Aston Oaks - The Oak Leaf Ratings and Reviews
The service was terrible. We were seated for 20 minutes before a server came to the table. It took 30 minutes for the food to be delivered after we ordered. The server was very inattentive and it took multiple reminders to get drinks refilled.
At best the food was average. Burgers are only cooked medium well and well done. They were extremely dry.
I would not recommend and will not return.
Considering the Oak Leaf markets itself on its views of either the golf course or 40' waterfall, why were we seated with a lovely view of closed shades and the back door into the pro shop? We had a 6:15pm reservation and the restaurant was not even half full - about three tables were occupied. We were not seated with a view of anything, even though outdoor seating and window tables were available. Very disappointing. The hostess was very personable, but the customer service stopped after she left our table. Our waiter (Daniel H) was very disinterested in our table. Did I mention the restaurant was not busy? First of all, do NOT snatch a menu out of a guest's hand! Second of all, no matter what your issue is with management or the kitchen, the guest should NOT hear about it. He was very curt with us and slunk back to our table (after we placed our order) and said, "Every time I come in here, no one tells me anything! The kitchen is out of the pork loin." Unfortunately, that was NOT the way to handle the situation.
Knowing that everyone can have an "off" day, we checked with a couple local residents and they indicated that they have experienced the same poor service. However, they were willing to overlook the instance because of the lovely view. Since we didn't get a lovely view, we can't overlook the poor service.
This was our first visit and will be our last visit. The food was good. The price was fair. The ambience was poor. The view was denied. The customer experience with the waiter was poor. There are so many restaurants that put together a winning combination of good food, good service and good value, that there is no need to settle for a sub-par experience.
The food and service are fine at The Oak Leaf. Very much American fare - sandwiches, burgers, salads, entrees. All are reasonably priced. The young lady who waited on us was attentive and pleasant. The biggest drawback was the noise. There were several large parties there for Father's Day, and it was almost impossible to have a conversation with those at our table.
Arrived early for 6:45 PM reservations for 8 and was promptly seated. Greeted by Amy who took drink order. Long wait for drinks. Dinner order taken, long wait again, and at 7:45 PM food had not arrived. When food arrived it was almost warm, vegies were cold. The dining room was not busy, but the wait staff, had tables in the bar, in the dining room, and outside, at same time, which spelled disaster. When asked about the delay the wait staff blamed the kitchen saying there new people back there. Not our typical experience for us at Aston, but reading other reviews seems to be the new norm.
This was the worst experience in a restaurant that I have ever had and I attend a lot of restaurants... The food was terrible I had a prime rib that was so fatty I couldn't even eat it if I had two bites that was a lot there were a bunch of screaming kids running around like a bunch of Banshee Indians whose parents did nothing to control them they were screaming some loud chants of some kind and not just the kids but the parents and the grandfather with no respect for who else was in this restaurant... I would never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone... I was thoroughly embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant to my friend.. I give them a rating of ZERO on every account
The waitress was trying to be helpful. The food for most of the party was fine. The two of us
that had a steak that was suppose to be medium rare came out WELL DONE so much so
that I was unable to eat it. The only thing the waitress could offer was a piece of pie. The
manager said that was all that would be offered in compensation.
This is a nice place for a large group but they could use another server. The food was good and the server was very nice, but she was overworked. She tried hard. We could have used one more table for our large group which we did pull over later after it wasn't needed.
There was a wedding and a surprise birthday party the evening we were there. The free standing dehumidifier nearby and the vaulted ceiling added to the exuberant gatherings resulted in a roaring atmosphere. The server we had was friendly and attentive.
The food felt a little pre-prepared - like salmon or mixed vegetables you might buy frozen at Costco.
The complementary cheese, bread, and grape platter that comes complimentary with a bottle of wine is a very nice touch.
It is convenient for us and we will return.
Birthday Dinner for the family. Seating for 10. The service was prompt, the food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. The Ambiance was more 'Lodge Like', with floor to ceiling windows for a scenic view. Everyone was a 'first timer' but were very impressed.
We have been coming to The Oakleaf since it opened. We have been through all the menu changes and the cook changes, but the one thing that needs to change the most is the noise level. With the high open ceilings the noise travels like wildfire in the forest. Maybe some noise absorbing panels can be installed to dampen the noise. The food was good but could have used a bit more seasoning. Our server was friendly but seemed to be rushing from table to table. We will continue to patronize the restaurant simply because there are not many decent restaurants on the western side of town. We are sorry there aren't more moderately priced restaurants to choose.
