Attic Ratings and Reviews
Great cocktails, loved the tuna poke, brussel sprouts, sweet potato french fries with banana ketchup. The entrees were superb - filet mignon, scallops, chicken lollipops, crab and garlic noodles. And the service was excellent. So happy to have the Attic in our neighborhood.
The food was great, we ordered the lettuce wraps and the filet mignon with fried onions, and our server was super sweet. Great place for a date. The only bad thing was that there was a large party popping those little confetti poppers. They popped off like ten or so and they were so loud. It would have been nice if they did only one or two and finished the rest outside.
Extremely loud and hard to hear the person across from me, but I'd like to go when there aren't as many office holiday parties going on because I think it may be a quiet spot on most evenings. Great food and decent wine list, though I wish there was more crab on the crab fried rice.
Great place to order family style. We had: Tuna Poke - fresh, delicious, & spicy; Brussels sprouts - one of the best we've had; Chicken with Lettuce Cups & Korean Beef with Lettuce Cups - both great; Sizzling pork with Egg - nice flavors if you like pork; Adobo Chicken lollipops - A must get item; Grilled Edamame - much better than the boring boiled type.
Attic is a hidden gem. The food was delicious and the portion size was good. You get good value for the money. It's a pan-Asian tapas style restaurant that samples from all corners of Southeast Asia. A definite must for those who want to try out something different in downtown San Mateo.
Food and wine was very good. Server was very knowledgeable and helpful; however, the restaurant lacks certain basics such as they do not serve bottled water of any kind and they do not serve coffee of any kind. The food is served as it becomes ready so my friend's appetizer came first, then mine, then both main courses were ready before our appetizers were finished (as a result, mine was no longer hot when served). The was no effort to get the timing right. It felt rushed.
Main floor is where to bar area is, didn't spend time there but looks like it might be a good hang out.
The actual dining Area is upstairs (the attic),which is interesting. The view is only of the street and the century movie theatre across.
We were running late, but luckily our friends got there on time. They seated them and didn't give them any problems about not having the entire party there. They were fAst to get our drink order. Food came out pretty fast too. Portions were fine for me, but I tend to eat smaller meals compared to others. overall decent place, not sure if i would go again.
What I liked: butter fish seviche (small portion), garlic noodles with crab
The family-style eating at Attic was a wonderful surprise - it gave all 4 in my party the chance to try different dishes. We couldn't get enough of the Beef Salpicao, and even those who didn't care for mushrooms gobbled up the chicken and mushroom lettuce wraps. The sweet pea stir fry with tiger shrimp was a great touch of greens, and the garlic noodles with crabmeat was excellent as well. We topped it all off with the bread pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. The wait staff was attentive, but not hovering - one friend gave me kudos on my selection of restaurant, which was wonderful, since I had never been there before. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time, though!
OMG. This was the best pan-Asian food I've had since Slanted Door. Pork & shrimp cigarellos, filet mignon w/ crispy onions in soy w/ meyer lemon olive oil, scallops served on a bed of buttered corn, sauteed sweet pea greens, and my first Mangosteen cocktail, which was fantastic. Worth finding parking and climbing the stairs!
Food was very good. There's no air conditioning, so if it's a hot evening, try to get a table by the window. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Make sure to get a glass of Calamansi juice and don't forget to try the Rainbow Papaya Salad and the Adobo Chicken Lollipops.
