Asparagus is a spectacular restaurant! Definitely the best in "da region" fit for any foodie. It is great for a special date, a celebration. Whether romantic or with a large group, it is a perfect place to share a great meal. And a special "hats off" to Kate and Stephanie both amazing waitresses.
Wonderful as always ... wished we lived closer to visit thee more often.
Quality has dropped a notch in every visit I have had.
The ambiance was great and it was quiet. It was a great place to have lunch. The server was awesome. She was nice, attentive, and very helpful. The calamari was a little rubbery but the sweet and sour ginger spicy sauce was very delicious! I am typically not a fan of rice but having it soaked in the sauce on the stir-fry made it very good. I would definitely recommend this place.
Best restaurant in northwest Indiana!! Great food, good service, Jazz night the best!!! By far my favorite!!!
We were seated and given water. There were 2 waitresses and 1 other couple in the restaurant. 3 couples came in after us and had their drink orders and appetizer orders taken and brought out and still no one came to us. We gestured to one waitress without response. We waited another 20 minutes and walked out without being served.
We have dined at Asparagus many times. We wanted to have a nice experience with our daughter and son in law and that wasn’t the case. Our waiter was sloppy- spilled all of our drinks as well as my main dish. The staff didn’t clear our plates. Had to keep reminded the waiter that we were still waiting on dishes to arrive.
The appetizers we ordered were on the heat lamps too long and the portions were VERY small compared to our last few visits.
Just a very disappointing evening.
As always, I was wowed by the wonderful meal and well taken care of by the knowledgeable and attentive wait staff. The fusion of flavors in our dishes was delicious!
I’ve now introduced one more friend to Proximo, and they will be back!
Fantastic Everytime! The consistency of this place is absolutely outstanding. More bang for your buck!
The appetizers, drinks, and dessert were better than the main courses we ordered. The service was fantasic.
Spicy lemongrass scallops & shrimp had multiple hairs! 5 spice duck had no flavor. Business casual dress not necessary.
Hi Charman, I wish you would have said something. That is the lemongrass fibers in that dish there is a lot of them as we put a large scoop of the shredded lemongrass in that dish. We would have explained if you would have mentioned it or would have gotten something else if you didn't like that.
Excellent meal and great service from Nick
Second time there. Food was absolutely wonderful. Loved every dish. Our waitress Amy was so knowledgeable and attentive and funny. It was a great anniversary dinner!
Excellent recommendations from Kate. Tried new drinks on menu and different dishes all were very pleasing and satisfying .Recommend highly.
Asparagus always has a great staff to greet you when you walk in the door! We got sat exceptionally fast and our service was outstanding! Food was prepared to perfection. We love coming to Asparagus!
Asparagus is beautiful restaurant and Cassandra was an amazing server. However, it was not a great experience for my mother's birthday celebration. We made the mistake of sitting in the bar (per our request) to be close to the music, however it was so loud we couldn't hold conversation. My mother's food was really not good; poorly seasoned steak, and over cooked; potatoes were like soup. Our server did say the manager was going to discount the bill but when we got it we had to send the bill back for the discount, it was eventually completely removed. Cassandra made every effort to apologize and make it a better experience, which I appreciated and why I would recommend this restaurant, but the food was not as good as it was the 1st time I went.
Thank you so much for the honest review, and happy that Cassie was able to help correct our mistake on the steak. We do have jazz on the first and third Saturdays and it can get a little loud, we could always put you in a quiet spot for dinner then finish in the lounge to hear the band after. Hopefully we can correct our mistake on your next visit.
For the second time in a row the reservation we made has not recognized when we arrived !! Fortunately, we were there early enough so there was space for us.
Also, this time, when we were seated in the dinning room, your other guests were were so rude with noisy behavior we asked to be moved to the bar. We suggest you train your people in appropriate ways to approach guests who are too load for normal restaurant conditions.
Thanks for letting us know I will definitely talk to the staff about speaking with customers that are too loud and disruptive. I will figure out the situation with the reservations not being in, this is our first month with this reservation system and we are all still trying to learn everything. Thanks for all of the feedback and hope to see you again soon.
The family feel of Northwest Indiana resturants with a Downtown Chicago vibe without the headache of traffic and parking! Bonus: Food and drinks are AMAZING!!
Finally came here after lots of recommendations and we were pretty disappointed. Although the food was good, take out would have been a better experience. Drink menu was large but don't think there was any alcohol in them for $12. The service was below average, the noise level was very high for a nice restaurant, there was no ambience whatsoever, and the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Garbage everywhere and overflowing trash can. Expected a lot more from this place, would recommend for carryout only.
I really appreciate you letting us know how your dinner went, I am extremely sorry that we dropped the ball in a lot of areas. I can assure you that this isn't the norm here and I am going to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Place has very nice ambiance. Food flavors and portions were great for the price . However ,
The appetizer (seafood egg rolls) was over priced. $12 for essentially 2 egg rolls cut in half. Pad Thai probably the best in the region.
The braised pork shank has great flavor . Not stingy on the rice either.
Service was what I would expect.
Drinks are potent with an extensive martini and cocktail menus.
Thanks for the review, so happy you enjoyed your entrees! We do have some other great appetizers that aren't so pricey (try the lemongrass beef next time!)
I met a friend here for lunch and enjoyed it thoroughly. Although I had heard many good things about Asparagus and loved Siam Marina in River Oaks, I had not been here. Lunch was delicious, fast and the atmosphere was quiet enough you could conduct a pleasant conversation, but lively enough so you didn't feel like you were in a library. I ordered the chicken satay and it was great as were the crab and cream cheese egg rolls. Would definitely go back for dinner as their martini menu looked wonderful.
