Asado Ratings and Reviews
My experience at Asado was good, I would rate it as 3.5 out of 5. I visited with a friend on her birthday, on a Tuesday evening. Our reservation was for 7p, but due to traffic on I-5 we were late. Staff was understanding and held our table until 7:15, when we arrived. Overall, food was good and service was great. Ambience was little loud, making it difficult to have a conversation across the table without raising your voice. Their bread and cheese were good, and the Caesar-salad for an entree was delicious. Our main course arrived shortly after we finished the entree, and staff visited our table frequently. After the meal, we opted for ice-cream and it was amazing. Overall, good experience and I would revisit, but only during happy hour.
This was our second visit and it was outstanding once more. The meat is the star here, cooked over an open mesquite fire. The sides complement the entrees nicely. I had the sirloin and my partner had the mixed grill. Everything was done to perfection.
We wrapped it up with crème brulee . Perfect.
This evening the team seemed a bit off. Cocktails weren’t great (mixed poorly). The steak was dry and a bit charred on one side. It was a shame because it was New Years Eve. This place has been amazing in the past but it seemed as though they let the ‘A’ take the night off.
I was very disappointed that we had to wait for 20 minutes when we were on time for our OpenTable reservation with a minute to spare.
After reading Yelp reviews it seems apparent that the restaurant’s own success is impeding it’s continuing progress. Unless they address this they will fail.
Food was good, ambiance fair average, service okay, but attentive — but being told three or four times to go to the bar when it was clear that our reservation was for 8 pm was amateur.
As usual the food and service were exceptional, however I have to comment that for a steak restaurant our steak knives were so dull we could barely cut the steak. We requested new ones from our server and they were equally was dull. This was my boyfriend's first time here and he ordered the 12 oz lomo at $49. When he was having to saw and pulverize the meat just to get a bit it definitely left an undesirable impression in his mind. We will be back but I hope they take some time to sharpen their utensils.
While the food was excellent the service was abizmal! I found myself resentful of even the 15% tip that I left.
Details: We arrived around 7pm Christmas eve to celebrate my sweeties birthday. We were greeted and seated right away. Things went down hill from there. We waited a bit longer than ideal, 5-7 minutes before we were given water and bread. We chose our food and wine and commented to each other about the time and hoped that we weren't forgotten. We then waited a full 20 minutes more for the server to return and have our wine and food order taken, a full 30 minutes after we were seated. Conversation had become focused on the poor service, with comments about "at least we should have our wine". Our server offered no explanation or apology for the delay.
When mentioning this the next day, to family members who have worked in fine restaurants, they indicated that it was indeed extremely poor service and wouldn't be acceptable on their watch.
The service was extremely slow. For a dinner for 3 with no apps or dessert it took 3 hours. The price was way too high for the quality and flavor of the food. I paid $49 for a steak, side salad and mashed potatoes, and the potatoes had uncooked lumps of potato in them. My mom's mixed grill was overcooked and dry and the broccolini was roasted to the point of being woody and fibrous. Overall disappointing. I paid over $200 for a mediocre experience. I don't think it should cost more just because a bearded dude with tattoos and gauged ears cooked the food, or that the restaurant is in a super tiny suite in an old building. That's not trendy, it's pretentious and douchey.
We came here with friends (4 of us total), two of us had steak, a pasta and a vegan meal. All the food was wonderful and we had 2 really good bottles of wine. Our service was great, she was very knowledgeable on the wine offerings and was very helpful with the food menu options. We will definitely be going back soon.
Wanted to try Asado after a friend recommended. Dimly lit restaurant and pretty crowded, but got seated with our reservation quickly. Water and bread brought over immediately to us. Waitress was quick and attentive. We ordered a few beers (limited tap selection). Ordered chorizo crab cakes, they weren’t the norm. Had good flavor and spice along with the aioli drizzle. I ordered the pork belly plate, my husband chose the 12 oz tenderloin ($49).
They arrived and I found my pork belly to be a bit on the dry side, I also found a small piece of hair in the food. I was pretty turned off by that, but hey, it happens. My husband asked for blue rare, i assume it was cooked to the standard they allow. But nothing over the top for such pricey food. Desserts chosen were a peppermint creme brulee, we weren’t fans. The other was a soufflé chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, now this was AMAZING. Overall the wait staff did a superb job, but the food just didn’t stack up. Total bill with tip was $158, that includes 3 beers. One time there is enough for us.
I ordered the chicken picata and it was the furthest thing from that I have ever had. There was no creamy lemon/wine/butter/caper sauce, and the chicken breast was pastey and flavorless. Although the waiter said it was cooked in all these things I couldn't detect one flavor of any of it. The asparagus was woody and stringy. Clearly I didn't eat but a couple bites but no one seemed to notice.
The wine was good. I had the calamari for an appetizer which was tasty but not crispy like it should be, instead, was floppy and a bit soggy.
All in all I was super dissapointed in meal.
Enjoyed a very nice dinner for three friends on a Monday evening. Conversation was easy (not always the case here) and the food was excellent. We all had beef, each prepared differently. I look forward to returning on another week night when the ambiance is pleasant. The food and service are outstanding.
We returned to Asado after having a stellar first experience. This date? Not so much. Had a reservation. We waited more than 20 minutes to be seated. I know...popular place...unavoidable. It should be noted that one might wait for your pre-reserved table...a problem with new booking system. But that was all easy to overlook.
We ordered. We ate. Then our bill came.
It was off on 50% of the menu choices, okay in fairness, 2 of the 4 items. When I inquired to the hostess, she took it to the manager on duty to which we received this explanation, "I'm sorry. We discovered the mistake on the menu LAST NIGHT and overlooked changing the menu."
Uh, I'm sorry. So, you left a mistake on your menu that resulted in a customer being charged $32 instead of $25 and an entire business day later, at the end of an evening, you're still charging a different price than what's on the menu?
If you don't have a printer, the cost of a sharpy is far less than two customers who were incredibly put off by the dismissive attitude about that item. But that's not all. My wife and I ordered two sets of identical cocktails -- she had a Manhatten; me an Old Fashioned. We were not asked what bourbon to use so assumed the well choice. But when our bill arrived, not only were we overcharged for the $25 entree, but we were charged two different prices for two identical cocktails.
This was not about the finances of it. We just happened to look at the bill and catch the mistake. What it is about, however, is an ambiance of integrity and trust. Questions arose between us like "How many people ordered that dish and were charged incorrectly?" and "How many people didn't look that closely at their bill and it went unnoticed?"
Paired with the manager's indifference, once is too many for us. We won't be back. We won't recommend it. It's a shame because the food is fantastic and most of the wait staff and hostesses were kind, attentive, and unfortunately paid the cost of the manager's poor behavior.
We wanted to try a new (to us) restaurant. The place is small, tables are packed in there, it is rather loud ~ we were ok with that. Had the crab cakes for a starter-these were tasty. I️ had the lamb shank, this dish made me decide to probably not come again. It wasn’t cooked long enough to be a pricey piece of meat/dish. Forgot what my husband had, it had pork, he liked what he ordered. Service was great.
