Excellent service by Angel. The food and the ambience made for a lovely lunch.
This place was way too overpriced for the service that we received. It got slightly better as the night went on, but it felt like a slap in the face honestly when a server didn't come by for over half an hour each time we tried to order food or drinks. Both steaks came out overdone, but we were so over how long it was taking, so we didn't ask them to fix it. Also, no one bussed three tables around us for a majority of our dinner that evening and there was a complete mess around us. It was a disgrace. Not to mention, after making a reservation, these people seated us on a completely slanted table in the middle of the patio. It was so slanted, you could BARELY put a drink on it. Service was just bad all around. As a local, I was very surprised to see this place had so many good reviews. If you want something close to a perfect dinner, this ain't it. You're better off choosing larsens or anywhere else to save the money. Trust me on this one before you are $150 in the hole. Really embarassing service. This place needs to do a self- evaluation if they really think they are on top of things there. It sucks cuz I wish I had another great place to go to, but now I gotta warn other locals to steer clear of this place. SMH
We loved that we came early & sat outside with an ocean view. The inside didn't seem warm (I mean the decor/ambience...still under construction?). The one negative is we didn't see any notification on the Austen's website to let us know they were serving a special Valentine's Day menu. The prices were very high/portions small. (But delicious!) We do plan to to again to try the regular menu.
The ambience and service was exquisite. All of the food was excellent with the exception of the dessert. The cheesecake was "spongy". I would however recommend this restaurant to my family and friends, and my wife and I will surely dine here again.
We were not sure what to expect, knowing that the restaurant at the Pierpont has had its ups and downs over the years. But we were pleasantly surprised. In spite of the construction taking place, the restaurant was warm and inviting and the food and service were excellent. We recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place for dinner in Ventura.
Great food!! Loved it.
Just wished the salad would have come after the starters and before dinner. So I took it home. Lighting was a little bright. Would have been nice to have some more mood lighting.
Other than that it was awesome!! Thank you.
It was our anniversary and there was no mention of it even though our reservation notes said we were coming in for our wedding anniversary.
I would definitely come back and enjoy the patio next time.
Austen's is a wonderful place with a beautiful setting. It is small but very cozy and comfortable. Our server, Denny, was fantastic. He was attentive, knowledgeable and personable. The food was very good, fresh and tasty but alittle overpriced. However I will definitely come here again.
Ambience and food were superb. However, we were the only people there for an early dinner, and service was very slow (why?) - my seared scallops and peruvian mashed potatoes arrived lukewarm. I had to send them back to get heated up. Afterwards, everything was delicious, from my meal to my husband's Caesar with salmon (very moist!), to the tomato basil soup with chunky tomatoes. Had a wonderful "Pierpont Cosmo." The view is beyond spectacular, and we were treated to a half hour of an ever-changing sunset. Very romantic and charming. Service needs to improve, though - I cannot understand why we had to wait so long for everything when we were the only people there... But we highly recommend, and will be back.
Pretty straightforward hotel food - very good wine list and full bar - in temp location with a view until remodel is complete perhaps in May if 2020
Did not know what to expect as it was our first time but pleasingly surprised.
Great food - easy atmosphere. Our family Christmas lunch was made easy and delicious. Great service too. We'll be back for sure!!
Enjoyed lunch out on the patio and had an AMAZING view! I had a burger and my friend had a Cobb salad. Food was good and nice sized portions.
First time here although we’ve lived nearby for 20 years! Was pleasantly surprised by food quality and value. We had breakfast, omelet very good and chilaquiles well prepared. There is a nice patio with lights that would be lovely at night in the summer. Inside dining room was small- maybe 10 tables? The entrance was confusing and a bit awkward. Could be more clearly marked to avoid entering a door right in front of diners. Though not any fault of restaurant, the freeway noise is very noticeable- and we were inside with doors closed. But again, not the restaurant’s fault but it does detract from ambience. Still a nice place for a meal:-)
The food and service were excellent. Dining room is a class act but still a very relaxed feel. Fillet Mignon was top notch. Would highly recommend.
