Aspens Signature Steak Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Aspens several times and always enjoyed it. It has been about a year since we went last. The food is not the same quality we have had in the past. The bread is now very tough and dry and cold. They do not serve the mixed butter but just plain had butter. It is still very lovely but too much light now. No specialty Martinis like I remember them in the past.
I have eaten at this restaurant a few times and it has been great but that was not the case this past Sunday. I’m not sure if they were having staffing issues in the kitchen but the food was just average. My 6 ounce steak was supposed to be cooked medium well but it was basically raw in the middle when I made my first cut. I let the manager know because he was the first to come by our table and ask how everything tasted. I received a new steak several minutes later and it was cooked well done but I ate it anyway. It was also a lot smaller than the steak I had originally received. I would say it was probably 3 ounces. I wish I had taken pictures but my phone was in my car because we decided not to bring our phones in so we would not be tempted to use them. My wife had fried shrimp and the batter was extremely salty and she asked me not to say anything to the our waiter. She brought her whole meal home and threw it away. I spent $145.00 of my hard earned money to eat at this very nice restaurant which is a rare event for my family. It was not up to par with Outback or Longhorns. It will be a while before I go back but I would recommend it based off my previous experiences.
Menu says meatloaf has a mushroom demi sauce. I asked for clarification from the waitress on what was on the meatloaf - she said a BROWN mushroom demi sauce. When the meatloaf came - it has ketchup on it. Never listed ketchup on the menu and it was never mentioned by the waitress. They can't take the ketchup off because it's baked on the whole meatloaf.
Asked for a hanger steak and frites as a replacement for the meatloaf. Forty minutes later, after my party completed their meals and we were just sitting looking at each other I still didn't have my replacement dinner.
I asked the waitress as she passed by where my dinner was. She sent over the manager who (...are you ready for this...) said, "I understand you have a problem." I won't even go into the lame conversation I had with this guy. Completely unprofessional!
I asked for the check and they gave me my replacement meal in a brown bag, which I put in the trash at the BP station across the street.
I have to say this was SO UNUSUAL for a Sedgwick property -- I'v been going to their restaurants since Van Gogh's and they're typically great. Chris and Michele would be so embarrassed that this happened at their restaurant. This experience was probably the worst I've had anywhere -- I'll NEVER go or recommend the Aspens -Shallowford Rd . location again. Bad - unprofessional experience.
Aspen's, while very nice, seems to be trending downward. The little things begin to add up. No longer the special spread for bread. Now it's just butter. We had prime rib and fries for dinner. The prime rib was very good but the fries were not as crispy as they used to be. They also used to offer the Mousse cake as a complimentary dessert and now the red velvet cake. Nice restaurant and ambiance. Would like to see them kick it up a notch for the money.
The menu was good. The appetizers were curious. The calamari and fried vegetables were greasy and not very flavorful. Thr bruchetta, again looked appetizing, but the bread was tough, crust was hard, and the tomato salsa was bland. The salmon was ordered done. The interior of the salmon was raw. If we had wanted sushi we would have gone to a sushi restaurant. The pork chop was presented nicely but was very tough. We would not recommend Apens to anyone used to fine cuisine.
Restaurant and Brunch was cold. Service was good. Buffet was cold with open chafing dishes. Quiche was dried out. Meats and eggs were cold. I asked server for hot sausage and he brought some from the kitchen. Our Brunch time was 12. I ordered an omelette for each of us from the bar/meat station. We found out he was the chef's/owners son. No swiss cheese for an omelette so I ordered a bacon/goat cheese omelette and a vegetable omelette for my wife. My omelette was delivered with 3 chips of bacon and a lot of goat cheese. My wife's omelette came 15 minutes later. We were told there was a mix up with the chef and son's order. We were told chef was an owner. They gave the omelette to another table but nobody came and told us that. There were only 5 tables occupied in the restaurant. A total disappointment. We brought this information to the manager who apologized and he wanted to do something for us but we informed him we would not be back.
overall a very enjoyable dinner experience. We were seated immediately upon arrival, which I always appreciate when I have a reservation. Our server (Liz) was very attentive and helpful. I had the bone-in filet, which was cooked perfectly medium rare, very tender, and tasted great with the side of Worcester and ground horseradish. I also had the cauliflower side, which was quite tasty. My wife had the Rare Tuna Two ways, seared and poke style; excellent and I highly recommend it.
I had a reservation. We were promptly seated and almost immediately were provided water and bread. Very shortly afterwards where greeted on by our server, Liz S. She explained the specials in great detail. Then inquired about drinks and appetizers. When we ordered, we didn't have to wait long before the meals were delivered. Everything was very tasty!
After many visits to the West Cobb Aspens several years ago, I was extremely pleased to see the East Cobb have the same outstanding environment, service, and food as we were accustomed to from the West Cobb location. The East Cobb location provided us a memorable evening and a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I highly recommend it and look forward to many return visits.
Server was slow getting back to us for a reorder on drinks. My wife had the trout which she thought was great. I had the prim rib which was disappointed in. I thought that I read that it was salt encrusted, however the meat was bland tasting. The cut of meat was okay, but not much taste. There were 7 of us and no one else had any negative comments, so I guess I am the only one. I did not complain to the server because I didn't want any kind of disruption to the party mode.
