About Permanently Closed - Au Midi Restaurant & Bistrot
This restaurant is permanently closed. For Muriel, cooking is more than a career; it is an ever-growing passion. Starting with a deep appreciation for the raw product and with unflinching attention to every detail, everything is done to create and present deceptively simple dishes. Open to every flavor, curious about new ideas, Muriel is constantly trying to refine her art. It is done with passion, deep knowledge and a humble attitude. Of course the flavors of Provence are often present in the dishes she prepares, but it is no surprise that many of these are also found in our area. Olive oil, garlic and artichoke, plus much of the produce are grown on this lovely Central coast. Muriel"s other tempting culinary creations are simply the result of her affinity for good food, no matter whence comes! With the husband greeting the customers and the wife feeding them, "Au Midi" is definitely a family restaurant. It is also a cosmopolitan place with a warm ambiance and a sunny soul!

Au Midi Restaurant & Bistrot - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This was arguably the best restaurant in Santa Cruz County. Everyone I know will be making trips to Monterey to eat at the new restaurant. We ate there three times in the past ten days because we knew Michel and Muriel wouldn't be there after October 28. Excellent cuisine, menu choices, service, and ambiance. The new restaurant will be bigger and I believe their fans will multiply quickly.
I took my wife there for her birthday. She is a foodie and we were both extremely pleased with our meals. The husband and wife owners are French and it shows in everything they do. We were, however, saddened when we heard that they are closing their current location to re-open in Monterey.
This is a gourmet restaurant that can stand against the best in the world. the menu is creative with delicate , yet intense, flavors .....
a rare combination . My fish was surrounded by a lemongrass cloud which was sublime. The salad, dessert, and even ice cream had unexpected pairings that make one's taste buds dance.
There is really no other restaurant in Santa Cruz/Aptos that cooks real French food. They use wonderfully fresh seasonal ingredients, so there are always new menu items. We have gone there twice now and the service and the food are outstanding. They have a great, reasonably priced wine list and they always have great pairing recommendations. In my view it's the best restaurant in the area, well worth the drive from Santa Cruz.
My first time, and it confirmed the stellar reputation I'd heard of Au Midi. Three of us and I sampled all the entrees. All superb - Magret du canard cooked suitable rare, moulles, and a tenderloin of pork. With a nice burgundian Pinot Noir to fit this variety. Even the enjoyment of talking with the proprietors - chef and service sides. I've already found an excuse to return next week and will look forward to trying the new location in Monterey when it is up and running. Well done Au Midi. Merci Muriel et Michel.
My warm vegetable salad was AMAZING, and my husband's scalloped potatoes were fantastic. My Halibut was ok, and my husband's filet mignon was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was just ok. My floating Island dessert was disappointing- a ball of flavorless fluff? Nice music playing, good service.
My wife and I have been frequenting Au Midi since it first opened. Mu is a superb chef of French provincial (provencal) cuisine, and Michel is a warm, knowledgeable host, who also is a jazz aficionado. In our opinion, Au Midi is, hands down, the best restaurant in Santa Cruz County, and a good value as well. The wine list is very short, but extremely well chosen for quality and value.
The food was spectacular. We took my mother here for her birthday and were not disappointed. I had the lemongrass ginger halibut and it was truly amazing. Super delicate, subtle and complex flavors with a richness that wash lush. Equally amazing was the filet mignon. The soup was unbelievable. Cream of Onion, complex and delightful. The waitor recommended excellent and affordable wine pairings. We were absolutely thrilled with the meal and the chef came out to greet and check with her diners in an effusive yet genuine manner that made us feel like she truly loves what she does. Thank you. We can taste it.
This was my first visit to AU Midi. The food was delicious and it's presentation was in the best French tradition. Portion size was small (I had the scallops) however, the small size of the meal allowed me to have a dessert which I rarely have room for after a main course in most restaurants. Without the goodie at the end I would have ended the meal hungry. In addition, extended delays between the courses interrupted the flow of the meal. The chef was not rushed because only a few other tables were active. I don't know what their problem was. We were at table about two hours. I will try them again.
