From the beginning I was worried. The menus were covered in stains. It took at least 15 minutes before we were greeted by our server. The food was cold but we couldn't complain because we never saw the server we until we asked for a check. The Cheeca Lodge and especially their restaurant and food needs great improvement. The potential is there but many changes need to be implemented.
Dress is "smart Casual" my husband and teenage sons wore collared shirts. The group of 8 next to us were in t shirts and bathing suit bottoms. The 2 women were in jean shorts and tank top shirts. They had guests stop at their table several times (quiet loud). There was a dog on a women's lap seated at a table 15 feet away in the beach bar section of the hotel. The dog would intermittently bark. I understand it's difficult in a resort to maintain certain dress code but if you can't provide a nice atmosphere you really need to adjust your prices. I would much rather paid the beach bar prices than the $310.00 I spent for the beach bar experience we had. The waitress was AMAZING! The food was good too! The atmosphere was horrendous.
We chose this restaurant for its location and food reputation. We had dined at the restaurant before. The location was fantastic but the food was very disappointing. And, based on the quality of the food, the value for the food wasn't acceptable. Our dinners had been under heating lamps. Our nephew's steak was very overdone. My fish was overdone and served cold at the table. We would return to the restaurant due to its location and view but not for the quality of the food.
The two stars is because we ate here twice in one day. The first experience was a lunchtime meal and was a pleasant one. Jean was out waiter and was super nice and helpful. The food was decent albeit a little pricey but that comes with resort territory. We'd made a reservation for dinner weeks prior to our stay and were excited. I really should've checked the YELP reviews beforehand. Everyone that mentions poor service and poor quality food is correct. The waiter was very careless, not bothering to correctly explain the specials. For instance, we ordered the soup of the day and the ceviche. Both were super spicy! We ended up returning the dish because of this but it could've been avoided. The meal went from bad to worse. We were served items such as truffle macaroni and cheese and looked and tasted like velveeta. The seafood pasta was literally noodles with some mussels and shrimp thrown into a watered down thin almost non existent sauce. Disgusting. Not to mention the waiter never came back to check on us. Horrible service at a supposed classy upscale restaurant. This place is pricey and it was little better than diner food. We were offered dessert and chose the lava cake. It came out ICE COLD with the middle "lava" being almost frozen. Mediocre apologies from the Manager were worth every little and the meal ended with a very dark cloud over the start of our trip. The GM of this restaurant should be ashamed.
Visit for yourself but beware that when guests talk about the poor service and food, it's not just empty complaints.
The waitstaff was excellent. The menu was a bit limited, but the food was very good. The outside dining was a bit loud next to the pool and bar area and people use the space in front of the tables as a walkway from the pool to the inside of the hotel, so there were a lot of a kids running back and forth. Kinda took the shine off. We've been coming to the Cheeca for over 25 years and this was the first time it didn't seem as nice. More of an upscale Disney feeling .
We were looking forward to a beautiful dinner at the highly recommended
Cheeca Lodge Hotel. We choose the Atlantic Edge for its quality menu and scenic view, but what we experienced was not quite what we expected in such a high level restaurant in a top rated resort. We were quickly seated in a half full restaurant and our bus boy brought over our water , we asked to see a drink menu and he said your server would bring it. Twenty-five minutes later we had not been acknowledged, there were two other wait staff next to us, but nobody serviced us. We wanted to leave, but then saw a manager and flagged him down. He applogized and sent a waitress over. She tried her best to get our drinks and food out fast, but still we waited. It was comical as we were waiting for our drinks to watch one of the bartenders stand at the end of the bar talking to his friend while we waited and waited, and then we they did arrive they were tasteless for the $12 they rob you with. Judging from the prices they dare charge for their menu, they need to upgrade their entire staff who seemed run down and outright slow for a half empty dining seating, although there were plenty of bus staff who probably could have been trained to take orders or deliver food. The manager seemed nice enough and was working hard all night where he was needed, but he needed to be more aware that many tables were not attended to. Overall the food was good, but clearly did NOT live up to the prices they charge. Filet Mignon is $50 bare in a plate, nothing else with it? It came out Overcooked, but who wants to send it back after waiting 90minutes to get it ?
Travel a few blocks away to Chef Michaels for a delightful night of dining and attentive quality service, and excellent food.
Went for Mother's Day Brunch. 11:30 reservation which is when brunch began. Unfortunately, restaurant was not ready for line of people with reservations. Very disorganized. Servers were slammed. It was hard to even get a refill of water. I have been here before and may return, but not for an event like this.
