Had reservations for 8:00 for 6 people. Not seated until 830. Not served food until almost 930. Way overbooked. Food was very good as usual but their planning failed when seating people without reservations.
Food was good, staff was ok. Prices were fair to high. Convenient to hotels in Gaslamp area. I didn’t realize it until we got back to our hotel but we were charged for an extra drink we did not have.
Wonderful antipasto and excellent service from Guiseppe. The pappardelle ala Vodka was outstanding and the Spaghetti D'Asti was delicious! The chocolate lava cake and the pistachio cheesecake was out of this world!
Exceptional food and our waiter provided amazing service! Highly recommend. The lobster fettuccine was exceptional.
Have eaten there severa times & it is consistently superb. We always return when we are in the area. Highly recommend!
I found out that I was charged an extra $6 for the bartender to shake, chill, and strain two shots of vodka in to martini glasses. That seems excessive to me.
I made a dinner reservation for my girlfriends birthday and I asked for flowers and they gave us a beautiful flowers, I asked for a very good meal and they gave us a very very good meal, I asked for a cake with strawberries and they gave us the cake with strawberries...it was an excellent dinner and the service was outstanding!! Thanks for everything, we will come back very soon!!
Overpriced and too loud with cussing and yelling from all tables it seemed
The menu had many tempting options. We shared the octopus salad which was amazing. My gnocchi was some of the best I have had with a very unique sauce. Our waiter was very helpful with wine selection and Lave cake topped off the evening.
This is our favorite San Diego area restaurant! We've been coming here on our anniversary (within a few days of the special date) - this is our 5 or 6th...and with each trip to San Diego as well. We love the food - the authentic atmosphere from the wait staff to the delicious food...do not pass up dining here!...you'll make it a 'must' thereafter. Thanks again, for a most-enjoyable evening!!!
We had excellent service, amazing food, and a wonderful experience!
Outstanding on all counts!
Great ambience, food to die for, and service that is impeccable!
We highly recommend Asti if you are into great food and superior quality! Andre
A group of 10 came here after a convention, the staff was excellent, the food was tasty. Overall it was a great evening!
Restaurant tries to hard to bilk you for higher priced meals on the specials list which they don't price. Thus you don't ask (embarrass yourself in front of your customers) but the unpriced entrees are Very expensive. In addition, the waiter tries to sell you expensive seafood appetizers without pricing - we resisted that fortunately. I won't go back here as long as they do such things. Ken
There are lots of restaurants in the Gas Light District, many of which are quite good. This is a particular favorite. Old style, neighborhood Italian with delicious food.
Food was fabulous. Pasta Vongole highly recommended. The mozzarella was out of this world. Served with fresh tomatoes and prosciutto was outstanding! Definitely a restaurant to come back to. Nice wine list also.
Great tasting food served hot the way it should be. My wife thought the gnocchi was superb with a gorgonzola sauce that was full of flavor. I really enjoyed the Risotto Pescatori. The fish components were all perfectly cooked.
Decent food overall. The GasLamp district of San Diego is touristy and pricey so looking on recommendation apps such as this and Trip Advisor I tended to go with the one that had “the least bad reviews.” I found it very New York style, cramped seating, but very friendly waiter who after pouring our wine said that he would let us enjoy that for awhile and come back for our order. Never felt upsold or pressured at all. Meal was good, cheese/meat plate for appetizer was great, wine fine. $180 for 2 people and enjoyed the experience. Might come back in town. We did indicate that it was our anniversary dinner in the Open Table notes but it didn’t get to the restaurant. No worries. If you are looking for good food and more relaxed atmosphere, I would recommend Asti.
This was the best dinner we had with friends in San Diego. It is an excellent Italian upscale restaurant in a tourist area. We enjoyed burrita Caprese salad and Caesar salad and split Veal Piccata. All were outstanding. Plus great service from our waiter originally from Cinco Terre area in Italy. This was a repeat visit for two of us who return whenever we are in San Diego
Great Place, Great Food, Energetic
Service was amazing, ordered specials - Bacon Wrapped Shrimp in some type of cheese sauce was best bite of night. Wife order the Veal Chop that was 2nd best. I had the Chilean Sea Bass. Of course we finished off with Tiramisu.
All flavorful - would order each again but probably go to menu instead of specials since the menu has so many enticing offerings. (Specials tend to cost more as well).
Tip - Asti accepts the San Diego Restaurant Gift Card - they sell at Costo for $65 (for $100 - great value) especially at a 5 star place like Asti.
Amazing food and service!
Food was medicocre. Atmosphere was worse. Crowded and extremely loud.
Good kind staff.
For the value in price it wasn’t worth it. The ambiance was nice and the service was great however the food wasn’t that great. I ordered the chefs special of the filet mignon covered in mushroom sauce and the lobster tail. The sauce did not look appetizing as it ruined the presentation (it was brown). The lobster was over cooked so it was chewy and I wasn’t brought melted butter nor lemons to go with it. We got a raspberry with white chocolate desert to share between two people. It really looked the size for a child. I don’t plan on coming back.
We came on a weeknight when there were mostly conventioneers there. You do not want to be in a place with hard surfaces echoing all the noise produced by a bunch of people getting drunk on expense accounts - unless you're one of them. The noise level was deafening. My wife and I didn't even try to talk to each other during the hour or so we were there. In fact, we only stayed - and I'm giving them as good a rating as I am - because the food was excellent (I had ravioli, my wife had linguini w/ clams and we split a salad). And the service was pretty good considering we were sharing a waiter with these large tables full of people ordering everything on the menu plus frequent wine and bottled water refills. We will cautiously give them another try when we're in town.
The food was outstanding and the ambiance just perfect. I would recommend it highly
I was visiting from out of town. I enjoyed my meal very much. Our server was very knowledgeable.
Very average Italian meal. Nothing bad, however nothing inspired either. Ordered the seafood fettuccine and the tagliatelle bolognese and both were quite basic and bland. Expected more at this price point.
The most delicious veal chop and asparagus. The risotto prscatore is bountiful and as fresh as can be.
This is really a great choice for excellent Italian fare.
Excellent Tuscan soup, rich and hearty, good pasta 'al dente ', as it should be, outstanding gelato, silky and smooth. This restaurant stays true to its Italian roots!
We had a lovely time, a delicious lunch, a surprise birthday treat, and time to enjoy a meaningful conversation.
The food was very good but the restaurant was a bit touristy in that they took our picture and then charged us for pictures.
Marguerite pizza didn’t have tomato’s, just tomato sauce, disappointing. Salads were great and the lasagna was very good.
This is one of the best Italian Restaurants in the Gaslamp!
One of the best restaurant Italian meals we have had in a long time. We will definitely go back and recommend it.
I loved the atmosphere of this beautiful and traditional Italian Steakhouse setting. This felt like New York City or Chicago on a good night. Vibrant and fun to be there. The bar tender, Mike is amazing and the owner stands around watching that everything looks right. The food was amazing and every person in the place seemed to be happy and having a good time.
The food was delicious, the staff were attentive, making it a perfect ending to our day.