A must try if in the merrillville indiana area,Quiet, clean, great food, service, very reasonable lunch price to try out first...Lamb Satay was outstanding as well as the thai spaghetti, and beef drunken noodles...go and try a few items you wont be let down.
Great place for special occasions. Me and my wife went There for dinner on her birthday. She loved it . Was a great all around romantic dinner
Set in an area that has seen wonderful restaurants close their doors, Asparagus is a great find for individuals looking for a good meal. Asparagus is a great restaurant for individuals that enjoy unique cuisine with ambiance. The staff is knowledgeable about the food and can provide some solid information. It's not quite the exceptional fine dining experience that I've enjoyed elsewhere but it was definitely better than average.
Great food, terrible and extremely slow service. The place was busy but they had many waiters (waitresses) that were slouching around. People at tables got up and walked over to the bar to order their own drinks citing the M.I.A staff.
That said, the food is outstanding, the live jazz trio is great. I'd give it a 2nd shot when I'm next in that area in the hopes they pay more attention to their patrons.
Awesome food and awesome service. Love Thai food taste a lot
I wish I had discovered this restaurant years ago. This was my second time. The whole experience is "to die for". The service and the food is superb. Martinis--Yum! Everything is top shelf.
Enjoyable from the moment we walked in.
Excellent service, food and atmosphere.
Eating here made a special occasion even more so.
Our server was friendly, "menu" knowledgeable and treated us like we were his only customer's.
I would highly recommend this hidden gem and look forward to returning.
We have dined here before but we were very dissatisfied this time! Our waiter was slow and not very attentive! He didn't seem to be that busy but everything took a long time! Food, especially the fish tasted and smelled old!
As soon as we walked in we knew we would like it. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was fabulous! We will definitely be back!
Excellent restaurant. The menu variety was amazing, the table setting unique, the quality and preparation of the food outstanding! And the taste, out of this world! Service was excellent. Definitely coming back!
Always happy with asparagus, food, drinks, service.
Food was very good. Wish they would add brown rice as a selection.
Pad Thai noodles with shrimp & scallops was almost all shredded cabbage and carrots. My wife ordered a Sidecar. Instead of saying they didn't know how to prepare one, she was served a beverage that was a cross between gasoline and wine. Awful. What happened to this once outstanding gem?
Perhaps worse was the management's indifference to smokers who crowded near the entrance forcing us to run the cancer causing gauntlet entering and leaving.
Terrible waiter and bus service. Cold and too many excuses from waiter for delay in drinks and appetizer. Seriously do not believe I will return.
Spoke with manager and we were re-seated in a different area and comped for part of meal. But honestly the night had gone down too much to save the night.
Maybe it's the fact that we went for Saturday dinner, who knows?
From the moment we were seated, the server was beyond anxious to serve to the point of almost being pushy.
We weren't quite ready with our entire drink order; instead of waiting, they came out piecemeal, one arriving with the appetizers.
The appetizer was the best part of the meal, served warm and fresh. After that we waited 30-40 minutes for our entrees, and our server came back midway through that wait time to reconfirm our selections. My shrimp was cooked to a rubbery state, and I found only one whole scallop in my dish. My companion's beef was far from tenderloin as offered, and some pieces were chewy from gristle.
My creme brûlée dessert was over-torched and ruined by the resulting burned sugar taste. My companion did say the tiramisu was excellent.
I won't be back, sorry.
The service was so bad we got seated at our table and sat there for twenty five minutes before any one came by took take our drink order. I ended up leaving the table to go to the bar to get our drinks while we waited. And we were told we better order right away because the kitchen was slammed, we just ordered drinks and did not even receive them yet! When dinner was served it was cold and we never saw the waiter again to ask how things were or if we needed another drink. We had to flag him down to get the bill. We were looking forward to a great night out it did not happen. upon leaving the restaurant a table stopped us and asked if our service was bad. I guess we were not the only people who experienced this.
Every meal I have had at Asparagus has been amazing. They have some of the best curry and pad thai that I have ever had. The only drawback to this place is the service. The staff is always very friendly but the systems they have at this restaurant don't seem efficient. My wife and I were given a table in a room in the back of the restaurant. This room had approximately 15 tables or so. Instead of giving the entire room to a few waiters/waitresses, they seemed to give every table in the room a different waiter/waitress. Because they do this, the staff seems like they are constantly running around the restaurant in a hurry. I'm assuming that they are waiting on tables that are given to them on the opposite side of the restaurant. When your waiter/waitress leaves your table you will most likely not see them again for about 20-25 minutes. This makes your dinner at Asparagus very long, especially if you want desert. Every time my wife and I eat here it takes around two hours. This is definitely not the place to go if you are in a hurry. If they would organize their systems a little more and give their staff sections instead of giving them tables spread out across the whole restaurant, their turnover would be a lot better, and people wouldn't complain about the service. They do have amazing food though so my wife and I will be returning.
We throughly enjoyed the food. Waitress was nice. Overall a good dinner. The view was awful, your just looking at other buildings. Drink service is slow and refills take forever. I don't know that they were fully prepared for valentine's day. It didn't matter when you showed up if you had a reservation for sometime that night you got seated. Food was fantastic though
A friend recommended this to us. Overall the food was good. The pork meatball appetizer was dense and very bland. The sauce saved the dish. The seagrass flank steak was cut super thin and severely over cooked. The Vietnamese pork roast was exceptional and the Red Soldier seafood dish was very good.
