Ashten's Ratings and Reviews
Valentines dinner with my husband of 34 years. Have been to ashton’s Many times and always enjoy our evening. We were not disappointed. The only thing-we were seated in the basement. A room we didn’t even know existed. It appeared as an add on to accommodate the extra diners. Otherwise everything was great.
This was my first visit to Ashten's and I had high expectations. The food and service were very good. My only disappointment was out seating. The "main" dining room is lovely but the entry door and hostess station were next to our table. The hostess answers the phone there and greets guests. All that activity was a bit disruptive; however, once I adjusted to it and had one of their special cocktails, I was able to relax and enjoy the meal. The corn flake crusted crab cake was delicious and the salad on which it was served was fresh and flavorful. I will go back but I'm going to request a table in the bar. There's also a dining room and speakeasy in the basement.
We had an exceptional meal. What a treat to find this restaurant so close to where we live. Since this was our first time there and we were curious about the other dining spaces available, our waitress gave us a tour after our meal. This will definitely become one of our favorite dining places!
Had the same meal last two times and LOVED it (duck w/fried rice), although I was a little disappointed that the menu hadn't changed much since I was last there in early December. Our server was adequate, not great which has historically been my biggest issue with the restaurant. Last two times, Valerie took care of my table and was EXCELLENT. I didn't see her that evening so hopefully, she hasn't moved on.
Lastly, I think a major make-over is due. The main dining area is too formal, and if you sit on the casual side, you're on the couches (uncomfortable) or at a table with no privacy. Also, 4 seats at the bar is not enough.
It was NYE, so I suppose they were extra busy, however our food, wreckfish, came out raw....unintentionally so. There were multiple tables I observed sending their food back as well....mostly because their main course was very under cooked. I was very surprised by this experience as Ashtens does have a good reputation.
Our reservation was honored and we were seated promptly. The waitress was also prompt and took good care of us without hovering. I had the lollipop lamb chops and they we small and quite rare. They were served on a small portion of whipped sweet potato, which were good and a small serving of green beans, that were cold. We were never offered any bread, in fact I did not realize bread was available until I saw it being offered to others.
Service was good, not to impressed with the food.
This last visit was to celebrate my wife's birthday. About a month ago we visited and she had the salmon cooked in coconut milk which she loved and wanted to re-order. Still on the menu but not prepared that way because some customers complained the salmon wasn't hot enough. Nonetheless she ordered salmon anyway and it was delicious. I had the trout which was also quite good. Much bigger trout than I ever caught. She had the salad while I had the crab cake prior to the meal. Nice remoulade sauce with the crab cake. She had the chocolate, caramel cake for dessert which was very nice.
The food was good. We went on Thursday, December 29 and there were five us. The service was slower then I would have thought and given that it was cold that night, it was very chilly in the restaurant. Several tables, including ours, had people still wearing coats. I would recommend the Reuben Rolls. We all enjoyed them. Also, the fish and chips were very good.
Our order was incorrect but our server was nice and the ambiance is always good. By the time my correct food came out the other person was done eating so I got it to go. Unfortunately they didn’t include any of the side items in the to go. So it was just a plain burger. His order was also wrong but not corrected. She gave us free dessert to “make up” for the incorrect order but really it should have been fixed all around.
We always enjoy the menu but can’t understand why Ashten’s maintains the “funeral parlor” main dining room. The pub is the soul of the restaurant. We were seated in the main dining room tonight and did not enjoy the experience although the selections ordered were very good. When placing a reservation, customers should be given the option of pub or funeral room.
My wife and I visited Ashten's for the first time this week. The atmosphere was great for a quiet dinner for just the two of us. We sat in the downstairs dinning room. The tables were a little tight, but the ambiance was great. Overall the food was good. My only complaint was the roasted duck I ordered was a little dry, but nothing to the point I would not return. All other aspects of our meals were great. Will return again in the future.
The salmon in coconut milk was absolutely fabulous. My wife has the tomato bisque soup and it was also outstanding. My son had crispy duck and he really liked it as well. I don't normally eat salmon but I also ordered it and was extremely pleased with it. I couldn't imagine how coconut and salmon would go together but I would definitely have this again. Overall a very nice dining experience.
The overall experience was nice and quiet. I had the trout and it was delicious. My wife ordered the duck and it was crispy and dry to the point of being uneatable. The prices were a little high but given the ambience and being able to hold a conversation without yelling made up for that.
As always, very, very good. Menu changes often so this time we got different dishes. The hummus flatbread was excellent. My husband really liked the salmon, saying you could really taste the fish and that's what he likes. I had the braised pork, which was a lot like a pot roast. I liked it well enough but would not order it again b/c it was too rich for me. The drinks were wonderful as usual.