-What can possibly be said about the view except "breathtaking". We had a table for the two of us with the best view of the beach and it was so beautiful. The landscape is beautiful. The service was top notch and my spouse had a special swordfish on lobster mashed potatoes which was and A-plus. More vegetarian options would help, however, the chef made me a pasta dish that was just OK. Next time I'll add more veggies to my plate. Had broccoli which was fine. The staff here treated us like a king and a queen. They are so nice and genuine and want to be sure you have an excellent experience! I would recommend Cheeca Lodge and Atlantic's Edge.
We visited this restaurant for our 25th anniversary dinner. I called ahead to request a table with a view and was quickly accommodated by the hostess on the phone. She informed me that it was windy and an outdoor table might not be the best choice so we chose a window view table inside. When we arrived the wind had died down so we asked for an outside table and again our request was honored immediately. Our server, Killian, was prompt and attentive throughout the whole meal. She knew it was a special occasion and made sure we were happy with everything including the timing of our appetizer not being interrupted by our meal. We had the Tuna tower as an app, great for sushi lovers. I had the grilled Mahi and my wife had the seafood pasta. Both were delicious. It is a family resort property so expect there to be alot of families with small children running around. The view is spectacular.
We love Cheeca Lodge - and the view is wonderful. The waiter was great! But the food was just average - especially for a high end restaurant. The rolls were rock hard and had to be sent back. The cobia was fishy - everyone else had mahi and they said it was very good. We all had caesar salad - and we all had upset stomachs(needing immodium!) - we could only think it was the anchovies, they tasted like they had been soaked in vinegar - and it was the only thing we all ate. We were disappointed. The best part of the meal were the martinis!
This restaurant is located at the Cheeca Lodge which is a very lovely family friendly resort. The restaurant is a very nice setting - during the day it has a lovely water view. We were not staying at the Lodge. I had grilled cobia with succotash. The succotash was tasty the fish less so. It has a lemon butter sauce that I had on the side - which I am glad of as it wasn't very good. My husband had a steak which he likes - it was cooked just as he ordered it. The sides of mushrooms and baked potato were fine. a key lime tart for dessert wasn't very good.
Service was resort lax but nothing to complain about. Overall it was average. I have been to this restaurant for lunch. The view adds to the overall experience. I would go back for lunch - when there aren't so many families around - really really noisy with kids.
Had to send back a "medium" filet twice....and we're not "those" people....first time came out over well done, couldn't even cut it to the point the waitress said "oh that's way over" to the 2nd time came out still mooing....blood on plate, almost "pittsburgh"....here's a suggestion....if your having a wedding on premises and still want to take care of the restaurant customers with reservations, either have enough staff on hand or at least divide the chefs evenly enough so that someone knows how to cook the basic temperatures of a steak. Will never recommend to anyone ever again.
Food was amazing! Delicious yellow tail snapper and surf and turf was over the top. Chocolate peanut butter dessert was a great finish. Wine and beer list was excellent with half bottle wine options. View was the best. Perfect water view with beautiful moon view. No sunset view (Atlantic side) but beach is white sand with tall curved palm trees. Outstanding! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to the 15 minute wait before we saw a server. Otherwise, great experience.
Beautiful setting with spotty service. When my husband asked about a dessert the waiter told him to read the menu! Not what I expect from a pricey luxury restaurant. That said it's a lovely place to eat. The fried fish looked beautiful and stone crab appetizer was enough for dinner.
My husband and I found Atlantic's Edge on Open Table while in Islamorada and made a reservation for dinner. We found the atmosphere lively, and welcoming. We were seated outside as requested, weather was perfect for dining al fresco. Our Server Ben was very knowledgeable about the menu and was attentive without being overbearing. We had the seafood pasta and the daily catch, a coconut and almond crusted triple tail and both were outstanding. We found a reasonably priced Foley Pinot Noir that complemented our meals perfectly. Ben added a treat of chocolate covered peanut butter mousse to our bag with the leftovers from our entrees so we could still enjoy some dessert once we had some room to eat it! That was a sweet surprise to finish off an all around great night due to a wonderful dining experience. Next time in Islamorada we will try to get back to Atlantic's Edge.
Unfortunately had a very bad dining experience. Three out of 4 meals were awful. One was mediocre. Cesar salads bland, poor quality and poorly cooked steaks, undercooked lobster tail. Conch chowder was more like corn chowder...calamari tough and marinara like a can of tomato sauce. Very unpleasant experience and we had such high expectations. I hate to give bad reviews but this was an absolutely horrible meal.
We had Valentine's dinner here. It was a prix fix menu but it was wonderful. Four courses and the fresh snapper was outstanding. A little problem with the reservation but it was quickly solved. The cosmos were so delicious. Unfortunately no music for Valentines but the matre'd did bring a rose to each table for every lady.
