Asian Rim - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Sushi was awesome!!! but did not care for the dinner menu, and the child's bento meal did not come in a bento box, child was disapponited. we had reservations for two but had a small child with us, so we got stuck in a corner in the back, our child is very well behaved, we take her everywhere, she is very expericenced with dining.
I was very disappointed in this restaurant. First, online it gave me very limited reservation times so I assumed it would be packed. Yet when I arrived, there were only 3 tables full and no more people came during the time I was there except to grab to-go orders. The restaurant menu was completely different than the menu on their site. I had chosen this restaurant based on the online menu because I am vegan and saw some good options. So I was extremely disappointed to see a different menu with many of the things I'd looked at no longer being on the menu. The waiter then described that the website was very outdated. I was sat near the entrance to the kitchen/sushi bar and "enjoyed" a weird smell throughout dinner. My table was so sticky that the first towel the waiter brought to wipe it off stuck to the table as well. My soup and edamame hummus were pretty good but the sushi was very dry and flavorless. When I asked for a refill on my water, the waiter brought a glass full of white specs floating in it. I sent the water back but the new glass that was brought also had things floating in it. At that point I didn't eat or drink anything else and I asked for my check. I do not plan to go back to this restaurant.
This was a very pleasant meal. The food was exceptional. Our waiter although had good intentions was obviously a novice. He forgot to provide eating utensils and was slow to check on the status of our meal. That being said, he did make an effort to offset his mistakes which was greatly appreciated and he recognized his errors. Overall I would recommend the location.
I gave this restaurant a 3 rating and for several reasons. The restaurant was very warm and very uncomfortable for such a hot day in Birmingham. We used the inserts from the menus to fan ourselves and so did others dining around us! The restaurant is also too dark in the evenings. you should not have to use your cell phone flash light to read the menus! And the booths cushions are terrible...in some places on the cushion, you feel like you will sink! So with that said, the food was very good, the sushi was tasty and the prices are fair as well. We had a great server and he was very attentive to us. I could go back again but need better lighting, sit at a table with chairs and I will have to have more air!
My wife and I were there with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 year old grandson. Everyone loved the food with 1 exception. My son and I split an order of calamari and it was terrible. I would suggest removing it from the menu. The server was excellent and had no problem with the occasional challenge a 2 year old presents. Overall it was a great night out.
My fiancé and I went on $1.25? Sushi night. Server was attentive, knowledgable on menu. Tried all 4 sushi specials and they were great! Had the calamari for an appetizer and it was also really good, not at all chewy. We got there around 5:15, no wait and the vibe of the restaurant was cool (music was also really good!) over all great experience.
We had a large group of about 10 and our reservation was ready before the scheduled time. They didn't make us wait until all of the party was there to seat us like some restaurants do. The menu has a good variety of choices and a variety of prices. You can go with anything from a sandwich to a noodle bowl to a nice entree and sides. Our table ordered everything from lettuce wraps to sliders to a noodle bowl to a steak to sushi to shrimp to Thai barbecue chicken. The waitress was very nice and helpful. It took a little more time than expected for us to get our food, but it was a large group and a full restaurant. I would definitely eat there again.
My sushi wasn't fresh and we had to send some of it back because it was rancid, even the waiter admitted it smelled awful. I recently corresponded with Asian Rim via Twitter about my experience and was ridiculed and lied to, due to this awful customer service and less than fresh sushi we will not be returning.
We finally got a babysitter and were going to go on a double date for some adult time. We were looking for a reservation the day before Valentine's and absolutely LUCKED UP finding Asian Rim! I can't believe we have never been before! Edamame and dumplings - WONDERFUL. Wine suggestions - AWESOME. Sushi and fried rice - I WANTED MORE! Soft classical music - EXTRA PLUS! Beautiful restaurant and the waiter was hilarious, attentive and SO helpful! We will be
This is a wonderfully vibrant upscale sushi restaurant with great cocktails and fast, attentive, friendly service. The casual and informal atmosphere makes for a relaxed evening. Every dish, particularly the sushi, was delectable. Definitely recommended for high-quality Asian cuisine in a fun environment.
This was our first visit to Asian Rim, so we had no idea of what to expect. First of all, our server, Matt, was excellent. He was friendly, efficient, and personable. His recommendations on spice levels were right on target.
Beyond this, the food was excellent. The layout of the menus made selections easy.
This was our first time to Asian Rim and we will go again. Service was very good but they were missing several choices of wine on their wine list. Some of our meals were excellent while others were just OK. Still, we enjoyed our experience and the restaurant is definitely worth a try.
We arrived at the time of our reservation and was told it would be a 20-25 minute wait. When we said we had never had that happen with open table we were told that open table has no idea what goes on in their restaurant. We were seated 15-20 minutes later.
Great local gem. It was an awful day trying to find somewhere for my colleagues and I to eat dinner. Asin Rim was the only place that we could make a reservation last minute on a Saturday evening. They were so accommodating and they food was amazing. Definitely going back.
Had reservation, was seated for 20 minutes, tables around us that came in after us were served. No service at our table. Had to leave. Went to Ginza, which is 5-star sushi and Korean BBQ. Skip Asian Rim and go to Ginza. Excellent food and service there.
Usually service is excellent but tonight our server wasn't. We ate here before and never had a problem but tonight our server Matt did not do a good job. He claimed there was confusion on who had our table. We placed our order with a different server than he finally came over and said he would be taking care of us. He brought us our drinks 10 minutes later and it took over 40 minutes to get our food. Matt stopped by 3 times never asked us how our food was. He said they were short handed and told us this after 30 minutes went by. The other server brought us drinks while Matt was chatting with some people for a long time. She was very good. She knew what drinks we had when we placed the order the first time and asked us if we needed anything else. Matt brought one of us the wrong drink when he came to refill our drinks. I wish we had the first server in the first place she was very good. She apologized for the service and asked us to come back. We are planning on going back and hopefully have that first server. I wish I could remember her name and give her credit for what she did that evening.
Nice ambiance and decor inside and very good sushi. I recommend the Midnight sun (I think) roll which was very good! Got the roll tide roll and it was okay. Expected the fish on top to be hot since it was blow-torched but was cold so just okay. The Junmai Ginjo cold saki is good too and a good price for sake. Would def recommend and go back to try more things.
The food consistently meets our standards. We come back at least once month. The service was great and the staff from the the hostess to the manager are always attentive and kind. Even paying attention to our younger children. This is a good place for family or a special night out.
