Menu and food was very good. We went here as a family and had plenty to choose from for dinner. The burger that I had was excellent! The appetizers were very good with nice portions to share. Drink and beer selection also met our expectation. We definitely would return for lunch or dinner.
The key to success was location. Located right on Penn and 10th this establishment is located 1 block from the Convention Center and near several hotel/resort chains. All the eateries on Penn pack them in nightly.
The fair is typical bar grub, most noted for their burgers. The burgers were cooked to order and spot on. Wings were just OK in my opinion. The wings could have had more spice built in and not having to rely on the sauce. Pretzel sticks were soft and served with plenty of cheese sauce. The beer was cold with several on tap to choose from. One night they had a micro brewed nut brown ale for $3 which was very good. One thing I found odd was they did not have chips and salsa. Maybe that's not a Pittsburgh thing but they did try and gave me homemade potato chips. Next time, I'll just pass.
Staff was hit or miss and it did not seem to coincide with how busy they were. Nobody was outright rude, but a friendly smile would be nice.
I dined solo at August Henry's after hearing about the restaurant from a friend who ordered the pierogi and kielbasa combo. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I observed several instances of staff going above and beyond to help customers, including myself. As I was leaving, I wanted to take another drink of ice water. The young lady who was clearing the table offered to see if there was a to-go cup. (There were many outdoor festivals going on that Saturday where hydration was important.) The onion rings were excellent (very much worth the $1 upcharge) and not greasy. The kielbasa/pierogi portion was so large I took half of it home. I would go back again.
Casual, Good food, great price for a bar/restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh
All was good. Bar fare apps and good sandwiches.
Very nice meal! Our server was very attentive. The sweet potato crusted chicken salad was delicious. Coffee was dreadful. 😩
we went for lunch. Salads were plentiful and yummy, chicken and waffles was delicious, excellent Bloody Mary.
Theatre downtown service was wonderful
Food, staff, and atmosphere is always excellent, been there many times, August Henry’s will always be our go to when we go into town
So delicious! We had an app, chicken and waffles and ribs. So much yummy food!
Great menu and terrific service
Overall I’m always pleased with the food and service. Although this past visit the hostess seemed to be a bit stressed and a little rude
Visiting for the Marathon weekend. Service was good based on a very busy night.
Service and food were exactly what we needed for a pre-theater light supper. Nice combination of theatre, sports, Happy Hour folks.
Solid mid-range dining experience. Good value for the money. Great place for dinner before an event, such a play at the Benedum.
Food was good. Service ok. A bit too noisy and open for me.
We try a new place every Saturday and heard good things about the Burgers
Delicious food, very large portions. Service was great. Our waitress was quick to answer questions about the menu and attend to all our needs.
Casual food and close to the cultural district. Very good service.
The food was excellent with great customer service! Music was a little loud but great atmosphere! We will definitely be back!
Server was efficient but not friendly at all. Could not believe when we received our bill that a Fat Gary's beer was $9. Ridiculous price. Very loud. Food was pretty good
Went here before going to the Brit Floyd show on 3/22. Got the half price zucchini app, which was awesome. Wife and i both got burgers. Both were delicious. The house chips kid of suck. Get something else. Hard to beat for the $$$. I like this place and will return. Service was great.
Food was delicious. I had the Cajun Shrimp Mac & Cheese, plus the loaded fries as an appetizer. Service wasn't the greatest, but they were extremely busy. It was also very noisy, but, again, it was very busy. So not the place for a quiet conversation, but a good place for yummy food.
Its a fun spot for happy hour. This happened to be a busy night so sometimes it was long for our server to reach us.
The burgers were very good! They did however run out of ribs however we were seated immediately after explaining we had reservations. The atmosphere was good but the venue looked like they just went through a rush of 1,000 people; dirty floors, tables not cleaned, etc... All-in-all the experience was okay, as we've seen worse, the appetizers and burgers were great (the mac 'n cheese was so-so) and the drinks were cold.
Great food. A little too noisy for my taste.
The person busing the tables was a little to quick to want to take things away. The table next to me was sharing a dessert. As soon as they put their forks down, even though they weren’t finished eating, he was right there attempting to take away the plate.
the food was wonderful and the staff was so nice .
we defiantly will be back.
Nice place to go when your going to a show in the cultural district and you don’t want to spend a ton of money. Burgers looked amazing and the potato chips were really good. Our Mac and cheese dishes were good. Nice variety of American food. Good happy hour prices too. Exactly what we needed for a family outing before the theater. Service was good and fast. They take reservations which was a huge plus.
The restaurant itself was a nice place. The staff was extremely friendly and gave really good service. The food for the most part was great but the burgers were disgusting. I got a regular cheese burger and I was really disappointed. The burger itself looked like something you would get from McDonald's and it was over-seasoned. If you go there I recommend anything but there burgers they are overpriced for the quality of meat.
Great service and food as we have experienced in the past.
Our server was amazing, everything else was just okay. My salmon wasn’t that warm by the time it got to the table. My husband’s wings were okay. I’m sure if we had bought burgers or the chicken sandwiches we would have been happier. But service made the experience better than it would have been otherwise.
I would go back for a little better-than-average bar food. Service was slow. I mean slow. A good 20+ minutes to order and another 30 minutes for the food to come out; and we just had sandwiches. The restaurant was only 1/2 full. Don't get the Long Island Iced Tea special - the bartender absolutely did not know the proper ratios as they were way too sour.
August Henry's is not trying to be something that it's not. It's a good place to get a good burger and typical bar food. The restaurant is spotless, the service is attentive and friendly, and the burgers rival other similar places that cost much more downtown. It's a good place to eat before or after attending an event in the Pittsburgh Cultural District, and it won't empty your wallet.
Great for dinner before the theater. Good food. Great service. Nice, unpretentious atmosphere. I highly recommend it.
Great night out! Excellent service, value, and food quality. Highly recommend
Great food. What wasn't cool was a 20% gratuity was added to our checks.
Great Pub! Great Service!
Really good food and exceptionallylarge portions. The waitstaff tries hard to satisfy. We've been here several times as a pre-theater stop, and we're always pleased with our dining experience. Reservations are recommended on a busy night in the Cultural District.
This is our favorite spot for dining before going to the theater. Always happy with the food choices and
servers are so friendly and excellent at their job.
Great service in a casual setting. Love the menu, especially the build your own burgers. This is our go-to place before the theater. It’s convenient to the Benedum Center and to parking. Great value for the price.
