I met two friends here for lunch. They had never been and I like the restaurant and wanted to introduce it to them.
We were the only clients in the place. Our lunch took so long to be delivered- I kept wondering why. When we received our steak frites two out of the three steaks were almost
raw and after waiting so long! Plus I ordered mine medium well and my friend ordered hers medium.
By the time we got our food back - we were kind of over it.
I always try to be understanding if a restaurant is busy but there was really no excuse.
I was very disappointed for my friend and myself.
We had been to Au Revior before and always loved it. Tonight we were six people with a 5:30 reservation. We were seated immediately as there was only one other party there. I told the waitress immediately that we had an 8:00 curtain. I also discussed vegetarian options with her. She was not very familiar with the dinner menu as she usually worked lunch. She spoke to the chef and they agreed that they could make something with no mushrooms. Perfect. We ordered our drinks and our food. One drink came with a glass with lipstick on it. That was quickly corrected. Our appetizers came in a reasonable timeframe. And then we sat and sat and waited and waited. By now others had been seated and everyone around us was getting their food. I asked the waitress several times what the hang-up was. I reminded her we were on a schedule. An hour later the food came. The vegetarian dish was with mushrooms although we had specifically discussed no mushrooms. And one of our party never got his food. The waitress had neglected to turn it in. All in all it was a disaster of a meal. I will not be back.
We had a party of six. The service was excellent and attentive and the meals were delicious. What we found unusual was that for those of us that did not ordered appetizers/starters, we were served our entrees while the rest of the group were just starting on their appetizers/starters. They were served their entrees later on while some of the group had already finished their entrees. The restaurant should really let those who ordered appetizers/starters finish this course first and then serve all entrees at the same time.
The food was very good, especially the escargots, chicken and beef bourginon. Our server was VERY friendly and offered
tastes of wine to everyone who wanted just a glass. We will definitely return.
The service was friendly and just enough. They allowed us to relax , enjoy each other’s company and our meal. The experience reminded me of those lovely leisurely dinners in Provence. Just perfect!
A restaurant with excellent food and wine selection. A real place, casual setting sans pomp and snobbery.
Lovely place. Enjoyed a late lunch. Everything was perfect!
Food was really good. Even though there were only three tables including us, the waiter was not attentive at all and never even offer to refill water till we asked. Impressed with the meal but very disappointed with the service.
Best sea bass I have eaten in a long time. The risotto and diced asparagus which accompanied it was perfect.
This is an awesome spot, really great food, great service, and warmly welcomed us to
their venue. This one is a keeper for any occasion
Wonderful atmosphere and service. Food is always amazing here, can’t stop coming back.
First time here -- from the pate appetizer (with wonderful bread) to main dish (orange duck - so tender and juicy) to dessert (creme brulee) every dish was wonderful! Thoughtful and well-paced service and a good offering of wine and beer choices .
Always delicious and delicate food, my boyfriend who's familiar with French and has travelled much said it is very authentic. Great and helpful staff!
Delicious French cuisine in an absolutely charming space! The staff members were gracious and very attentive. Can't wait to go back!
Great service; Cecile is a French cuisine expert! Great wine recommendations as well!
Au Revoir is one of my ALLTIME favorite restaurants! Their food is delicious, especially their soups! You can't miss their lavender fries so try them as soon as you can. I love their salads, and yesterday I tried the ravioli and I'm so glad I did! This place is consistently outstanding!
Au Revoir is a lovely French Cafe located in the very cool section of San Diego - Hillcrest. I visited there for lunch with an elderly cousin (95!) and it was the perfect place. The atmosphere and music were subtly French, and the music was in the background so conversing was easy, even for a 95 year old. I ordered the Arugula salad and added Salmon. It was fresh and wonderful, the Arugula very crisp, as were the slices of prosciutto. The Salmon portion was plenty big enough for lunch and it was grilled to perfection. My cousin ordered the Trout Almondine, a very large portion of trout dressed with a sauce and lots of almonds. The side vegetables were the most beautiful shade of green - broccoli and string beans, both cooked just to the point of done, they still had a little crunch to them. The bread was served with a mustard-mayo combination but when we asked for butter they quickly obliged. Service was professional but friendly and I would highly recommend Au Revoir, plus they have a parking lot right out their door!
Lamb Chops were under cooked. I asked for them to be cooked longer, to a medium well, and they came out a little warmer but exactly the same medium rare color. They were very squishy and I prefer lamb chops with a little crispy outside.
Rich, delicious, fresh food!!!
Excellent food and service. Always a favorite when in San Diego
It’s hard to compare when I’m French and I eat French food in San Diego. Of course I might have higher expectation than a regular American Joe who knows nothing about French food since all they know are burgers! LOL. But overall it was good.
one of our favorite restaurants ..... noise level is so low, dinner conversations are possible
The brunch was unimpressive, no real French flavor or taste.
My savory crepe was luke warm at best, flavor was bland, but the house salad and dressing was great.
The plate had 6 pieces of little fruits, that was all.
My friend had the Mimosa which was served in a wine glass, while the guests at the other had their Mimosa in a champagne flute.
The dinner is much better, not impressed with the brunch
Food was great, service was very attentive and this neighborhood French restaurant is consistently good. Have been coming here for years.
Nice and tasty food
Celebrated Bastille Day and as always, great food and ambiance as well as service. Merci.
Noise level was greater than I would like but it was pride weekend.
Such a wonderful place. Good food. Good wine.
Amazing Norwegian crepe
Ordered the Escargot to start, some were cold some warm which was a turn off. We ordered the rack of lamb and the orange duck, Both were okay......boring not well seasoned and just meh. Overpriced and underwhelming to say the least. We will not be returning.
Au Revoir is a lovely restaurant with authentic French food. It was quiet, great service, and they have a small parking lot. Great location right in the middle of Hillcrest. I would definitely look forward to dining there again.
We've been coming here for some time. They have the best beef bourguignon in SD and they always have some delicious fish dishes as well. The wine list is very reasonable for the quality and you can't go wrong with their cheese plate or one of their deserts to finish of the meal. This is a casual environment with no pretentiousness. This is truly a neighborhood gem.
They always have the most innovative and delicious offerings! Their service is also excellent!
We loved the food. It was fantastic!
Thr whole mabience was very nice. Service was very good.
Overall, Au Revoir continues to satisfy in every way. From presentation & taste to service & setting, they knock it out of the park every time. If you haven’t yet stopped by, do so now and see what you’ve been missing.
I enjoyed the meal very much
Au Revoir is very under rated. They produce consistently excellent food. We went on Sunday for an early evening dinner with a party of 14. I split a plate of duck a la orange with my daughter that had a nice crisp skin and excellent orange flavor. I tasted a bite of the Sea Bass Provencal made with grouper that was one of the daily specials. It was fantastic. We had a couple of starters including a charcuterie platter that illustrates the consistency of this restaurant. And of course they served a classic of hanger steak that is a favorite in many French bistros.
Everything was prepared great. Came back a second time everything was just as good. Consistency is always hard. Nice job! Risotto was perfectly cooked. Not soupy and not a bunch of parm to fix it up. The poached pears with the blu cheese made for an amazing salad. Really nice job. Fish and steak cooked exactly to order temp.
Very nice waiter. The food was very well accompanied. Great recipes. Nicely cooked.
