Atwater's in The Herrington
Delicious food. Lovely ambiance, not too noisy even when it’s full. As a vegetarian, I would have liked more options.
This was a fantastic spot for a romantic dinner. The ambiance of the small dining room and the attentiveness of the staff led to a feeling of exclusivity that truly made for a great experience. In addition, the food was also well-prepared with great presentation. Worth the price.
Nice location and room. Food just a little above average. Expected to be wow’d a bit more for the price
I have lived in the area a long time and never knew about this hidden gem! With only 10 tables in the restaurant, you really feel like you are in a private dining room. The food and service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was quite cozy. I will definitely be going back for another special occasion! I'd love to see this place in the summer since french doors make up all the exterior walls.
Amazing staff made us feel special and welcomed. Food was fantastic! Great choice for our birthday celebration!
Excellent quality food, presented and served with the utmost attention to detail.
Our food was delicious and portions were nicely sized. Our waitress and server were very attentive. What we really appreciated the most was the quiet! We didn’t have to shout to be heard. What a pleasure! The view of the river was also a plus.
The reservation was a surprise for my parents’ 40th anniversary. The staff at The Herrington and Atwater’s assured me that they would make their dinner a memorable and special experience. They did not disappoint!! My parents were wowed by the personal touches added to their dining experience, complete with an anniversary card signed by the staff, a personal and romantic table, exceptional food that they stated was ‘out of this world’, and a quiet location so that they could have easy conversation during their meal. I am exceedingly grateful to all the staff, especially Angel, who made my parents feel as special during their stay as they are to us. Thank you!!!
Wonderful dinner. Service was outstanding....and wine recommendations were right on point!
This was our first time back since an unfortunate experience several years ago. We were drawn by Geneva Restaurant week, but the food was truly excellent and we will return.
Cozy setting! The food was absolutely amazing! The service was impeccable! We had a lovely evening- highly recommend.
We had the 3-course menu. Each course excellent (butternut squash bisque, dover sole, desserts). Service friendly and very efficient. Top marks!
We loved the Atwater. It is an elegant, inviting, comfortable, small restaurant. The fireplace adds to the ambiance. The food was fresh and delicious from the appetizer to the dessert. The presentation was beautiful and stimulating to make you eager for that first bite. The dishes were just the right amount of food. The servers were very attentive and my water glass was kept full throughout the evening. We will definitely eat here again!
If you enjoy Restaurant week in Geneva - Atwater’s is a must!!
Had a wonderful meal here while staying as guests at the hotel and celebrating my husband’s birthday. They even topped it off with a small dessert at the end of our meal.
The staff at Atwater’s was very accommodating to us. We showed up 45 minutes late for the reservation after oversleeping what we thought would be a short nap after a day of walking and shopping in the stores of quaint Downtown Geneva. Nevertheless, the staff was able to seat us after a short wait to prepare the table.
Our server, Brandon, was very attentive, and brought out salmon ceviche compliments of the chef, as well as a bread assortment that was delicious.
The crab cakes appetizer was a treat, with two large cakes that were perfectly sized and prepared. The filet mignon and blackened swordfish entrees were both delectable, as well.
A special shout out to Alexandra on the next morning’s breakfast for showing us how to fold the napkins! Overall, Atwater’s makes a stay at the Herrington Inn complete.
First time at Atwater’s. Nice little bar in the entry area. Dinning room is small and intimate. Service was professional and food exceptional.
Always a fine dining experience. Classic entrees, good wine list, attentive but not hovering service. Rare to find this level of consistency today.
Great atmosphere for our anniversary dinner! Bonus of an appetizer and dessert for us to sample. Both delicious!!
Service and food outstanding.
Pricey, but the food was excellent. You definitely get what you pay for. Very quaint and intimate setting.
Great... except for the singing chicken!
Perfect location to meet friends for lunch. Highly recommend it.
Server was gracious and allowed us to sit and visit for several hours. Did not feel rushed at all. Food was great and decorations beautiful! We were greeted with someone taking our coat and umbrella. Great experience!
Incredible food. Good sized portions for fine dining.
A perfect restaurant for Christmas dinner. Beautifully decorated and elegant. Service was excellent and the food was very good. Highly recommend!
Excellent food, service, and ambiance. Just a tad pricey.
Simple elegance. Very good food. The young servers are so sweet!
It was wonderful!!!! Coming back for our 13th wedding anniversary we couldn’t have had a better evening.
Our waitress was wonderful
Once again Atwater did not disappoint. Charming and lovely for a friends get together at lunch.
WOW! We could not have been more happy with our lunch at Atwater's!! It was a week before Christmas and we had a beautiful 50 degree day in IL. Four friends were meeting to celebrate a birthday and enjoy our annual White Elephant exchange. We were seated in the gazebo on the river!! If given the chance to host an intimate affair, this is the place to be! Taylor was an amazing waitress. The food was AMAZING (The Lobster Bisque was So delicious. The Chicken Crepes were a favorite. The Seafood Risotto was also a hit). We truly could not have asked for a more Special nor Memorable lunch! Thank You SO Much!!
Two of three on the reservation were an hour late as interstate 355 was closed down while we were driving on it.
We called Atwaters and they seated one guest and were absolutely fantastic to her and gracious to me and my other client once we arrived ....more than 10 stars for courtesy and professionalism.
We started with the cheese plate. Always wonderful!! Serves 4 generously.
One had the chicken stuffed crepe. Said it was ok. A “c”.
The other had the wild mushroom tartlet. Same a c.
I had the smoked turkey /bacon club which is always an a+.
Sometimes the entrees could be served a little hotter and more savory or bit more seasoning.
Always great are the scallops, crab cakes, beef burger, and sole. Breakfasts are very good.
This is a go to place for every Special occasion or holiday. The ambiance is wonderful. Book the gazabo for a lunch or dinner. Happy eating at a beautiful spot.
I had lunch with my girlfriend & we both had the Salmon Napoleon tower which was excellent. The tower was made up of mushroom risotto, sauteed spinach & salmon with a delightful sauce. We shared a chocolate ganache cake for dessert that was absolutely yummy. Our waiter was always smiling & attentive & gave us plenty of time as we had a lot to talk about. The room is wonderful with its many windows & fireplace. A little more light would have been nice for lunch as it was a gloomy day. We had a wonderful time.
Great for a romantic dinner, or with neighbors. Quiet enough to be able to hear others. Great food and ambiance.
We had dinner at Atwater’s on a busy night, with the Christmas walk going on in town. The food was excellent, the server was excellent, the ambiance was excellent.
We have dined there in the past and we will return in the future.
My most recent visit confirmed what I already knew to be true -- this is one of what I consider to be the top two restaurants in the Tri-cities area. The ambiance is perfect. We were seated near the fireplace on a cooler early winter day with a scenic view of the Fox River opposite us. I had perhaps the most favorable filet of Dover sole I have ever been served, and my restaurant experiences include visits to Michelin 3-star establishments. My companion had stuffed French toast that left her raving. Atwater;s at The Herrington Inn in Geneva, IL is a treat to be savored.
Excellent brunch, outstanding staff
I found the menu to be limited and the portions very small. I ordered the Barrumundi and left hungry. For the price the portions are very small.
I was there with a friend to celebrate my birthday and we were treated like royalty. They even gave me a free dessert.
