I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but brunch at Ashton’s Alley was a disappointing experience.
Firstly, the brunch special was advertised as $26.95 for entree & unlimited drinks both on the restaurant’s website, as well as Yelp / other sources. Upon arriving we were told that the promotion was old & now it was $15 for drinks plus an entree ($20 for buffalo chicken salad!) I tried to argue but to no avail.
Second, after agreeing to the bottomless drink option, I was incredibly disappointed to discover that the mimosas were 90% OJ — I told the waiter it was too much OJ & too little champagne, but instead of bringing me a new drink he brought over the bottle of champagne & poured literally 2 drops of champagne into the top of my glass (I had only taken a sip). While he did make an effort to keep our glasses full following this encounter, I just found it bizarre & poor customer service — especially being that we were 1 of 3 tables in the entire place.
Finally, the maître’d had a serious attitude. Unfriendly an unapproachable. Was visibly annoyed when I asked to sit at a booth instead of table (despite there being no one in the restaurant). Overall I was super frustrated with this experience. It’s a shame Bc I previously attended a happy hour here and had a great experience. Hopefully brunch will improve.
All in all was it not too bad. Food was ok, beer and wine were ok. But just ok. Nothing special or very good about it.
When we arrived in the pouring rain
For Super Bowl...we were told that although We had a confirmed reservation.. they could not honor it because they were full..and had notified Open Table the day before to not take further reservations..they had to turn a lot of people away with Open table reservations... fortunately for us there was a no show, and we got a table
Staff was very pleasant. Did not need a reservation for New Year's Eve as this is a sports bar there were lots of tv's to watch games. I would eat here again.
Sat at bar area and watched the game. Great food and beer.
Good food and atmosphere. Sat at the bar for a late lunch and it was perfect. Nice selection and super friendly bartender.
The burger was gross. I don’t know how you can screw up a burger but they did.
Thanksgiving dinner for our family from Illinois 😊
Don’t know how this place got such high reviews. The food sucked and this place was dead. Very expensive for garbage. Don’t go.
Waitress was on of the best I've had. Food is always good and a step above regular bar food!
We had a very nice dinner in the outside seating area of this neighborhood sports bar. This location allowed us to talk but still see the game on TV when we wanted. The spinach dip with tortilla chips (appetizer) was outstanding and the burgers were very good. Service was friendly.
Went with ten people to watch MLB playoffs. Sat outside with great view of large inside TV’s. Started out by myself and informed hostess ,Brie, that more people would be coming over time. She couldn’t have been more accommodating. Service was excellent. Terrific venue for watching a sporting event on a beautiful evening. Better than most sports bars in midtown.
Great after work spot for indoor/outfit sports and people watching. I'll definitely be back.
Great burgers. Nice outdoor setting, with big screen tv's set up for viewing while outdoors.
We were probably the only tourist there. We felt we discovered a "neighborhood gem." Great atmosphere, food and drink for watching the NBA final. Wish I could remember our waiter's name. He also was a gem.
My boyfriend and I headed here for a quick bite after work. We learned that Happy Hour was only for beers (which we didn't drink that much). Our reservation was for 6:30 so we were able to seat right away. The food was good, and the place really lit up right before the NBA finals game came on. Overall it was a great night!
Went here for mother's day with my daughter who is also a mother. We had massages prior to arriving to Ashton's. My veggie omelet was great and my daughter's California wrap was great too. We had a great time.
Considering how many great places there are on every street of Manhattan, i would not go back to this place. It was an 80 degree day and it was unbearable sitting inside... Early in the season and management has not turned AC on yet. We moved closer to outside and it was ok... Food was very mediocre... Absolutely nothing special. I usually love sweet potato fries and theirs had way too much starch coating (used to make fries crispy sometimes) it took away from natural flavor. Kobe burger tasted very good... But its a burger... Like i said very average place. We did not have alcoholic drinks so i cant comment on that. Free soda refills were appreciated. TV was also great to watch a Yankee game.
Great outdoor seating!
Meal was good! However burger is usually served with French fries. I substituted fresh vegetables and had to pay $4 more even though the price for side of fresh vegetables or French fries are are the same price. There should not be a substitute fee if price is same.
Met several high school friends for a mini 34th reunion!! Great time!!
Good midtown bar for a weekday sporting event... if you just need to grab a drink and some better-than-normal bar food after work (March Madness, NBA, NHL, etc.) in the midtown area, this is a solid choice.
Good time here
My husband and I went so he could enjoy the games and I could get a good cocktail. The food was wonderful and our server was extremely nice and helpful. Would for sure recommend to my friends.
Quiet as it's not your typical sports bar. Watched playoff football with a large crowd and enjoyed the fact the noise wasn't deafening.
Best service and best wings in NYC! This place never fails, consistentnin all aspects and always have the best games on!
Service was great, food was delicious! We will definitely come again the next time we are in New York City.
Great place great food. Odd mix between fancy and a sports bar. You'd expect lower prices for a sports bar but the food was phenomenal. Best lobster ravs I've ever had.
Great sports bar atmosphere - and the filet mignon sliders were terrific. Great service and lots of TVs to be able to see the game from any angle.
Good casual setting at a fair price. Not too busy when there and service good.
Great place to watch a game. Food is okay. Service is stretched and challenged. Overall, wouldn't go without a game to watch....but would suffer slightly through service to see a game.
Decent bar to grab a bite to eat if you want to catch a game
Decent place. Nice sidewalk tables. Hostess seems confused when I said I had a reservation through open table
Food was great, noise was adequate to watching the final 4 basketball game. We had a great time
We went here with a large group to watch NCAA basketball and NCAA wrestling, as Ashton's has dozens of big screen TVs. The noise level was appropriate for a sports bar during the tournament, same for ambience.
Service was incredibly spotty, however, with two waiters manning the floor and one bartender. A hostess was on the floor but did not participate in anything other than seating guests. At one point, we asked that 1 television be turned to ESPN and so we could watch NCAA Wrestling finals, and were given a bit of attitude about the request. Meanwhile most of the other patrons had left the restaurant after the finish of a college basketball game. Just seemed strange that a sports bar staff member treated our request as though we asked to put on a soap opera or something non-sporty. Whatever.
Would not return here unless absolutely necessary … It is a loud, casual sports bar in midtown, but their food and service should step up a notch to make people want to come back.
My fiancee and I went there to get a late dinner since it was near our hotel. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, and the food wasn't terrible but it was only average and was the same quality if I was to make it. The price did not match the quality. The atmosphere was a little odd as well, since it was somewhat sports bar themed, but only half the televisions had sports on them and not much sports decor was up. I favor more heavily on customer service so I wold return, but only for a drink and maybe an appetizer next time.
Great host and server, attentive staff. Food was delicious. Arrived 10 minutes before open time and was allowed to be seated. Celebrated my bday with gfs and they all enjoyed the food. Next time will opt for $25 unlimited mimosas!
We love to come here for a casual lunch or dinner. The restaurant is always a pleasant place to relax, the menu is diverse and filled with delicious comfort foods. It is also a great place for a casual business lunch. Lots of TVs if you're a sports fan.
Ashton's is a bar feel, yet it manages to convert to an upscale sports bar. I really like the atmosphere. The place is so big and depending on the time you get there, it can be noisy, but never so much that shouting has to be resorted to in order to be heard. The food is delicious. The service is excellent.
