Auberge du Pommier
Led by Executive Chef John Horne and Chef de Cuisine Malcolm Campbell, Auberge du Pommier is defining contemporary French cooking in Canada. The cuisine honours both the refined techniques and rustic styles of classic French fare, with an innovative North American accent.
Auberge du Pommier is routinely ranked among Joanne Kates’ Top 100 Restaurants, and was awarded a five-star rating by Toronto Life magazine in 2016.
This place worth the moment you will enjoy! A good company will make it even better. Excellent food and ambience. You will love it
This is among my list of favourite restaurants (I’ve a long list) and I usually enjoy both the food, the ambience, and the service. Unfortunately this last visit the service was off the mark. The arrival of a former Ontario politico, seated next to our tabled, distracted our server as she became very attentive to that table despite them haveng arrived after our placing our drink requests. After a possible 15 minutes she returned to take our dinner orders.
Really not certain what to make of this scenario. Thankfully my guests were close friends, also fans of Auberge and great conversationalists, but they too were struck by this situation as it was atypical for our collective experience with the service here.
Hopefully this was a one-off.
Great place! Great people! Best French cuisine in Canada ever!
As usual, Auberge du Pommier served a fantastic meal. The server was a little casual with our table, but otherwise everything was exactly what you would expect!
The food is always 100% on Point st Auberge's. The service is wonderful. I continue to go as I am never disappointed.
One of our favourite restaurants in Toronto!
Celebrated my wife’s birthday here and we really enjoyed the food, service and subtle details like reserving my preference on seating area and plate decoration/customization for her birthday. Server was knowledgeable as we had many questions of which all were answered elegantly. Merci beaucoup!
Wonderful ambience in a century cottage. There is a wood stove burning which really adds to the upscale atmosphere of the venue. The plates are creatively displayed and the waiters describe the ingredients to you with the delivery of each dish.
We had the tasting menu and it was fantastic. Well worth the money.
The eighth annual new year lunch with a friend. We love going when it’s quiet in front of the fireplace. The lunch was very good: an omelet and the mussels (fabululously delicious sauce) and favourite whites. The service is always impeccable but this year our waitress was really lovely. Always a pleasure here.
Amazing food! The cook is a real artist!! My favorite pairing with wine was the Consommé de Canard! But the main course with Lamb and Cerf as well as the Paris-Brest were awesome too.
I had an amazing waiter and he made the evening bare able. I left that evening on New Year's Eve And cooked something because I was still hungry and I felt it was over priced for what food I received on my plate. The food was so full of butter and sauces that I couldn't really taste the food my venison filet was black on the outside, I ordered rare ang could only eat the middle my scallops we just cooked on one side but never turned over in the pan to cook the other side so raw. It was very disappointed for the price and the caliber of restaurant this place is.
New Year’s Eve date night with my wife. Absolutely exquisite dining experience. The food was none other than spectacular
Appetizer (seared scallops) was done very well. Main was somewhat mediocre: beans did not pair well with monkfish and tortellini was not expected on the dish. Fish was cooked and seasoned well, however, components of the dish did not work well together. Dessert was the highlight of our meal. We had the pistachio matcha soufflé and the creme brûlée. Both had outstanding presentation, creative tastes and unique textures using local ingredients. We would come back just for the dessert! Overall, a good experience at the restaurant, however, half of what you are paying is definitely for the service and ambiance.
Great for atmosphere and comfort- really poor for details related to service and food. Such a shame, as I was really hoping for expert plate compositions. There were a few highlights like the composed salad and the duck. The bouillabaisse was compositionally depressing, the warm vegetables with all of the main courses were stringy and flavourless, and the chocolate dessert really sad - with no chocolate aroma. We were told that the sommelier would offer wine suggestions- but never showed up.
The food is still within my expectation but the service is a little disappointed. We attended the brunch event on Dec 23; we mentioned to the server that my daughter has severe dairy and nut allergies, but the appetizer, the green salad came with cheese. My wife noticed and told the server again, otherwise we will have to dine in hospital.
The environment is acceptable although a little hot since we are sitting near the fireplace. Noise level is a little high because of a big group of 12 next to us. Anyway the experience is not as good as before.
Loved the food, service, and atmosphere. Portions and flavours were satisfying. Noise levels were low so we could enjoy the conversation around the table. Very special experience that I hope to repeat soon!
Nice setting and service. The food was disappointing. Complete lack of flavour, which clearly reduces the value.
The service was unbelievably great! Extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. 5 stars! I must come more often!
We come here every year to celebrate our anniversary. Great place, food and service.