No one told us this was merely a temporary location. We had been there several years before and it was very nice. This was a temporary facility no better than a café. food was not hot. wine was poor only thing that saved the evening was the waitress Maya who did her very best to make things right. Until they open the new restaurant they need to drop prices and tell people that it is a temporary restaurant for the convenience of their guests not a fine dinning facility. Wont go back until they open new place then its a "maybe". We have lots of fine restaurants here in Ventura. This is no longer one of them. Very disappointed. Called manager so far no call back so guess they don't care.
Excellent food, nice seating area outside. Need to be updated and maybe open a window to get the fresh air in.
Great outdoor seating area with an ocean view. Excellent food and service!
They are doing renovations so you have to walk around to the back to get to the restaurant, but IT WAS WORTH IT! The food was outstanding and the service congenial, efficient and comfortable. We definitely recommend it.
If you're looking for a very quiet location and great service this is the place to go!
And if you want non-sweet treat try the Creole Bread Pudding.
We went here expecting to have some delicious food and pleasant ambiance. The ambiance was there, but the staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and the food was mediocre. A little bummed since we were celebrating my wife's birthday.
Wonderful, relaxing, great view of the ocean...fabulous drinks!!
Sweet quiet spot for a tasty unhurried lunch, and view of the ocean!
It's on of the few places you can have a nice dinner and hear everyone at the table without yelling.
The food was well prepared. My wife had the Benedict Florentine and I had the traditional Eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfect, the Sauce was fantastic. Unfortunately the server was inattentive. We saw him once during the meal and had to wait for ten minutes or more after the table was cleared for our check. Forgivable if it was busy, but it was a quiet Sunday brunch with only a few tables occupied.
I can't believe that I have lived in Ventura for years and didn't know about this place. It's pricey but the food was great, it has a beautiful view and garden, and we were given a private room for our reservation of 6. It was perfect. I will definitely be coming again. The scallops were especially good.
We were looking for a place in Ventura for Father's Day, and this place came up on Yelp. The restaurant is located in an older hotel that is slightly rundown. The food was OK (one dish came out incorrectly twice), and the pancakes were a little rubbery. The service was decent (Pablo was very nice), but we lost him over the last 15 minutes for some unknown reason, and I had to ask for our check multiple times from different employees. The place was not horrible, but we probably won't go back again.
I love this place for breakfast.
after remodeling has finished it should be better and more accessible
Dissapointed that the Inn has not been restored to its former style and beautiful ambience that included Austen’s. Have enjoyed Austen’s and the Inn for over 50 years. It was the only place in town for a very nice breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The restaurant is in a temporary location during renovation.
Always a nice dining experience at Austen's; quiet, nice view, delicious meals.
Unless you are seated outside, there is absolutely NO VIEW from the dining room. The atmosphere is as bland as it gets. Service is friendly and attentive. The Eggs Benedict - well Chef needs to learn that this should be served with TOASTED English Muffin. The muffin was not toasted very well and was soggy. Hollandaise was good, but a tad too lemony and eggs were watery. Overall, would not return for breakfast based on the lack of view and the lackluster preparation of the Benedict. Sorry. Price was fair and service good, but the view and food were just not worth the drive.
Perfunctory service at best. Food marginally preferable to hunger. Building very old and could use a coat of paint and decent patio chairs. Hasn’t changed in 40 years.
Thanks for the birthday cake!
good service, and view
Angel and Jesus made my friends birthday breakfast the best it could be!
We enjoyed a delicious lunch with an ocean view. The grilled veggie sandwich was perfect and so were the crisp sweet potato fries and tart dill pickle wedge. We will be back !
Always good food and service.
Great food and service. The salmon tacos were cooked perfectly, an easy one to over cook. Martin took great care of us. Thanks, we'll be back
Outside on the patio the freeway traffic was loud. Inside the restaurant it was very quiet. The only thing I can think to recommend would be music. We were the only ones there initially and soft music would have been nice.
Martin our wait person was a 10.
Attentive.
The waffles took longer to prep so without asking he gave us a 10% discount
Even with all the remodeling still going on the
