Atkins Park - Smyrna Ratings and Reviews
Arrived at 8:40 for our 8:45 reservation on Sunday evening and no one was there. No one came to the front at all. We saw one server in the dining room but no one ever acknowledged us. Supposed to be open until 10:00? Bar was open with patrons but smoking is allowed in there so we gave up and went to the Battery at SunTrust Park where lots of places were open and spent our money there.
Since returning to Atlanta recently we've discovered Atkins Park as one of our favorite neighborhood casual restaurants and love certain plates like the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and black-eyed pea salsa. So much so I've introduced my management team to this restaurant and we've had several 20+ for after work dinners at Atkins Park. So I was very disappointed when we dined Saturday May 13 and, despite the lack of diners at the time, the service was the worst I've ever seen at this restaurant or any other. In fact, I had to go to the hostess stand to get appetizer plates and rather than receive an apology was met with "how many do you need?" and handed the plates as though I was wait staff. The temperature of the food was cool when we received it telling me the kitchen is still on point but the wait staff failed the kitchen and diners with an overall lack of attention. Will have to think carefully about returning....I will certainly ask to avoid a certain waitress.
We just moved to the Mableton/Smyrna area and found this by chance one day for lunch. I am originally from New Orleans and was excited to see they have several great items - muffalettas, gumbo, and beignets! We've gone back several times and keep trying more great things!
I really enjoy this place every time that I am in Atlanta. We were tired on Easter Sunday and decided not to go fancy, but just to have appetizers. When we came to the restaurant the waitress, Megan, greeted us so warmly and remembered my daughter and her husband. She was so charming and I was glad we had a chance to eat there again. It was good, but most of all it was fun.
Enjoyed Atkins Park setting, as usual. But on this visit, I learned not to order the PoBoy sandwich. Of my group, 3 ordered it (with shrimp-- both fried and creole), and no one enjoyed theirs. Shrimp was rather bland, even with extra romulaude sauce. May have to stick to brunch here, or at very least, never order the sandwich again.
Our server was friendly and helpful though.
The night started off fine, but after a bit we realized the waitress we had was not very good at watching her tables or being attentive. It took her an hour to take our food order and she messed up on our drink orders several times. She did comp my entree because the kitchen had burned my chicken. I would give this place another chance, but I think I would rather sit at the bar instead of the dining room.
We were there for Oysterfest and it was so unorganized. Saturday was awful.. it took us 2 hours to get our food and another hour to find someone to pay for our meal. They also messed up my order so all I had were 3 oysters when we were there for a total of 3 hours. Sunday, we had a reservation and it was dead. It took our waiter 30 minutes to ask for our drink order. When we can back we told him we were ready to order and he said he needed a few minutes and walked away. It took him about 20 minutes to return. All we got were raw and fried oysters. We were there for a total of 2 hours and service was horrible. Not coming back here
Food Great, service was a little slow but it was super busy! The server did a great job with everything going on! However the Hostess was rude beyond anything. I called telling them that I had made a reservation and we were running late. The hostess kept arguing about how a walkin would be over and hour, yet I had a reservation. The hostess said she would check on the reservation and hung up. I called back numerous times and was put on hold every time. Finally she answered and stated rudely that we had a conversation 5 minutes ago and wouldn't stop arguing or listen that I had a reservation and I was calling to make sure the reservation went through since we had people waiting to get seated
We've eaten at Atkins Park before but have had a couple of frustrating experiences. It's a great atmosphere and the service is always very good but the food can be hit and miss. On this last visit my beef dish was overly salty. I couldn't eat any more after the first bite. I told our server who was very apologetic. I ended up sharing my dinner mate's trout which was excellent. On the two out of six occasions where we had a food issue the staff were always very accommodating which always makes me want to continue to support them.
However, I think they need to pay attention to the dishes as they go out. Continued disappointment food wise will cause me to go elsewhere regardless to how good the service is.
Server basically ignored us and it was not crowded. Menu was not available as it was Thanksgiving. I do not eat things on the Thanksgiving menu so ordered a hamburger rare and it was practically burned. I will not be back. I think I should have been informed that the regular menu would not be available.
Very slow service...almost there 2hrs with friends and we're still waiting on our appetizers. The food was okay but not worth the price...it was not expensive. The server did not appear concerned about our food or our wait and blamed it on a large party that was backing up service and food. I have never been to this location but will not be back.
Super service: thanks Meghan. Food was good but not great - a turn from the usual experience at this location where the food is usually great and the service poor or at best, fair. This time, I was thrilled to have Meghan as our server: she was friendly, informative, efficient, and just generally outstanding. Without a doubt one of the top 2 best servers we've had at the Smyrna location. Burgers all around - good but not great this time; tough meat, overly salted and peppered, onion rings weren't as memorable as in past, etc. All in all, one of the best visits we've had to this location (which is close to our office). Again: ask for Meghan - super service!
Went there for dinner and we were quite disappointed. Bar is smoky so we sat outside. Service was very slow even though the place was pretty empty. Ordered a Stella on tap and the beer tasted stale and flat. We decided not to have dinner there and go elsewhere. We waited a while for our waitress to come by and she never did. Had to track her down where she was in a corner just chatting it up with the other waitresses. We didn't eat any food there but this survey requires us to rate the food so we just said good. But we really don't know.
Every time I've been there 3-4 of the beers on the list I tried to order were out. Very frustrating. No valid excuse for this.
