No one told us this was merely a temporary location. We had been there several years before and it was very nice. This was a temporary facility no better than a café. food was not hot. wine was poor only thing that saved the evening was the waitress Maya who did her very best to make things right. Until they open the new restaurant they need to drop prices and tell people that it is a temporary restaurant for the convenience of their guests not a fine dinning facility. Wont go back until they open new place then its a "maybe". We have lots of fine restaurants here in Ventura. This is no longer one of them. Very disappointed. Called manager so far no call back so guess they don't care.
Excellent food, nice seating area outside. Need to be updated and maybe open a window to get the fresh air in.
Great outdoor seating area with an ocean view. Excellent food and service!
They are doing renovations so you have to walk around to the back to get to the restaurant, but IT WAS WORTH IT! The food was outstanding and the service congenial, efficient and comfortable. We definitely recommend it.
If you're looking for a very quiet location and great service this is the place to go!
And if you want non-sweet treat try the Creole Bread Pudding.
We went here expecting to have some delicious food and pleasant ambiance. The ambiance was there, but the staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and the food was mediocre. A little bummed since we were celebrating my wife's birthday.
Wonderful, relaxing, great view of the ocean...fabulous drinks!!
Sweet quiet spot for a tasty unhurried lunch, and view of the ocean!
It's on of the few places you can have a nice dinner and hear everyone at the table without yelling.
The food was well prepared. My wife had the Benedict Florentine and I had the traditional Eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfect, the Sauce was fantastic. Unfortunately the server was inattentive. We saw him once during the meal and had to wait for ten minutes or more after the table was cleared for our check. Forgivable if it was busy, but it was a quiet Sunday brunch with only a few tables occupied.
I can't believe that I have lived in Ventura for years and didn't know about this place. It's pricey but the food was great, it has a beautiful view and garden, and we were given a private room for our reservation of 6. It was perfect. I will definitely be coming again. The scallops were especially good.
We were looking for a place in Ventura for Father's Day, and this place came up on Yelp. The restaurant is located in an older hotel that is slightly rundown. The food was OK (one dish came out incorrectly twice), and the pancakes were a little rubbery. The service was decent (Pablo was very nice), but we lost him over the last 15 minutes for some unknown reason, and I had to ask for our check multiple times from different employees. The place was not horrible, but we probably won't go back again.
I love this place for breakfast.
after remodeling has finished it should be better and more accessible
Dissapointed that the Inn has not been restored to its former style and beautiful ambience that included Austen’s. Have enjoyed Austen’s and the Inn for over 50 years. It was the only place in town for a very nice breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The restaurant is in a temporary location during renovation.
Always a nice dining experience at Austen's; quiet, nice view, delicious meals.
Unless you are seated outside, there is absolutely NO VIEW from the dining room. The atmosphere is as bland as it gets. Service is friendly and attentive. The Eggs Benedict - well Chef needs to learn that this should be served with TOASTED English Muffin. The muffin was not toasted very well and was soggy. Hollandaise was good, but a tad too lemony and eggs were watery. Overall, would not return for breakfast based on the lack of view and the lackluster preparation of the Benedict. Sorry. Price was fair and service good, but the view and food were just not worth the drive.
Perfunctory service at best. Food marginally preferable to hunger. Building very old and could use a coat of paint and decent patio chairs. Hasn’t changed in 40 years.
Thanks for the birthday cake!
good service, and view
Angel and Jesus made my friends birthday breakfast the best it could be!
We enjoyed a delicious lunch with an ocean view. The grilled veggie sandwich was perfect and so were the crisp sweet potato fries and tart dill pickle wedge. We will be back !
Always good food and service.
Great food and service. The salmon tacos were cooked perfectly, an easy one to over cook. Martin took great care of us. Thanks, we'll be back
Outside on the patio the freeway traffic was loud. Inside the restaurant it was very quiet. The only thing I can think to recommend would be music. We were the only ones there initially and soft music would have been nice.
Martin our wait person was a 10.
The waffles took longer to prep so without asking he gave us a 10% discount
Even with all the remodeling still going on the
The food was excellent: great fish dish, nice vegetables obviously cooked fresh in a creative and tasty way for me; a good solid steak for my partner. Cocktails were good, but one was marred by being served in a chipped glass. The service was attentive and pleasant. Cozy dining by the fireplace made for a pleasant evening.
Austens is a true gem, a fitting companion for the Pierpont Inn which is well on the way to becoming the premier destination in Ventura. The setting is a garden spot with breathtaking views of the coastal strand and Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. The food is good with generous portions of a broad range of entrees.
Be careful going to this restaurant with someone with any mobility issues until it is completely remodeled. Would be a lovely place to go if you're staying at the hotel and when it's light out and you can enjoy The view.
The Pierpont Inn has been a favorite of mine for (are you ready?) 60+ years...a mandatory stop between my then home in Los Angeles, and school in the Bay Area. Over the years it has gone through several downturns and upsurges, one that it is experiencing today. Austins is still a work-in-progress at the moment, yet still a wonderful destination. Part of me wants it to achieve the success it deserves, another wishes it to be a hidden jewel and genuine bargain to boot.
Small restaurant, with a large patio. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was huge and delicious. Sea bass was creative and fabulous. I took half of it home and the leftovers were great. My husband's fillet was cooked to perfection. And we both loved our desserts: bread pudding and lava cake.
We have ordered Austen Burgers. Great quality meat, great house salad, crispy and tasty fries, very good tortilla soup. Since we dined at 3pm on Sunday, we had the whole place to ourselves. Enjoyed the quiet and fabulous ocean and island view.
Our server was wonderful that was the best part of our evening. You need to tell anyone who is scheduling a reservation that you do not have the restaurant open and that you will be sitting on an outdoor patio in November or in a hallway made into a dining room. Parking is not made for an older adult as we were bringing my 85 year old mother. All in all the server made this work although as the person who made the reservation I was extremely disappointed that you advertise knowing your restaurant is not open.
The city I found out after this closed the restaurant due to remodeling that was not approved.
You should make any holiday parties aware of your situation so they can make other plans.
very nice, good food, a little bit hard to find but worth the walk
Thanksgiving turkey dinners were cold and missing a menu item. No management anywhere to address the issue. Very disappointed and NOT recommended.
The ambiance is poor due to the temporary nature of the dining room. Management must resolve their differences with the City, and get this place back to what it was. Food excellent and server very hospitable.
We have dined for breakfast in the past and this time we did an Anniversary, pre-theater dinner with friends. We had a private table, with a view of the ocean, that they had reserved for us and it was a lovely night with a slight cooling breeze. Food was well presented and very good with ample portions. We brought a wine with and we were pleasantly surprised that a corkage was not charged. Service was good and overall we all agreed we will be back.
We went for my birthday we just went last month for my boyfriend's birthday it's one of our favorite restaurants!! Britney was our way server and she is/was amazing great service ...shes so sweet and on top of everything...we even gave her a piece of my birthday cake ...we love her shes the best !!
There was no one at the front desk when we arrived. We did see two different people who were not very friendly. One took one look at us and went in the back; the other asked us to PLEASE give them a few minutes and disappeared. As we were about to leave, the server came out with a bubbly attitude and was welcoming, so we stayed. She was wonderful and attentive. The food was very good. The location pleasant and view excellent.
If we weren't so hungry, we would have left after the first worker ignored us.
Pro: Excellent food and very good service. Con: Difficult to find on the property. There was no decor, it looked like a converted conference room.
