Avalon Grille Ratings and Reviews
Im so Glad i made Reservation with Special Requested ask for Corner Quiet In the Dark Table with 20 Roses and a Botle of Red Wine and suprise my wife on our 20 years Aniversary
Thank You to all people at Avalon Grille to made this request possible i recoment this place for a Romantic specially Aniversary Dinner
One of Avalon's better upscale eateries. Friendly waiter, nice ambiance. I ordered the Scallops dish- it was yummy! Beware of the $99 margarita...yes $99!! Our waiter was kind enough to point it out to us when we ordered it (we hadn't noticed the price). Needless to say, we were very appreciative of the "heads up." We"modified" our order to a more affordable and still satisfying cocktail!
Convenient location if you don't have a golf cart- right off the green pier and right down the way from El Galleon(fun karaoke) and around the corner from The Marlin Club (fun dive bar)that has fun live (throwback) bands.
nice looking restaurant, well-located. food was average and menu rather limited. main issue was with very slow food and even slower arrival of parts of the dish which it seemed the chef left out, despite being on the menu! whilst there is not much choice in avalon for fine dining, we were not impressed enough to try again.
Great location, but the service was very slow and not attentive. Had to ask our server to take away empty plates when he was there to drop off drinks. The grilled octopus was good, but everything else, Corbina, swordfish and steak were not that good. Certainly not worth the price.
We had reservations at 4:30 but had to wait at the bar until 6:00. Was not happy since it was Thanksgiving and it was just me and my husband on a trip without family. I understand the restaurant was very busy and they tried their best to accommodate. We actually really like this restaurant and just had a bad experience due to it being Thanksgiving and over booked with reservations evidently.
Decided to have seafood for Thanksgiving dinner and Avalon Grille didn't disappoint. The scallops and calamari entree was sublime. The grilled octopus appetizer was thrilling and tasty with a hint of spice. My only critique would be to tell us where/who/when the seafood was caught, especially if it was local. But the restaurant does say they only support sustainable seafood. Thanks!
We dined here for the first night if our girls getaway weekend. We loved the service and ambiance. Our food was delicious too. I ordered the short ribs and my austere the burger. Her burger was a little overdone but still tasty. The price is kind of high but you pay for the view and good food.
I said earlier your waiter was excellent. But the staff at the front door tried to give our table away to someone who just entered. Until I reminded them I had made an reservation for my 16th anniversary. Then they decided to seat us.
Also you should teach your staff about the pictures any paintings of your family you have in the restaurant as there are many people who visit your restaurant and ask who is that in the picture or when was that taken. Or even questions like when was this restaurant built. But your staff admitted they knew nothing about your family or any of the pictures. To me this is incredible as people visit your island are interested in your family.
Overall your restaurant is clean and nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. But little things like knowing something is important to me when I go to a restaurant.
This is called a “grille” but has a dinner-house menu, prices ($$$) and decor. The decor is classy, nostalgic and elegant, really nice. The music didn’t fit (beach boys/ 80’s dance music?) and I asked the bartender if they could play some dinner music, but nothing changed.
There was a family with a crying baby that we had to ask the waitress to do something about and she told the manager. It was awkward, but it was sooo nice once they left.
The wait staff brought cake for my Mother’s birthday and sang, so sweet. Thx!
I started with the roasted tomato soup and ordered the plantain-crusted halibut. Everything was delicious and flavorful. It was a generous portion and I couldn't eat it all. Everyone at my table liked what they ordered (calamari, filet, and shrimp) and said it was one of the best meals of the weekend. Thank you!
We really enjoyed the Avalon Grille and appreciated the creative menu and attentive staff. while 'on island' for the annual Jazz Festival we were lucky to squeeze a reservation in between shows and really enjoyed our experience. The braised and grilled octopus was outstanding as was halibut. When deliveries via the ferry from LA were off, the chef found other interesting options to add to the menu. The butternut squash soup (my first this season) will be hard to top.
The food is good, albeit overpriced due to the island location and its affiliation with the island company. If you sit outside on a weekend, be aware that you'll be catching the noise (and pedestrian traffic) from nearby watering holes such as the Marlin Club, which can disrupt the "mood" of the place.
This is by far one of our worst experiences at a restaurant. The service was nearly nonexistence. The dinner took over two hours and we didn't get dessert. The restaurant was so loud that we couldn't hear each other.
- Duo of Gazpacho: the best dish of the evening.
- Caesar salad: average.
- Crispy Brussels sprouts: very greasy.
- Grilled octopus: extremely salty, should have sent it back.
- Grilled pork chop: okay, but had to order medium doneness, while told by the waitress that the chef recommends well done.
- Roasted airline chicken: very dry.
- Local white seabass: extremely fishy, you can smell the stench two feet away. We sent it back and ordered the pork chop. Waited almost an hour for the pork chop and had to asked for our waitress about the chop 3 times, who was nowhere in sight. The chop was way over cooked and bone dry. We were offered 50% off the chop. Really?
Definitely, will not return.
This restaurant came highly recommended. I ordered the sea bass. I kindly told the waiter it was the worst sea bass I have ever had. For the cost of the dish, the sea bass was unusually thin. Not like a nice, filet sized fish that I've always had in the past. Not only was it paper thin it was so dry I didn't even eat it. The waiter was very nice and graciously discounted our meal. The couple next to us was thinking about ordering the sea bass and I kindly suggested they order something else. They appreciated the advice. The waiter insisted I had a bad piece of fish, regardless, I won't be back. The bread was delicious.
For our Wedding Anniversary we "Staycationed" in
Catalina and dined here on our anniversary. The service and food were very good. My entre, Halibut, was excellent, however my husband's steak was cooked medium, not medium rare as requested. The restaurant helped with our celebration by presenting us with an anniversary dessert. A very tasty and thoughtful gesture. Overall a delightful celebration.
The restaurant is well maintained and beautiful - excellent plein air art and historic photos are delightful. Fresh flowers are a lovely tough plus a friendly waitress and delicious food. We came down from Two Harbors on our boat for a "night out" and the restaurant was a treat. Well done, Avalon Grill!
