Aurora Soho Ratings and Reviews
We choose to celebrate our sun's Birthday at Aurora based on Open Table reviews, menu and price list, we were shocked to see the the menu prices at the restaurant arr 20% higher then the one's presented in Open Table!! It was even more shocking that the manager response was simply: "we apologize for the inconvenience ". The pasta is good, and the wine list options are great.
The evening at Aurora started great. 15 minutes wait, although we had a reservation, but no big deal: we were very much looking forward to having dinner. Food was very good and solid (not exceptional), the wine chilled to perfect temperature. With that, heading for a 5-star review. Towards the end of the dinner, however, waiter and manager came nervously to our table three times, asking us to leave in more and more commanding voices, because of another group with a reservation. Given that we were waiting ourselves and just had a rather expensive dinner, tone and approach were, in our view, neither professional nor acceptable. Too many good reviews led to this attitude towards guests, one has to suspect.
I've been to this restaurant before and it has always been a favorite. Ambiance is perfect. Small bar in front and a small dining room in back. Happy Hour drink was a twist on a Negroni. Instead of gin and campari, it was campari and prosecco. Very good drink. Bartender friendly and a good mixologist.
Appetizers: The cheese plate is wonderful with two great jams/chutneys. Fritto Misto of seafood and veggies was cooked perfectly and not heavily breaded.
Entrees: Rigatoni Bolognese was fabulous; one of the best I've had. Pasta cooked perfectly. Two fish dinners as well that were large and delicious. Halibut and a whole Sea Bass.
We were at the bar for a long time and then at the table. They never tried to rush us which was delightful. Will definitely eat here again.
This place never disappoints. My wife and I had our post city hall reception here and have since returned several times. The service and food is always exceptional. I never skip an opportunity to dine here when in lower manhattan. They also have a Brooklyn location with a nice outdoor area.
I just enjoyed a birthday dinner with three of our adult children at Aurora Soho. We all absolutely loved this restaurant. I loved the rustic decor and cozy feel. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. We ordered several appetizers and every one of them was excellent. I especially loved the sea bream tartar which was a daily special. My two girls loved the pasta. There were several vegetarian options and the price was quite reasonable!
Have been there several times. Never disappointed . Food is outstanding ! Service is great. Even the decaf coffee is good. There's several dishes with truffles and mushrooms. They are favorites. Had Bronzino as well this time and it was cooked perfectly. Nice varied crowd. Kids, older people and in betweens. Only drawback is that the outdoor part is tiny and very close to the long line of traffic for the Holland tunnel. Indoors very cozy though.
Enjoyed our dinner at Aurora. Service and food were very good. Can't help but feel that the restaurant does not live up to its full potential. The location is great, the decor interesting but the restaurant was about half full on a Saturday night. Not a great energy. If you need a spot for a quiet dinner it would work very well.
Cozy ambiance for Brunch. It's great if you don't want to wait on a line. Make a reservation and you will be graciously and effortlessly seated. Had the duck and waffle, simply amazing. Duck was cooked to perfection and waffle was light and fluffy not an overwhelming dish.
The food was amazing! But ther service was awful. Our server was rude, unfriendly, forgetful and rushed us (even though the restaurant was empty). Not worth it, find somewhere for the same expensive price but with better quality service and a better experience.
I know there are 100s of Italian restaurants in NYC, but this is special. Both high-level and homey. Home-made fresh pasta, killer salads, great appetizers. We have had: octopus app, fennel salad, lamb chops, I paccheri (vegetarian pasta dish), and all were great.
While the food was really good, my party of 3 was less than impressed with the service. The tables were very close together and the hostess made no effort to move the tables to allow patrons to access the bench seating along the wall. This happened not only for us, but the other 3 parties that got seated around us. Patrons shouldn't have to move furniture to get to their seats.
Our server left a lot to be desired. We had questions about some of the ingredients in the dishes, so we asked her what they were, and how some of the dishes were prepared. She had trouble answering the questions and ended up not sounding very knowledgeable about the menu in general. I could understand that for a special, but these were regular menu items. And, at no point during the meal did she come over to our table to ask how things were or if we needed anything else.
We didn't let this detract from the food, but I'd definitely think twice about going there again given the less than average service that you expect at a NYC restaurant.
Our first visit to Aurora Soho, and what an unexpected surprise. Each of our appetizers, and our entrees were excellent, followed by a dessert that we shared. Wine list was a very expansive, mostly Italian wines, and we were able to find a very moderately priced, very drinkable red.
I realize this might sound like a 'fake' review, trust me, it's not, but food, service and ambiance were all excellent. Only little negative was tables were a bit snug.
Will definitely head back !!
