This is my favorite go-to restaurant in Sausalito. The manager, Caesar (sp?) always does a great job; he is cordial and helpful and makes us feel very welcome every time I go with friends.
Quiet restaurant, away from the busy downtown Sausalito. We loved our raviolis ( cheese and the chicken one). The two of us who took the pizza round them overbaked. Service was very friendly.
cute place. off the beaten path. popular locals place.
crab cakes were too mushy for me, too much filler
caprese wasn't with heirloom tomatoes and I like more basil -leaves versus sliced up
others had pasta dishes, and looked delish.
desserts were fantastic: chocolate tarte & bread pudding
What a great find, just far enough from the main part of town to be relaxed and far less expensive than he tourist traps. This place has the feel of a neghborhood favorite where most guests are probably regulars. Good food and friendly service. A keeper!
The food and service was perfect. Thanks for the great evening of dining!
Great local spot away from the touristas. Family warm feel.
What a pleasant surprise, the food was fantastic and the view was so nice eating outside and taking in the fresh air, I will come back and try the pasta next time
We've eaten at Aurora quite a few times and have never been disappointed. My only negative comment is wish they would stock up on Beck's non-alcoholic beer. On several dining occasions, they had none.
Awesome menu, awesome cozy spot, awesome service, Awesome flavor!!!!
Our server was wonderful and was very kind. He was very friendly and sweet. He went out of his way to make dinner nice for my daughter and I. It's a wonderful neighbor restaurant.
Great place, feels like you are at a local place (not on bay front strip). Our second time there, will go back. Outstanding food, great relaxing vibe, friendly service.
We have been going to Aurora for many years. Went for Valentine's Day. Food was OK, but has gotten pricey.
We had a lovely Valentine's Day dinner. We ordered more food than usual having the fried calamari apetizer and garlic french bread. My husband had the halibut and I had the salmon.
Both were excellent. The salmon literally melted in my mouth. Service was friendly but not obtrusive. We really enjoyed our meal and will return often.
I appreciated them being open over the holiday, but the food was mediocre at best. Service was fine with lots of good coordination between different servers, but most of us were quite unhappy with the food we ordered. Bland for some dishes, way too heavy sauces for others.... No one took home any leftovers as we knew we wouldn't want to dine on that food again. Big surprise as it is located in such a pretty spot. I'm hoping it was just an off day for them!
There seemed to be only one server and one person bussing. We were charged $38 for a steak that was so undercooked but it was very difficult to get their attention for even water so my husband sucked it up and ate it. My child's penne with a side of one sausage was $15. It was chaotic and overpriced and a real disappointment for a special evening.
Pizza overlooked could not eat crust
Vacation dinner, off the main strip in Sausalito. I hidden gem, incredible food without pretentious service. Loved the chicken Parmesan. Good wine selection as well.
This was a very enjoyable place for lunch with friends.
Good vegetarian options and tastefully done delicious dishes
We liked our sweet server but he kept forgetting to bring things. The veal Marsala was yummy but too much flour dredge, a little gooey. My Mom liked the Halibut and the Duck was excellent. Super nice staff and nice ambiance! Will go back.
Off the beaten path. Would never have found this restaurant had it not come up in Open Table. We had an early reservation on a Saturday night so when we arrived at 6pm, it was empty. By the time we finished, tables were filling up. Food and service were excellent and waiter -- whose name I do not remember -- was polite, courteous and very attentive. We will definitely return.
our experience was not good at all and normally I would be more specific, but this is a local place and I wish them well. Maybe we were there on a really bad night. I'd like to think so. I hope they improve and lower prices for plain pasta too ....sorry this review is not really helpful is it?
Visiting San Francisco last week and took a drive out to Sausalito decided to take in dinner
and was recommended Aurora restaurant.
Very pleasant visit - waiter was very friendly (unfortunately didn't get his name) he took time to tell us about the specials and spent a bit of time detailing other dishes on the menu.
All 5 adults went for a different meal and all 5 of us were very pleased with our choices.
Wine was excellent and complimented our meal choices very well.
Desert - Tiramisu was fantastic (home made) light and potent but really really delicious.
All staff attending our table were polite and friendly - thank you for a splendid night.
Well done to all keep up the good standards and would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We had 4 in our party for lunch on a rainy day. The host came outside to help us park, which was so sweet. Parking is impossible in this residential neighborhood, though there is a tiny parking lot right under the restaurant and it's really easy to drive past the parking entrance and not see it.
We had a window table with a great view. The ambiance was wonderful -- simple decorations, quiet so we could have a pleasant conversation, soft music.
The portions were HUGE!
Our appetizers: 1) fried calamari, 2) caprese (tomatos and mozzarella), and 3) rotolini di melanzane (slices roasted eggplant rolled and stuffed with gorgonzola cheese, pesto and walnuts -- heavenly, out of this world, I almost ordered an extra order to take home!). Entrees: 1) Eggplant parmigiana (so big we had to take some home), 2) Fettucine special with fresh seafood in white wine sauce (so big we had to take some home), 3) Linguine with fresh seafood, and 4) Risotto with fresh seafood. We were so stuffed we could not eat dessert, but the chocolate tart with walnut crust sounded so tempting! We will definitely go back.
Food was good. Calamari average. Arrabbiata was great. Lasagne good. Tiramisu ok. Time to get table was too long. Service was impersonal. Don't think I will go back.
