About Auberge du Pommier
The original jewel in the Oliver & Bonacini crown and a North Toronto icon, Auberge du Pommier has been serving guests since 1987. Constructed around the rustic vestiges of two 1860’s woodcutters’ cottages, Auberge du Pommier combines country charm with contemporary sophistication and style. Featuring wood burning fireplaces in winter and lush, floral terraces in summer, it is a welcoming, refined retreat from the city.
Led by Executive Chef John Horne and Chef de Cuisine Malcolm Campbell, Auberge du Pommier is defining contemporary French cooking in Canada. The cuisine honours both the refined techniques and rustic styles of classic French fare, with an innovative North American accent.

Positives - Vension, Lamb, cooked perfectly. Deserts were beautiful.
Negatives - Cocktails very mediocre, Appetizers oddly over spiced, esp. scallops.
Decor was only so so. French restaurant, had a very grecian / roman feel. I was expecting slightly more cozy / cottage farm house feel. Seats were good, very bright restaurant, good for people watching, not very romantic.
Cost - Roughly appropriate for fine dining establishment.
Service - Was excellent.
Auberge du Pommier had decent food but nothing was spectacular for the price point. I am glad that we tried it and it was a nice atmosphere something more upscale in Toronto but I wouldn't necessarily return as there are other restaurants in downtown Toronto that I think have better food and are much more accessible.
We were a group of 7, who give this restaurant 7 thumbs down. It was a gong show, from inattentive service to food that had to be sent back and reheated, to treating the vegan and vegetarian in the group as after-thoughts in terms of flavour and satiating food. We spend over $800, and left bummed out.
My favorite restaurant in Toronto. When it comes to special occasions, it is always my first thought. The food and wine were very good, the service was attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere was lovely. I am definitely will be going again.
You can't beat the ambience and the interior space of the restaurant. Best in Toronto. Without that, I don't think the restaurant would be nearly as popular. The food is for the most part lacking in taste whenever I've been there in the past couple of years. Presentation is OK but the actual dishes are not as good as they should be for the price. The only thing among appetizers and mains that anyone of our group of four thought was great was the Trout. Even the side order of vegetables was a sad affair. On the brighter side, the opera cake was absolutely delicious. Congrats to the pastry chef. Sorry to sound so critical but its sincere and I've heard the same thing from other friends. Nevertheless, the surroundings can't be beat and I would still go to Auberge for a romantic evening, the wine list and the unbeatable ambience. BTW, lunch always seems to be better than dinner.
There were crumbs on my seat. Service was bad. A waitress dropped a wine cork onto me from the counter next to our table and didn't apologise. Food was just ok. Very tough duck. You can easily get better French food in any road side bistro in France and it'll be way cheaper than that.
We went to Auberge du Pommier to celebrate a birthday. We've been to the restaurant many times before so we knew the quality of food and service would be excellent. As always, you can order anything from the menu and know it will be delicious. We were not disappointed. The food and service were top quality.
Have never been disappointed with the food and ambiance and was impressed as ever on our most recent visit. The cuisine and presentation really is top-notch. However we did prefer when the service was provided by one waiter (with perhaps a different one bringing the bread/water) and a sommelier rather than many different servers -- we counted five. It kind of lessens your connection to the meal in our opinion.
I don't generally go in for high-end places, due to the high-end prices. The atmosphere is what I would call Vintage Classy. It's elegant and yet subtle. The menu is limited, but they do each item very well. You could spend a lot and not be satiated, but overall it's a great place for special occasions. Those that appreciate the level of service will be pleased.
I have been going to Auberge for 18 years. It is usually very good French dare. This evenings dinner was awful. Over cooked scallops, butter poached halibut was cooked to perfection but was paired with a spaetzle that tastes like alphagetti. Neither of us finished and the waiter looked at the plates and did not ask why the meal was left on the plate. Unacceptable at $40-50 per entree.
First time dining here for lunch. We were on a tight schedule and our waiter Chad was excellent in getting the food out to us with impeccable timing. Mimosas weren't on the menu either but they accommodated our request anyway! Very delicious food and the venue itself is stunning. Would love to come back for dinner next time around!
My second time dining at this restaurant. First time was 8 years ago for a small wedding for one of my best friends. Great atmosphere, great garden outside to be enjoyed during the summer. And over all great service and food. This time around we came for my girl friend's birthday with family and friends and enjoyed another fabulous night.
We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine parings. We loved every item and the parings truly did compliment the food. The staff even cooked my Venison more medium well than the normal medium rare. It was very juicy but well cooked.
A fancy dessert with a personal message on it topped off our meal - very thoughtful staff.
The service was just the right amount of attention and very well paced.
The food was exceptional as was the service we received. Our server was attentive, professional and extremely personable. The meals were described to us very well. Though conversation the server discovered the reason for our visiting, it was our Wedding Anniversary, without our knowledge a young man attended to our table with two glasses of champagne and congratulated us on our anniversary from all the staff at the Auberge and wished us many more happy years. This gesture was certainly a topic of discussion on the drive home. On a special day the staff made us feel special.
We have been going to the Auberge for many years and up to now the food has been exceptional. The appetizer was John Dory fish which was slightly overcooked which made it a touch rubbery. Also a bit short on flavour. The main was plaice and it was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately it was truly tiny so virtually no meat and it was not deboned. I asked up front and the waiter told me it came deboned. The vegetables had been roasted on an open flame and tasted heavily of charcoal or they added smoke flavouring plus over salted. The potatoes were cold. The other main was halibut and that meal was excellent. Service was good except for not correctly know how the fish was served. Good advice on the wine. Cheese course was very good. Given the prices I am always annoyed that they are too cheap to give out Opentable points. If this food is the new norm we will not be returning.
