About Permanently Closed - Au Midi Restaurant & Bistrot
This restaurant is permanently closed. For Muriel, cooking is more than a career; it is an ever-growing passion. Starting with a deep appreciation for the raw product and with unflinching attention to every detail, everything is done to create and present deceptively simple dishes. Open to every flavor, curious about new ideas, Muriel is constantly trying to refine her art. It is done with passion, deep knowledge and a humble attitude. Of course the flavors of Provence are often present in the dishes she prepares, but it is no surprise that many of these are also found in our area. Olive oil, garlic and artichoke, plus much of the produce are grown on this lovely Central coast. Muriel"s other tempting culinary creations are simply the result of her affinity for good food, no matter whence comes! With the husband greeting the customers and the wife feeding them, "Au Midi" is definitely a family restaurant. It is also a cosmopolitan place with a warm ambiance and a sunny soul!

Au Midi Restaurant & Bistrot - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food . Michel is very friendly and helpful in choosing a good wine. The service was excellent. Although the restaurant was full , the noise level was very pleasant. conversation was easy and relaxed. great care was given to detail of flavor and content. The portions were perfect. The dessert was a little too sweet but delicious none the less.
The food was excellent, but the overall experience was disappointing, because I had planned to order specific items on the online menu for my wife and myself, but t there was a prix fixe menu that day, with only a choice between lamb and halibut, and a fixed appetizer and a dessert (Macaroons), which neither of us would have ordered because we are both on fairly strict diets. Moreover, the fixed price was $58, and the bill total (with tip) $161. They DID make
a special salad for my wife, to replace the prix fixe appetizer (crab remoulade), since she's allergic to shellfish, and my wife DID love the halibut, and I found the lamb tasty and delicate. But in the end, it was their choice, not mine, and cost me much more than planned. If they had called me after I made my reservation, to let me know that the menu would be so restricted, I would have gone somewhere else. In their favor, the waitress and owner were very pleasant. I just wished I had had the option to order what I wanted, and dine within my anticipated budget.
Excellent food and service. Portions could be a tad larger but everything we have tried on the menu is exquisite. The chef is a true artist. Service is always friendly and informative. The ambience is ordinary but this place is about the food. Once you take that first bit you are transported to a file Parisian restaurant.
The meal was good, we celebrated a birthday, and was led to believe we would get a complimentary desert, but we were charged for it, but it was fine because they presented it in a nice way. The service was great. Overall, a really nice restaurant with a great atmosphere, but was expecting just a little more.
I had not been to Au Midi for many years just by circumstance because it was very good back then. I had been hearing great things recently so I tried it again and was extremely impressed by the progress they have made. The menu is small, but every item looks inviting and each dish we ordered was superb. The cassoulet is clearly a house specialty and I highly recommend it. The foie gras was presented beautifully, and tasted even better. The restaurant has a traditional french provincial feel and is very comfortable. The wait staff was excellent. I will try to get back often.
Service lovely, food all excellent, Windy Oaks Pinot Noir at retail (!) price, my vegetarian friend was happy also. Never heard of it until a week ago, will definitely return. Location is not in one of those ugly strip malls despite description. Very welcoming in a gentle charming way.
I love going to Au Midi. It's like stepping into a nice cafe in France. The ambiance is nice with low lighting and lovely paintings adorning the walls. The service was excellent with the servers constantly checking on us and bringing everything promptly. The menu is a comfortable variety, not overwhelming and everything is delicious. The chef owner, Muriel, often comes out and greets you and that is a wonderful finish to a superb meal. Bon appétit!
Our meal was excellent as always. Although the Seabass with Chanterelle Risotto arrived with an unseasonal green-pea risotto garnished with a few shiitake mushrooms and definitely no chanterelles, it really was delicious. Au Midi makes the best Steamed Mussels entree I have had anywhere.
That Au Midi sits in an Aptos strip mall, next to a hot yoga studio, adds to the whole experience. A jewel of a place has been hidden right in front of us all. The staff assures that your experience transports you from your everyday cares, and the food is astoundingly good. It deserves to be savored. (Going there off-season, before the area again becomes crummy with rude visitors, is especially nice. )
We had not been here for quite awhile and decided to have dinner on a wet weekend evening.
We were pleasantly surprised as the food was delicious, ambiance was warm and cozy, and the service was very, if not, too attentive.
We will definitely go back sooner than not.
We love Au Midi. Everything we have ever eaten there has been delicious. In particular, the sauces are very well done, interesting and delicious. The other night, the standout was the broth from the mussels. One of the best we have ever tasted. The appetizer foie gras pate was beautifully presented, silky and perfect.
Au Midi is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. However, if I had one suggestion for the owners, it would be to turn up the heat a bit. I'm always cold there and end up eating with my coat on. This won't stop us from returning...the food is just too good.
As always, we had a really great meal at Au Midi. Muriel makes the best soups, and that night was serving my favorite, a creamy sweet onion soup. I ordered the sea bass with risotto with peas and mushrooms--a generous serving, done perfectly. My companion ordered the beef, which I tasted--it was incredibly tender and flavorful. We ordered French wine by the glass, and Michel suggested a red and a white that paired really well. Lovely meal!
We've been to Au Midi half a dozen times and loved it every time. They have excellent wine choices, and delicious menu items. The chef is so accommodating and everything she makes is excellent. We like to eat "early" at 6 or so, and so be warned that by 7, the restaurant is full, and it's noisy. Service is always excellent.
