The food at Asti was so bad last night. The buratta tasted like mom’s recipe dressed in hidden valley Italian dressing. My date ordered the $24 salmon, which used to be their stand out. Luby’s makes a better salmon now - Overcooked and no taste. The old version was crisp on top and medium to medium rare - I ordered the $30 hanger steak and it was terrible. Sinewy - it was cooked to my order but really? $30 for a crappy cut of sliced select grade round steak? Silver lining - our service was prompt and underwhelming wine by the glass were at least nice pours (I left most of mine on the table).
We very much enjoyed our return visit to Asti. The service is always really good and we especially appreciated our waiter, Justin, who was very attentive and knowledgeable, as well as friendly and fun. I usually get pasta, but opted for the salmon and enjoyed it. I had the salsa verde on the side, and fairly glad I did as it wasn't really my cup of tea with the salmon particularly. But the fish was perfectly prepared. I subbed green beans for asparagus and they were beautifully grilled. My husband got the Paglia e Fieno Casarecce, which was very rich and very good! It was spinach and egg pasta, prosciutto, peas, in a cream sauce. He really liked it. The wine we chose was a Sicilian one which had been recommended to us by the bartender on another visit. Very smooth and just right and the price was reasonable as well. We will be back soon.
GREAT place to go for lunch or dinner! I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. Have had several pasta dishes, salmon and duck...all great. And, the desserts are to die for. Super service.
I would normally would have identified the Service as 'Outstanding', as Mr. Emmett Fox waited on us for a good portion of our meal. Unfortunately, our waitress may not have been told that we were celebrating an anniversary; and, we felt somewhat rushed during the first part of our visit. The quality of the food, the size of our portions, and the unique wine recommended was indeed 'Outstanding'.
Linguine con Congolese had sand in the clams. Everything else was very good
Love love love this place. Always try to go back when I want Italian.
Generally a good experience. The white bean purée appetizer was delicious.
Would have liked a few more vegan options.
Trout piccata is outstanding. White bean appetizer so yummy! Stuffed mushrooms still need salt. Waitress and bus peeps - delightful. One of my fav places in Austin!!
Great food and wine and service. Better than just a neighborhood restaurant. Truly fine dining but in a casual neighborhood setting.
Great food. A real neighborhood restaurant. I particularly enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms. My husband had the carbonara --it was wonderful--the homemade pasta was outstanding and the sauce delicious. I had a pizza. It was also very good. Good sized portions too. The waitstaff were very attentive. Definitely recommend.
Excellent food and wine list. Our server made a fantastic wine recommendation! The chef/ owner (?) came around to talk to guests to ensure the food and service was top notch. The only drawbacks are that it is rather crowded (tables very close to one another similar to European dining) and the noise level was very high. Despite that, I highly recommend for special occasions or a really nice meal. I will definitely return.
Wonderful food and staff, the prices were higher than expected with $ rating. We were celebrating a birthday, and wait staff were excellent!
Excellent dining experience from start to finish. We were seated promptly, enjoyed a delicious red sangria, nibbled on tasty bread all capped by one of the best Italian meals we have had in Austin. The server was attentive and quick. We look forward to an occasion to come back!
Very nice, great service with very attentive staff and food was excellent.
Asti is a lovely neighborhood gem. Food is yummy, the service was spot on, and the ambiance is wonderfully intimate and warm.
We had a great time at Asti as usual. My lamb bolanese was excellent.
I’ve been going to Asti for 15 years now but haven’t been in about a year. The food is even better and portions seemed bigger too. I love this place so much!!
Amazing food! Savored every bite with a glass of my favorite italian wine...
Reliably outstanding. The chef’s palate and sensibilities strike the perfect balance of simplicity, creativity, and refinement. The wine list is outstanding, the atmosphere comfortable and conversation friendly— accommodating romance and platonic conversations with equal ease.
Food was great. Wine was great. Staff was great. Had an excellent dinner dining experience.
Delicious Italian fare and tentative, friendly service.
The homemade pasta was very good. All three off us ordered different things and they were all very good.
Great food (all the pasta dishes are outstanding, love the bread, love the fried brussels sprouts), relaxed, quiet atmosphere. Great wine too. My parents hate loud restaurants and this is a comfortable place for them.
The food was excellent and the service was good. I walkways going to this restaurant as it reminds me of the neighborhood restaurants in NYC. Love this casual atmosphere ; had a very fun evening.
Friendly service and excellent Italian food! Well priced and perfect for a date or going out with friends.
Rigatonni is fabulous!!! I get it almost every time because it is awesome.
The pizza was really good. The only negative was a little too much butter.
I’m is a little pricey but sooooo good! The mushroom appetizer is to die for!
Always great food and service...never fails. The full staff obviously gets along as they work well together. We will and do eat there regularly.
First time here. Met the owner. Great recommendations and service from the staff. Loved it and will be coming back!
ASTI is my new favorite restaurant: exceptional food and friendly, knowledgeable, attentive service. The food is so good that I may never get to taste everything I'd like to, because what I've already had was so scrumptious it'll be hard not to order it again. I LOVED the trout piccata, and the Brussels sprouts were so good I could easily make a meal of them alone--in fact, I may just do that the next time I go for lunch. I suspect there's no way to go wrong at ASTI; it's an Austin gem!
Asti is a great neighborhood place. It is always good place for a nice dinner out. We have never been disappointed. They have a nice wine list also.
Every aspect first class.
Great service and consistently great food. Thank you.
All three of us were underwhelmed with our food. The waiter did a good job, though, and the restaurant was cute.
I usually like this place and when I'm in the Hyde Park area however today they started me a pork chop that was not cooked and I'm concerned about my health. The owner comped us for the meal but it still doesn't excuse this potentially fatal mistake. All they gave us was a refund and excuses.
Both of our dishes lacked flavor. Stuffed mushrooms were good. Prices are fair and I really want to like this place but not sure I'll be back anytime soon.
Reservation was pushed back 15 minutes. Then we waited another 15-20 minutes to get seated. Then seated right by the door on a night it was in the 20s. Several items were not seasoned - example the gnocchi which was a special that evening - wasn't salted. The lobster soup, another evening special, had almost no taste. It felt like they knew they'd be busy and didn't have to try. Our food would be brought out and then no one checked up on us. So by the time I finally caught someone's attention to get salt and pepper for the soup, it was cold. The seafood risotto, a menu item was excellent. If you are a regular, you'll probably get good attention. If not, consider going elsewhere - at least for a special occasion. And stick with the regular menu - not the specials.
Not a New Year's Eve dinner I want to remember.
We made the reservation a week in advance for New Year's Eve! We had to wait about 10 minutes for our table because it was occupied when we arrived, but that was no big deal. However, when settling our tab after ordering a last round of drinks the manager came over to let us know that "people were waiting on the table" which I've never expedited with a reservation before. He asked if we'd finish our drinks at the bar, because he didn't want to ask us to "chug" our drinks. I've been to ASTI several times and have never been asked to rush from a table or been informed that a reservation had a time limit. It felt very rude and unprofessional since we're not obligated to make sure you're managing your table times adequately.
Asti continues to be my favorite Austin restaurant. It has a warm and welcoming charm, exquisite food that is varied seasonally, and the hospitality of friendly, knowledgeable staff. Each guest is treated with warmth and skillful care. Emmett is a lovely presence, and the entire experience is always calming, nourishing and delightful. Fantastic pizzas, pastas, and seasonal risottos, and elegant desserts. I've enjoyed every single meal here and I come frequently to this neighborhood treasure.
