Artu was founded on the most basic Italian technique, great ingredients, simply prepared, that is what Artu is all about.
In February of 1992 Artu opened its doors to the world, starting with outstanding sandwiches and mouth watering roasted meats, we continued to evolve and grow. Since then we have steadily added to our repertoire. From those sandwiches and roasted meats, we have produced old-world comfort food dishes to current interpretations of those classics that still make the most discerning eater reminisce of their childhood.

Artu Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation for 6, arrived early and waited at the busy bar which the hostess knew. I tried to check in with her but it was so busy I could not find her and then when I went up to the desk she said our table had been ready early but she couldn't find me... We were seated next to a very loud table and the lighting was way to dark.
Very Italian without being formulaic. A bit noisy and hard to have a conversation but not any worse than anywhere else. Service was excellent from the front door to the servers. We arrived early for our reservation and we were accommodated. Definitely would go back.
The scallop appetizer plate was delicious. We almost ordered a second plate for the main meal. The chicken parmesan plate was large portion and tasty. The chicken marsala was ok. I've had tastier sauce. The spicy pork plate was good as expected. The service at Artu was excellent, very attentive and accommodating. We had a reservation, but due to unexpected delays with the MBTA, we were going to be late. We called Artu and let them know we would be about 25 minutes late. They said they would hold our table. We actually ended up being 50 minutes late, but Artu still had a table ready for us immediately. We were very happily surprised that they held our table that long. Great restaurant overall.
Service was very friendly, and excellent. Food was good, but I had the Shrimp scampi linguini, and I thought it would have had more flavor. The shrimp was good, but the pasta was pretty bland. My dad had the chicken marsala, and LOVED it. We were visiting my daughter for Parent's Weekend. I would probably go back.
There are 130 small Italian restaurants in Bostons north end. Amazing but true. This one is excellent.
Menu has the standby pastas but also innovative fish and meat dishes. The pasta sauces are very flavorful without being too spicy. Prices are mostly moderate. Excellent wine list with good choices in less expensive range. Noisy snd lively but not too loud. Popular with locals. We were tourists and hope to return.
Food was delicious and service was excellent. I was impressed because Artu is such a busy place, but we had an attentive waitress and excellent service, and we were not lost in the crowd. We all enjoyed the food, and there were so many great choices. Also, I made reservations on-line, then changed the time and number in our group, twice. Artu was very nice about the changes, and I really liked that they actually called me to confirm our reservations. Finally, the atmosphere was lively & enthusiastic. I recommend Artu & would definitely eat here again.
Artu's was the perfect spot for our business meal in the North End of Boston. I am gluten free and was extremely satisfied with a tasty meal and everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. Good food, great atmosphere, and I ate more than I probably should have (Basically ordered 2 dishes and a side of sausage), but it was well worth it!!
The food and service were excellent. The restaurant is small and on the noisy side, but the kind of place where you feel comfortable and at home. There was a nice bar where you enter the restaurant, but we went directly to our table. Artu is in the middle of the older part of the North End, so expect a rustic look to the restaurant which is part of its charm. The value was good, and I would absolutely eat here again.
Great find if you are in the city of Boston where there are many restaurants that you can choose from especially in the North End. In my opinion more of Southern Italian Affair great staff great attention to details without being overbearing definitely a visit to again
This was a mediocre italian restaurant at best. For being in the North End it was incredibly disappointing--- almost every other restaurant I've been to in that neighborhood as been amazing italian food. Light, tasty, on par with italy. This one was uppity and my gnocchi was not good at all. My coworker got the same thing and was disappointed. My other coworkers thought their food was fine but certainly not representative of what you can get in Boston's North End.
Without question, the most underrated restaurant in the North End - my absolute favorite. The drink menu is excellent - the strawberry-infused tequila is absolutely amazing and the berry lemonade is a close second. The menu offers multiple selections and isn't overwhelming. You MUST get the rice and bean soup to start!!! I tend to get the tagliatelle bolognese - fresh pasta with incredible meat ragu. The gnocchi is also incredible. You really can't go wrong here. My girlfriend and I tend to go on Sunday nights - Prudy is one of the servers who will make you laugh and give you a true Italian experience - reminds me exactly of my grandmother - energy, spunk, and sarcasm - doesn't get any better!!!
While the service was exceptional and the portions plentiful, the food quality was disappointing and not up to other Italian restaurants in its price range. The bread was cold and plain, served with butter and not olive oil, the Caeser salad dressing was heavy, the Caprese salad was pedestrian, the short rib ravioli, in a very thin light wine sauce vs. a more traditional expectation of robust, was not described well on the menu. The pork medallions were the positive exception. We did not stay for dessert. Finally, the room temperature varied greatly throughout the restauarant and we were unfortunately seated in a warm spot. We would not return.
Artu was an amazing stroke of luck in our experiment in North End dining on this trip to Boston. We read many glowing reviews by others, but to experience the unique flavors and quality of Artu's menu created a night to savor and remember. The Tutti de mare was terrific but the Eggplant Parmesan was out of this world! For years I have worked on perfecting my own version of this dish and now I know how it was always meant to be prepared. Also, Juan's attentive and personable service added to our enjoyment of the evening. When we made a suggestion to him to improve the Caesar Salad, he was truly appreciative of the input and passed it along to the kitchen. So go to Artu's and you won't be disappointed.