Boiled peanuts not cooked enough. A few bites of the almond trout tasted foul and had to spit out in a napkin. Had the beignets which were severely disappointing. They were tough/chewy and not very flavorful. However, the choc/PB bread pudding was excellent.
I didn't bring any of this up to server because we were with guests and didn't want to draw negative attention. We have been here at least 10 times in the past year and I find myself looking for reasons to come back and having a hard time doing so.
The BBQ Brisket Mac n' Cheese was AMAZING! The service was just okay. We went over to the bar after we ate and there was live music. I liked that we got to enjoy a nice, quiet dinner then walk right over to an exciting bar scene. Would definitely like to go back for dinner and even go and try brunch sometime.
My and a group of 5 girlfriends visited this establishment for brunch at the recommendation of a someone. Firstly, it was very empty for a Sunday brunch, particularly the Sunday preceding a holiday. It took approximately 30 minutes for every one to arrive, which should not have been a problem for the waitress considering there were only three other tables in the entire restaurant occupied. Despite several requests for water, the waitress basically avoided our table. She eventually abandoned our table without any notice and her manager took over. The manager arrived to the table talking very loudly and basically yelling at us. She slammed down the three waters that had been previously requested, and in a very demeaning tone informed us that any requests we had were to go through her. When my two friends who arrive last, requested fresh biscuits, she gave him the evilest stare and stated, "WE ONLY GIVE ONE BISCUIT PER PERSON." Well since they had just arrived, it seemed a fair request that they each receive a biscuit that was not 30mins cold. Feeling the obvious tension between the manager and our table, I pulled the manager aside and attempted to find out if we had in someway created the hostility that at this point was certainly undeniable and uncomfortable. She could not provide a reason as to why were we being treated with such disdain, and instead made statements that suggested that she was unaware of her own rudeness. Feeling unfairly and undeserving mistreated, my party decided to leave this establishment, NEVER TO RETURN. Thankfully, we ended up at Chicken and the Egg, where we had an AMAZING brunch!
The fried green tomato appetizer was the yummiest version I have ever had - lots of different flavors and textures! Our main courses were pretty good, but dessert and service were very disappointing. Dinner and dessert took two hours for three people on a relatively light weeknight.
We started coming here a little while now. I have written good reviews in the past Something has happened that this last experience was not up to par. First of all we didn't get waited on right away. A waitress asked us if we had been helped yet. When we told her no she went to find our waitress. The waitress was okay but kind of seemed put out that she had to wait on us. My husband ordered the crab soup to start and it was terribly spicy but he ate it anyway. I ordered Sangria. The waitress came back and said they were out of it. Then I ordered the chicken stuffed dish that is notated to be a house special dish. The waitress came back and said they were out of it! Our reservation was for 6pm and they were already out!! I ordered the craw fish cakes with a jimca salad. The salad was very nice. The craw fish were very chewy I didn't care for it, but my husband ate it. My husband ordered the jambalaya, which is a favorite of his and always orders it here. It was also spicier than usual and it had an odd taste, almost perfumey. My husband asked if there was a new cook or something explaining what was wrong. She said that there was a new cook and that she would have them taste it. She never told us if they tasted it or even took the dish back. No one else came over. My husband doesn't like to complain so he just asked for a togo box and the check. It will be a while before we go back.
Went on mothers day early in the afternoon, waiter encouraged us to take our time ordering but after taking our time it took almost an hour to get our food. Most of the poached eggs were overcooked but that's easy to overlook when you're happy to finally have something to eat. Also noticed that one entree was missing the smoked sausage that was supposed to accompany it. Oh and I also had to request a new fork when I noticed that not all of the grime had been washed off the one I was initially presented with. Other than above everything was fine, waitstaff was apologetic but nothing done to make it right. The food on past visits has been great so this meal was an unwelcome surprise.
I have dined here before and enjoyed it thoroughly. Mother's Day was a comedy of errors....comedic until it took over an hour and a half to get our food. The complimentary biscuits, aka some type of bread, were horrible and looked and tasted like those budget flaky layer biscuits. We asked for "saucers" since the very young but sweet waitress didn't bring them. She made an odd face after our request, we soon understood why because she brought us sausages, bless her heart. Anyhow after the very long wait, my mom's waffle was cold and chicken burned. We insisted that mom get it heated up, it was brought back burned on the bottom which she didn't discover until she tried to cut it, it was so tough.
I think I had the best eggs Benedict I ever had. The eggs were perfect and I especially liked the regular bacon with it instead of Canadian Bacon, also the fried green tomato went great with the their special hollandaise Sauce. Everyone in our group thought there food was excellent! Biscuit's served while we waited were extraodinaire ! Service was good, no waiting for our meal. Waiter was friendly. Price was very reasonable.Setting was good... we sat inside but next to open doors which was a nice setting...
My husband and I had dined here once before and were very pleased , so when my mother, daughter and brothers came into town we thought they would enjoy it also. Almost as soon as we were seated it was obvious our waitress was very stressed. She had multiple tables and we waited quite a while for our drinks and to order. She kept apologizing but it was obviously not her fault. Then, we waited over an hour for our food. When it came - and we all ordered something different - it appeared to have been microwaved; it was very hot in some places and stone cold in others. This was true for all our dishes. Would not go to this establishment again - we did have a reservation.
