Auden Bistro & Bar Ratings and Reviews
With a name like Auden, the bar has to be good. Or maybe not.
Skip the restaurant and have a drink in the magnificent adjoining bar area. Lots of cozy seats and a high ceiling. A great, atmospheric refuge the manic Columbus Circle crowds and traffic. You can order from a bar menu.
The restaurant has more choice but much less in the way of ambiance.
I had the onion soup, not bad, and the lemon sole, soggy and bland.
Our waiter kindly arranged for us to move to a table away from a trio of high-volume, pink cocktail-chugging young women gabbing on their cell phones about the virtues of pave wedding rings vs. traditional rocks. Why we were seated next to them in the first place is another question, because the dining room was pretty empty.
It only took two requests for our drinks to be served.
Always a sublime dining experience. If the food doesn't dazzle you, the staff surely will! Zaheer and his crew make every meal a special occasion. The fruit plate is almost too pretty to eat, however, the freshness makes it irresistible. Despite the plethora and variety of the menu items, the chef is willing to accommodate any special requests- vegan, gluten-free, low cal. I can't forget the fresh squeezed orange juice or the amazing smoothies. We make this a "must-visit" every time we go to NYC. The location can't be beaten. Inside the luxurious Ritz Carlton at Central Park, Auden is our first stop before walking off the meal in the park just across the street. After endless refills of the best coffee, we always have plenty of energy.
We visit Auden whether we stay at the Ritz or not. The food is delish! We LOVE breakfast there before a nice walk in Central Park just across the street. Our favorite is the eggs benedict, the egg white omelete and fresh squeezed juices. I tried a new menu item, the turkey muffin - fantastic! The fruit plate is terrific year round. The portions are perfect. The main draw for our visit though is the outstanding service! Zaheer, our server, is like an old family friend. He recognizes us and makes us feel at home. All the staff is superb and extremely accommodating. Our coffee cups are never empty.
Since my last time there menu options and portion size shrunk while prices stayed the same. Would greatly benefit from a price-fixe business lunch option to attract more local business and not be just a hotel coffee shop. Lovely quiet setting.
The Bistro is casual in atmosphere, but high end in gastronomic delights. I had the scallops in a saffron and fresh tomato sauce over capellini and it was absolutely delicious! My husband had the NY Strip. He had ordered it very rare, and it unfortunately came to him well done. He sent it back and they made him a new steak that was cooked to perfection. They were apologetic and very accommodating. The prices are not small, so I would recommend that it be saved for special occasions.
The food was ok but for this kind of hotel I would expect a better service. The side dish came about 10 minutes after the entree, we had to remind the waiter about our drink, there were so many tealeaves in the tea that it turned bitter after two minutes.
Our reservation was for 5.30pm so there was no crowd but the service was slow.
Not what I would expect from a Ritz Carlton.
I love this place. Quiet easy hotel restaurant with really good food and service. I can't rate it outstanding because that would put it on par with NYC's best restaurants and it isn't, but the food was great three nights in a row across salmon, ribs, salads, burgers and veggies. Definitely worth a try!
Our anniversary dinner at Auden was spectacular! We were greeted by Crystal, who had made note of our names & that it was our 34th anniversary. She recommended the skirt steak and peach melba as well as the mussels,& they were excellent!
We were VERY happy to have chosen this restaurant! The complimentary champagne toast and "happy Anniversary" in chocolate were beautiful touches. Thank you, everyone at Auden!
No matter where we stay in Manhattan, we always visit Auden Bistro at the Ritz Carlton at Central Park. The menu is superb although I always seem to stick to my favorite the BALT breakfast sandwich. Bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and fried egg on sourdough toast with an exquisite lemon aioli dressing. My fiance craves the eggs benedict 365 days a year. We start with the fruit plate which is abundant with fresh melons and berries. The portions are above average and we typically have difficulty finishing. Fresh fruit juices and a bottomless cup of coffee leave us satisfied until dinner. Our favorite server is Zaheer. He is like family. Kind, attentive and intuitive - he knows all of our preferences and always makes our visit special. Each member of the staff is extraordinarily accommodating. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed. While others stand in ridiculously long lines for the hustle and bustle of a crowded Sarabeth's next door, we'll remain faithful to Auden!
It's very difficult to dislike a meal in such supremely sumptuous surroundings. The Ritz Carlton never disappoints with decor and ambiance... but, the food was less than stellar. Ridiculously over spiced sausage pizza, a bland sweet potato and pumpkin soup, and a so called lobster and caviar roll, which was soaked in mayonnaise and slopped on an old moldy brioche. Completely overpriced, and unappetizing.
There was a mistake on the food order provided. This happened during restaurant week. I would have preferred the owner and/or manager to apologize to the customer if mistakes like that happen. I ended up waiting for a few more minutes before my salmon arrived. Thankfully the appetizer and bread sustained me for a bit.
It's our tradition to go to Auden for restaurants week and enjoy the prix fix menu. We arrived and were told that they changed it this year and didn't offer it on Sunday's. They were super kind and helpful. We were disappointed and decided to go somewhere else. They offered suggestions and helped us find a new spot. It was amazing. So even though we didn't stay for the food the experience was awesome. Thank you!
Auden Bistro was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! The service was impeccable, and the food was beyond exceptional. I had the Auden burger, hands down was one of the best burger's I ever had! I would definitely recommend this restaurant! You will not be disappointed.
Auden is located in the Ritz Carlton so the ambience is great. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was average and didn't quite live up to the description or expectations matching the prices. Ordered the quinoa salad with pesto shrimp and the shrimp was tough and over cooked like it had been cooked a while ago and with shrimp, this is unforgivable. Ironically, the highlight of the meal was the side of chorizo mac and cheese which had a wonderful flavor. With all of the great restaurants in NYC, I think Auden could step up its game and not merely ride on the coattails of being co-located with Ritz Carlton with mediocrity.
Came in for lunch with a hankering for a burger. It did not disappoint! Medium rare smothered with Porcelli mushrooms, sautéed onions and cheese. Instead of fries I had the Gouda cream spinach was rich, so I couldn't have much of it, but delicious! Service is always exceptional.
Overpriced mediocre food. The jam jar they put on our table was already open (previously used). They forgot to bring us the toast that are part of the meals we ordered, we had to remind them. One server was rude about the green tea I ordered but most staff were nice. they have to be nice because they automatically added service charge on our bill.
I expected a view of Central Park, but Auden was on the other side of the hotel. My appetizer, tomato soup, was ordinary -- like good, pureed plain tomatoes. The entrée choices were disappointing: a burger; chicken, spinach & egg flat bread; lobster cobb salad. The cobb had very little dressing and lobster. Lobster was masked by the bleu cheese. Very disappointing. But the dessert, a mixed berry cobbler, was something to write home about, with a crunchy top and rich, not-too-sweet berry filling. Finally, something good in this meal.
Four of us (2 adults, 2 kids) went for restaurant week dinner. Service was excellent and food was good quality with very good portions. The restaurant is inside the Ritz Carlton and has a very nice ambiance.
We ordered from the restaurant week menu for the kids because the kid's menu prices were ridiculous ($28 for Mac&Cheese, $10 for kid's desert).
