Asti Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
We were in town for a little get away. Was told by our Uber driver that if we wanted great Italian to try Asti. It was a 3 minute walk from our hotel. The staff was outstanding. Could not have been friendlier or more attentive. Were from San Francisco so know great Italian. Would go back in a minute.
Great food. We started with the bruschetta and had one of the chicken entrées and a pasta entrée. The pasta was similar to gnocchi, but less doughy. The sauce was a wonderful mixture of cream and tomatos with chicken. I would definitely order it again!
Our only negative, was the drunk in the crowd at the bar next to our patio table. That cannot be prevented by Asti's owners; however, it's something to keep in mind before you book a table on their patio.
Also, there was no acknowledgment that we were celebrating my wife's birthday, although I mentioned it on our reservation and when we arrive at the restaurant. Not a big issue, hiwever, this is probably not a restaurant for celebrating.
Girlfriend's birthday with four people attending. The chef made a cake (organized in advance) and they sang happy bday to her in Italian. Also gave us a great table for the occasion with excellent service. I had the bone in ribeye which could be the best steak I've ever had - extremely juicy and it was huge! Also had a great wine list, the Barolo was divine!
Our go-to restaurant when we're in San Diego. The ambiance is much like the old, traditional San Francisco/European restaurants. Always delicious and never a disappointment. Their osso buco is undeniably the best ever; nothing else compares. The sea bass special was perfectly done, and in a light tomato wine sauce. Perfectly delicious.
our dinner for 15 started off great but by the end, our server stopped checking on us, didnt refill our drinks and it took 30 minutes to get our check. Our server then made me divide the check by party because he "wasn't paying attention". Our service wasn't great and that isn't always a reflection of the restaurant itself but the food wasn't good enough to bring us back. It was unfortunate that we had such a unpleasant experience.
Burnt Lasagna arrived and to disguise the kitchen mistake, it was heavily covered with grated cheese. The replacement Lasagna entree consisted of a mixture of cooked noodles, Mozzarella Cheese and Meat Sauce - all heated in a Microwave Oven, rather than baked.
The frozen butter pats were replaced by a ramekin of Microwave melted butter sauce.
We got to the restaurant like 45 minutes early, and they were able to seat us right away. The hostess and waitress were super friendly and welcoming. You get free valet if you done here, let them know right away so they cam get it signed by the manager (don't listen to the valley attendant, they told me it would be $15 instead of $20, but it truly is free).
The food was excellent. If you check in on yelp, you get a free appetizer. We got the buffalo mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, and prosciutto. I got the lobster, shrimp and scallop chef special - this was so good! It was a little too oily, but the flavors were there. My sister got the shrimp and crab pasta dish - the vodka sauce was so good and you can tell the pasta was handmade. My other sister got the steal with rigatonI - this was great, but came with a bit too many mushrooms and tomatoes, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was seasoned well. All these dishes came with a beautiful orchid on top! This made it so fun and inviting.
The ambiance is nice, with a rustic and cozy feeling. The noise levels are pretty low. They have a really nice wine selection. There is only one bathroom, so be aware of that.
Thank you for a great experience.
Italian dining at it's best. Simple, quality ingredients beautifully prepared. Visited Asti for lunch and had the Rigatoni Rugatino. Enjoyed it so much that I had to have a cannoli for dessert. Great experience, and will have to remember this next time when visiting San Diego.
We finally had the chance to try the famous tomahawk steak and boy we're we impressed! My husband and I shared the steak and ate two baskets of bread (amazing as well) and left with full bellies and big smiles. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing!! We reserved a table again for tomorrow evening!
Good authentic Italian food with great service! I took the wife there for a dinner date and was pleasantly surprised to see Antonio Gates there (San Diego Chargers football player)! No one bothered him while he ate peacefully in the company of 3 other friends. The restaurant has a wall of pictures of different celebrities that have visited. I especially enjoyed speaking Italian to the native Italian waiters. I was told that the head chef was Italian too! So you're getting the real deal here. The prices were reasonable except for the wife's dish, which was some kind of fish that I forget that cost $42, which I thought was higher than it should be but it was delicious. We had the creme brulee for desert which was one of the best I've had. Don't ask me why they serve creme brulee in an Italian restaurant. I'm just glad they did! One of the owners was there and he took care of valet parking for me! I'll be coming back.
