We had a lovely evening. Dinner and service was great
Our server (the entire staff actually) was absolutely fantastic. The food and wine choices were superb. It's a little on the pricey side, but definitely a place you won't be disappointed with.
I must get better at remembering the dishes. All I cant tell you is the food was wonderful; friends loved the lasagne and I loved the ribbon pasta with meat sauce mushrooms. Lovely location.
Wonderful as always! Great service and food!
The chefs special was expensive and missed the mark, unfortunately. Dry lobster tail is never good enough. Other than that, very good service and ambiance.
Filet was perfect, lamb chops excellent. Great time!
Great place that's been around since the mid 90's. Good was delicious and had great presentation. I will for sure be going back.
Food was good but very costly.
Overall the experience was positive. The fish was delicious. Someone ordered the lobster and felt it was over done. My group was very large and when asked if I wanted a sampler of the appetizers I said yes and I feel they over did it - serving us way more than I expected so DON"T say YES. They brought calamari and it was OKAY, not the best.
Service was SLOW.
Dessert was fantastic
This is a very good Italian restaurant in the Gas Lamp District of San Diego. Sit inside and not in its outdoor seating because the restaurant is located next to Hostel and the residence stand right next to you to smoke. I thought CA had struck smoking laws; but, if they do they are not enforced in this area. During diner I had 3 people smoking 4 feet from my table. Terrible. The inside seating is old school charm. Now the important things. The pasta is made fresh and is excellent. The wine list is more than adequate. The service was excellent. So, I recommend trying Asti if you are in the area; but, sit inside.
Took 12 - colleagues and customers during trade show. Was perfect location and great choice.
Seated at the busy hostess station. My 2 shrimp were over cooked & tough. 3 small lukewarm scallops. Not a good value. My husband had lasagne which was like noodles swimming in very hot red sauce. Service was ok, I wish she would have informed us about the nights specials.
Definitely not a repeat.
When making reservation designate indoor or outdoor table as there are 5 small tables on the very busy sidewalk. In an area of dozens of venues the Asti is a rare find. Fine food, excellent service and wine list combine for a wonderful meal. There is room for large parties and intimidate tables for 2. The superb menu selections are exceeded by a Chef's Specials edition that make your choice more exciting. From starters that make your mouth water to deserts that make you feel a bit decadent, the only option to try it all requires coming back again. Don't be surprised by a visit from the Boss to ensure you are pleased with his staff and your food. Wow!
Amazing! Juan was a great host
Ok food. Had soup and pasta. Taste was like it may have been microwaved minutes before serving. Food came out way to fast to be fresh. That was alarming. Don’t think I will return.
We decided to have dinner at Asti while vacationing in San Diego. It was near our hotel and we were given a discount card. The food was very good, but overpriced for what we got. The service was good.
Always great food and great service. Been coming here for more than 10 years now. It’s really the only place we eat when we come downtown.
Excellent authentic food and wine selection
The server was not very polite and forgot to put in our main dishes. The runners were much nicer. The food was pretty good but I have had better Italian.
The restaurant was highly rated but I was very disappointed. I was dining solo, was seated promptly, but didn't get a menu for over 10'. It seemed like I was an afterthought as there were several large parties at tables nearby. I had a very ordinary Caesar salad that was small and overpriced. A shrimp gamberi appetizer was excellent, but my lobster trail with shrimp over pesto linguini was very bland and also overpriced relative to other items on the menu and other nearby dining establishments. I wasn't even offered bread until i had already finished my salad. The dining district in San Diego has many fine restaurants. Unless you like loud ambience with sketchy service cross this one off the list.
Restaurant has potential but the poor service and astronomical dinner prices (for Italian food) do not justify a return. Service was slow and impersonal. Quick to grab the bill though! Not impressed; I would not recommend given so many other great options in the area.
Went here with a group of 6. Got a great table but the food was just average. Nothing special! Also when I pulled up in Open Table to find a place in Little Italy this place was located in the Gas Lamp district NOT in the Italian area😥 I was very disappointed with my very expensive meal!! ALSO DO NOT ORDER The Main lobster tail!! It is not Maine Lobster it is Rock lobster!! They should get in trouble for false advertising because 110 million % it was NOT Maine LOBSTER!! They did nicely remove it from my bill but still not appropriate advertise it as Main Lobster!!
Very crowded. Very noisy. Very cramped. Seemed like some one’s behind was in my face or hanging over my table every 5 minutes. The worst most distracting restaurant I’ve been to in years. It felt like an escape when we finally finished and left. Food was bland. Quite disappointing.
Service was very good, servers were nice, food tasted good, but the portions were way too small. I wouldn't come here if you were really hungry. But if you already had a big lunch this might be a good spot. The food was good, but not that good that you should only get a small portion. Don't get the veal if you are hungry at all.
Sorry owner for the tough review, your people are nice but you left me hungry.
Great meal. Food was excellent. Service even better. Went early with young family and really enjoyed ourselves before restaurant got busy for their Saturday night service. Will definitely return.
Food was wonderful
BE CAREFUL... The "Chef Specials" have no price for a reason... If you have to ask you cannot afford them. Each of the two we ordered were MUCH more than the most expensive item showing a price on the menu. $55 and $65 each. Vs $20-35 average of others.
Drinks were expensive and the poor was very small. A real rip off on the liquor. At the prices they charge
they can give more than one ounce on hard liquor and fill the wine to a reasonable level. They are cheap.
If I go back I will not order any kind of liquor and that is where a restaurant makes it's money.
Felt way overpriced for what was served. Apps looked like they were bought from Costco and were $15+ each. Food was ok but for $50+ a meal expected much better. Not the greatest atmosphere for a Valentine’s Day when it felt like they doubled the capacity inside and we were literally sitting on top of our neighbors.
Juan our server was so accommodating! Food was old school Italian well prepared and high quality. Better than anything else in the Gaslamp!
Nothing special. Food was fine, but not worth the price.
Whenever I make it to SD, I try my best to dine here. I took some clients for dinner this week and it continues to not disappoint. The service is outstanding as well and you should put Asti on your short list of places to dine in SD.
First time to Asti. Nice spot, delicious food, friendly service.
We had a delicious and authentic meal. The flavors were splendid and the experience was quaint. It felt like a small mom and pop style Italian restaurant. I would love to go back for the Veal Park!
Our waiter, Marc with a C, was outstanding! Dinner, wine and dessert were top shelf. A wonderful dining experience in San Diego!
The ambiance was amazing. Our server Mark was spot on with service, recommendations and table side manner. It was touching to see the attention given to both new guests and regulars. The food was as wonderful (both in terms of presentation and taste) as the dishes we had in Florence and Venice.
Mark was our server, you could tell he really cared and provided top quality service! The food was great, loved that their salads are organic. That’s important to me!! Great experience, so cozy and enjoyable. We went early and I’m glad we did cause the place filled up fast. It was Friday night...
Business/friend dinner...4 ordered the special fettuccine with lobster, 2 ordered the surf and turf and 1 ordered a house special seafood pasta. Everyone loved their dishes...it was tasty and for apps we had calamari. Everyone finished their meals...so freakin delicious! Eric was our waiter and he was the best!!
Most accomodating. Took care of us when everyone else was closing. Patient and caring service. My highest recommendation.