This was my annual Xmas lunch with my grandchildren home from university for the holidays...our waiter, I apologise I do not remember his name, was great, the food was everyone's pleasure, another great memory made.
Had a fantastic time at auberge du Pommier as usual. Keep going back because the food and staff are so great. It is expensive, but overall a great dining experience.
Being a big fan of the restaurant for the past 10+ years (look at my previous 5 stars reviews over the years), I hate to write a bad review but my experience this time is very disappointing - my previous visits always gave me surprises; food (the creativity and different impact to my palate), the good ambience and service (some of the servers are amazing), or both - smiles on my face from the moment I stepped in the restaurant till hours after my meals, and I can always remember my every visits - that's why Auberge du Pommier had been my go-to place for all my important celebrations. This time I feel it suffered the same problems like any other busy restaurant during the holiday season - average service from our server (don't feel the passion like before, lack of the "personal touch"; food just dropped off to our table without even describing the plates; don't get me wrong, he is attentive like servers from any average restaurant but... that's exactly the problem, average), food is great but not outstanding (not impactful like my previous visits; main dishes still taste very good, a little disappointed on the dessert - it used to be so good that it even overtook the mains at one point and I felt like I can come in just for the dessert). Maybe it's just me but things were so perfect (and most importantly, consistent over the years) but now it's sad to see this is off the top spot of my list. I may still recommend people to come because of the good food, but I would strongly advise not to come during holiday season/special occasions when the restaurant is busy.
Our favorite place to start Christmas celebrations!! A great tradition continues!!
Auberge is the location of our annual Christmas Dinner. Auberge has and continues to offer great quality, consistent and knowledgeable service and inviting atmosphere. There are only a few minor tweaks which could have made my experience better. This year, the festive decorations were even more sparse than in past years - kitsch is not necessary, but a few tangerines, red berries or pomegranates would have been nice. Also, although we enjoyed the Spanish theme tasting menu, since we were there for Xmas a little traditional menu would have been appreciated. We will definitely be back throughout the year, but of course it will remain our Christmas destination.
We had a great time at the restaurant, will go back again.
Amazing service, great food, a little expensive. My girlfriend and I went as a celebration for the holiday season and we had a great experience. The staff were very kind and accommodating, and it is a spot you can dress up very fancy or business casual.
The food, ambience and service were all exceptional. My steak tartare was one of the best I've had. Also the 'chocolate' dessert was simple, yet complex and just a pure flavour explosion. It is pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
The tasting menu was fantastic and we got to try a few "new" things that i have never eaten before. Deni (spelling?) made our visit the best it could possibly be - for an upscale restaurant he was just the right mix of casual yet professional. We had a great time laughing with him and he made the already fantastic food even more memorable. A mere nod to the centerpiece got us a little one to take home which was a sweet surprise from their staff. One of my favorite places and has been for a long time!
Impeccable service and elegant atmosphere. The food was outstanding (monk fish and scallops melted in your mouth, lamb was done to perfection) and flavours were intricate and popped with delicious surprises. Bouillabaisse reminded me of eating it in southern France. Appreciated being able to have red wine by the glass for the person eating lamb while the rest of the group indulged in a bottle of white Bordeaux. Pricey but well worth it. Celebrated a special occasion and everything was perfection.
Visited Auberge for Christmas lunch with colleagues. My colleagues were first time visitors and I got lots of praise for choosing Auberge. Food was excellent. I do vote for #1 tartare steak in the city. Service is outstanding as usual. Deserts are creative, surprising, and unusual. I’m always coming back anyway ...
Always a pleasure at Auberge.
Be ready for rich foods, but always amazing cuisine.
One of the few excellent restaurants in Toronto which is not "precious". Just friendly very good service. There is no loud music blaring, which is great for comfortable business and personal conversation. The tables are well spaced so that privacy is preserved. The good-quality food is imaginatively prepared and presented. The table size for two is spacious, well appointed and firm. The seating is comfortable without being overly soft. Desserts may have well-known names (e.g. peach melba) but are delightfully unique. Wine by the glass (6oz) was not excessively priced. All-in-all this was a great lunch experience, not my first, at Auberge!
Ladies annual Christmas luncheon
The best service! I have come here a few times now for lunch and each meal was wonderful and each server was incredible.
Had a great time. The service was outstanding and food was prepared excellently.
Brunch was a delight! Auberge never seems to lose it’s charm. Our seating was perfect and the three courses were each delicious. Congrats to the chef and kitchen staff!
Amazing experience with head chef Malcolm! Food and service is top notch.
Excellent as always. Appetizer excellent. Entree very good. Dessert good. Service was perfect.
