it was, and how we all should have left a long time ago. The owner's wife was there and did little to improve the situation or compensate anyone for it, instead she chose to complain about how good help is hard to find with a "poor me" attitude. For 4 of us it was nearly $300 and took 3 hours for 2 courses (we only got apps and entrees). They offered us free dessert, we said we didn't have another 2 hours to waste. So sad when a good thing goes away.
My friend and I enjoyed the Chef's Tasting Menu with Wine last week, a delayed Christmas gift. I have also had the Thursday night Wine Dinner here on a couples dinner - an exceptional value. Everything on menu has been tremendous. Dishes are artfully prepared and delicious. The portions on the tasting menu are plentiful but not so huge that you are uncomfortable at the end - just right. Keep in mind that for these tasting dinners, everyone at the table must be participating. If you choose to order off the menu, there's really nothing you can go wrong with here. This last time we were seated close to the bar, which is an attractive area but can be a bit noisy. But honestly, as busy WC restaurants go, it's not that loud. If noise bothers you, request the carpeted dining room.
I was there for a Birthday brunch. The only comment I think that is worth noting is that the band was just a bit too loud based on the amount of people in the place.
Overall we enjoyed Avalon. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lively. But the service was way too slow. It took over 90 minutes to get our entrees. Eat here if not in a rush at all.
Food and service was amazing. Will definitely be going back.
Food was very good. Hostess was nice and waiter was good. Drinks were fine but pricey!
First time for white pizza with brussel spouts.
Food was great. Had a 730 reservation got seated 30 min late and service was pretty slow. But would go back again because the food was great
Had to wait for table/-directed to bar. Others coming in seated first. Food great! Service great! Too noisy!
Terrific Easter Brunch sitting outside in the casual "sofa" area and enjoying great food and bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys. We all had something different from the extensive 3 course selections and were all very happy. John and his staff did a fine job. One of West Chester's best.
Great spot for couples and groups. Good draft beer list, plus many other cocktails to choose from. The menu isn't extensive, but it still gave me pause before I could decide what I wanted. My wife and I started with fried calamari that was lightly fried and very tender. For her entree, my wife chose shrimp and gnocchi, which she loved. And I went a different route -- they have burgers on the menu. While the burger was cooked over what I asked, it was still very juicy and flavorful, and was served with delicious truffle fries. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert (maybe next time).
The service was good. Only complaint was that it took about 10 minutes for them to ready a table after we arrived on time for our reservation. But they were friendly about it and kept us informed that they were working on it. Also, the bar was boisterous on our Friday night visit, which meant the restaurant was loud, too.
All in all, we plan to revisit.
Beautiful patio and delicious food!
We had another excellent dinner at Avalon, we've eaten there several times and are always very pleased.
Avalon has a great menu with outstanding service. The entertainment at the bar was great.
Food was amazing! Can't wait to go back!
We had a lovely evening. Delicious food, great ambiance and great service. Definitely would recommend this local gem.
Great food, but always horrible service. It took 30 minutes for our drinks, an hour for appetizers and an hour and a half for our dinner. It wasn't even crowded.... No apologies or compensation. Again the food is great, but I've never had good service. It's quite disappointing.
Start of my bday weekend celebration, first stop Avalon. We had a reservation and the restaurant was not busy when we walked in, yet, it took awhile to seat us and the hostess seemed a bit disorganized. Once seated, service was slow, and not super attentive. Our food was good, octopus appetizer was super yummy. Our entrees, lobster ravioli and the shrimp/scallop special were good. We did not have dessert, nothing really piques my interest. Overall, a good meal but nothing memorable. If we return, it would only be for drinks and apps at the bar.
