Atlantic Grill, Eastside Ratings and Reviews
A reliably good meal and good service. However despite always arriving on time (or early) the table is never ready and generally end up having a 15 -20 min wait. Although the servers are pleasant and professional the front of house team are not as efficient or friendly
We ordered simply grilled shrimp and scallops
I thought simply grilled meant just that big was I wrong. First bite I couldn't believe the amount of garlic in the dish. I called the waiter over and his response was it was simply grilled but in some sort of garlic sauce. ( I don't remember the exact description he gave) The shrimp were tiny too!!
I have eaten there for years and never had a bad meal until now
I have been to the Atlantic Grill quite often over the past years as I always appreciated their good and well prepared seafood meals and desserts. However, yesterday our expectations were disappointed. Both as far as the meal was concerned and the service. While the Tuna was excellent, my Atlantic swordfish was spongy in texture and too salty. The highlight in a negative way was the so called chocolate fondue. This dish has been on the menu for several years and I always enjoyed it vey much. However, yesterday we were served fruit on a plate and only after trying to wave down a waiter for fifteen minutes, we were served the missing chocolate sauce - in a stainless steel condiment cup. After my very confused looks at this presentation, the waitress took the dish back to serve the sauce in another strange container that had no likeliness with a fondue dish. I would not order it again and I do not know what the chef had in mind when changing the usual presentation of a chocolate fondue. After all this is not a diner.
Although our server aimed to provide a good service and gave good wine recommendations, he repeatedly disappeared for lengths of times leaving us stranded. I am not sure if this was an off night or the current approach of a new management. Won't be back in a while - there are more consistent options in the neighborhood.
They gave one of the tables they have added but very bad located.
They also recommended a white wine which were not available in their cellars. The main course (fish) arrived before the starters (oysters).
Fish was overkooked. White bread we asked never arrived. A total disaster!!
Went there and did the lunch pre fixe at $29 a head. Was a decent value for Manhattan. Fish was fresh. Preparation was okay. Restaurant itself was a decent looking place and is good for people who are looking for a nice atmosphere. However in terms of food and value I would say that one can get much better food for half the price at ethnic places, though the ambiance, etc., would be poor obviously.
I try to eat at the Atlantic Grill when I'm in Manhattan, typically once or twice a year. On the most recent occasion I found the quality of the food, the size of the portions and the value to have decreased significantly. Perhaps this was a product of the restaurant not expecting so large a crowd. The server told us that a portion of the seating area had been closed off as Halloween typically was a slow night for the restaurant. I always order the seafood tower which has a good selection of mainly shell fish (lobster, shrimp, clams and mussels). This time it was heavy on the clams and mussels, but rather light on the more substantial shell fish. While the service is fine, the noise level is quite high and the tables rather small and very close to the neighboring tables. I'm afraid that I have had my last meal at the Atlantic Grill.
Despite the reservation, there was no table. The place was totally nuts because of Halloween. All serving staff was in costume. Really? Are we in grade school? I expect a level of professionalism year round. The second room was closed, and the one room used was so behind schedule, customers were walking around searching for their server.
Went around the corner to another place where the staff, uncostumed, was professional.
We always enjoyed the Atlantic Grill up until Sunday Brunch yesterday. The hostess seated my wife and I ...we had a reservation for 5. We alerted her that our guests would be joining us. When our guests arrived a different person, a guy at the desk said there was no reservation and we weren't there. We wasted 25 minutes sitting at separate tables waiting for each other. The wait staff and hostess apologized but damage was done. One of the entrees was served cold and they gave us the bill without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. The place wasn't as clean as should have been...no towels in the men's room. It is a busy place, but sad to say the price/value is not what it used to be. Too bad, we had enjoyed it in the past
A huge disappointment. After we arrived finally about 10 minutes into it we were asked if we would like some water we responded yes. After waiting 20 minutes for our water And not see omg the server again. I spoke to the gentleman at the front to ask what the problem was and he said he was not able to help me. We left and had a great meal at Orsay instead.
The service was slow and he got a few orders incorrect. It wasn’t a big deal though. We were a large group and had fun so didn’t mind the wait. It was really uncomfortable though because our server ran down the street to catch us to say we didn’t tip enough. He wasn’t graceful at all he just kept saying I don’t think you get it and awkwardly staring at us. When u went into each bill (on the street in front of everyone feeling mortified) I realized my friend only tipped about 6%. He is visiting from Australia with a British girlfriend so they clearly didn’t understand the US custom of tipping. At that point I felt badly but also it was weird. He watched me take cash out and then have to collect money from each friend to tip him. I think he ended up getting a 25 or 30% tip because we didn’t have change. It was aweful. Honestly I’ve worked in restaurants so understand how important tips are but you have to learn to be more tactful and understanding of other cultures. I felt like I was put in the muddle and didn’t want to call out my friend visiting from oversees so dealt with it but after all that he really didn’t deserve the full tip anyway.
Absolutely he worst service I have experienced in many years. We were totally ignored for over 15 minutes despite waving our arms to attract attention. Finally the drinks arrived. Still no menus . Still no waiter. Miraculously the order is taken by the third server. Delivery was inexcusably delayed and one of the 2 entrees was delivered without the promised side dishes and sauce.
NEVER AGAIN! Everyone should avoid the aggravation.