The hubby and I had our date night here. I was disappointed when we arrived to find there was no seating available, despite our online reservation. We were told we could wait at the bar. The bartender never acknowledged us. But that wasn't a big deal, because we don't drink. We were seated after maybe 10 minutes. Our server was "ok". The restaurant was full and there appeared to only be 2 servers working. I must say the food was really good; well seasoned and prepared. That and the company of my husband is what saved this dining experience. I won't be making any special trips here again. too many other options with less distance to travel.
Simple food done well. We had the fettuccini alfredo with chicken and veal piccata. Both were cooked well. Nice atmosphere - not too crowded, not too noisy. Service was a little slow, but it may be because of staffing. Overall, great find!
Ceasar, the waiter at Aurora in Sausalito, welcomed us warmly, even though they were about to close...on Xmas Eve! We returned on Xmas Day. The food here is just incredible, we had the filet mignon with a wonderful wild mushroom sauce, and Halibut with a lightly creamy picatta/caper sauce. Large portions, and a lovely little pasta Bolognese comes with almost everything. Very attentive to my lactose-free ordering needs. They have amazing traditional Italian cuisine but also excellent non-Italian, as well as vegetarian, so this place can please everyone. Super friendly-yet-elegant staff, warm, upscale, lovely old-fashioned dining room, beautiful little patio, in a cute little quiet residential area, and just 2 miles from the main drag, Bridgeway, and all the hotels and shops. We received much more personalized service and better food here than any of the water-front places in Sausalito, but there's still a little sunset view! Can hardly wait to return!
The food and service at this cute and comfortable restaurant is truly exceptional. There is something on the menu to please any palate - and each item offers a true taste of Italy. I was blown away by the freshly made sauces and pasta - really delicious. And the main courses were great, as well. The wait staff take excellent care of you - without hovering or intruding. I felt they actually cared that I enjoyed my experience with them. I will be back when I am next in Sausalito.
We made a reservation for an early dinner before a concert. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, and in a while, we were the only ones there! We thought it was an odd combination of the hour (5:30) and the damp weather.
It couldn't have been the food or the service, because both were excellent. (You'd expect good service when you're the only ones in the place, right?) It's a charming neighborhood restaurant a little off the beaten path in Sausalito, so you're avoiding the harbor crowd. I had the lasagna, and it was perhaps the best I've ever had. The pasta was so light! The sauce was flavorful with just the right amount of cheese. The pear/spinach salad with the balsamic dressing was top notch, too. My wife's Caesar salad and Alfredo Fettucine with chicken were also perfect! We'll go back again next time we head in that direction.
Open Table came through by having Aurora on its list! What a great place to eat in saulsalito! The food
Was stellar And the service perfect!
We had a refreshing caprese salad that met expectations, and buttery ravioli dish that very much exceeded expectations. The other entire was lasagne, while perfectly cooked, and tasty, was satisfying but not remarkable. I worry about small places with expansive menus, but this one has a sweet spot. Stick to what they do best and you'll be pleased and enjoy your meal, we were and did!
The restaurant was cozy and the gluten free pizza was the best gf pizza my daughter and I have ever tasted. Great dinner.
First time I feel like Open Table rating was completely off. Service was incredibly slow even though it wasn't particularly busy at 2pm. It took over an hour to get our food and we ordered at the first opportunity! We were ignored several times when trying to get a server's attention and grunted at on at least two other occasions. We aren't demanding customers but do enjoy good service and food; Aurora's didn't deliver on either. Our salad special tasted like it had canned fruit - in the middle of summer; the pizza was a rather limp and bland pie that we all tried but none of us liked even the 19-year-old Italian young man who was with us; the carbonara was edible but, again, nothing you would want to order again. Very disappointing as I had been wanting to try Aurora's for some time but have no plans to return.
This restaurant had been recommended by our B &B The Gables. Very easy to get to and enjoyed our dinner. Friendly staff. I can't remember if they marked us as open table. I left them a message the next day. Just to be sure.
We live in Sausalito and Aurora is a great neighborhood find. It’s a place where you go to a few nights each week as the price for food & wine is reasonable. The location is cozy and if you’re friends, you’ll be able to hear each other in a conversation. We order the lamp chops & linguine with clams and was very satisfied with our dishes. It’s not a gourmet meal but definitely better than home cooking. If we order the lamp chops again, we would probably ask them to use less sauce. The linguine was cooked al dente, sauce was good, and there was lots of fresh good size clams. Service was great and quite attentive (always filling our waters and asking if we need anything). We will definitely be back and would recommend our friends.
food is consistently mediocre. $10 caesar salad looked to be a week old and came 20 mins after our other salad. i have been here a few times as it is near my relative's house. food is getting worse each time while prices go up.
Very limited menu, restaurant smelled really bad.
Wines were not good
Out of bread at an Italian restaurant at 6pm!!!
My husband's birthday happens to fall on Christmas and its a struggle to find restaurants open so that we can still have some semblance of a birthday meal for him. We love Sauslito, and spend a lot of our free time there, but hadn't tried Aurora before (we frequent Bar Bocce which is awesome every time!) and I was glad to find a place open that still had availability.
We arrived a little late because of holiday traffic on the GGB but were seated quickly.
Everything else took an excruciatingly long time after.
15 minutes before we received water and a greeting. An hour for appetizers, which were mediocre at best. Entrees showed up 2 hours into our time there.
My husband, who is a real trooper, never sends food back, had to send his pizza back because it was wet (seriously wet, like something spilled on it and they still served it).
Our server did ask what he would like in place of the wet pizza and miraculously showed up with pasta in a few short minutes(great, but why did everything else have an hour wait on it?!?).
We left disappointed and will not go back or recommend Aurora. I'm grateful to anyone willing to work on a holiday, but the food and inefficient service at Aurora will keep us far away.
