About Artisans at the Lake Placid Lodge
Artisans is an intimate, warm, and cozy fire-lit restaurant that extends out to the Lodge’s wide covered porches in fine weather. The dedicated culinary team offers a full menu based on farm to table cuisine. The cuisine is seasonally inspired and New American in tradition, but voyages wonderfully and mysteriously into the world beyond. The Lodge has an exceptional wine collection that ranges from the modest to the illustrious.
Artisans is open to the public, and seating is limited, so reservations are highly recommended. Dining room service begins each evening at 6pm. Children over the age of twelve are welcome at the Lake Placid Lodge.

My husband and I visited Lake Placid for the first time in early February. The temperature outside was in the single digits, but Artisans was cozy and comfortable inside. The hostess and server were very friendly and helpful. We had bundled up against the cold, so we may have overwhelmed the hostess with coats, hats, scarves, and one pair of boots. We found them later in the coatroom piled in a corner. We settled into our table, and admired the Adirondack decor, which may be the most luxurious that decor could be. Lighting was low, but adequate, and there were fresh flowers and a lit candle on the table. Fires burned in several hearths.
The food was imaginative and delicious. I highly recommend the lobster bisque appetizer. My husband and I both had the duck breast entree, which arrived medium-rare as requested, and was presented beautifully. The duck was accompanied by a variety of small-cut roasted root vegetables, and a madeira sauce - excellent!
The wine list was extensive, the cocktails were perfect, and our shared pear tart dessert with homemade cardamom ice cream was delightful. We would definitely go back.
We had a problem at our arrival and almost left due to some issues not our fault, but it was late and being hungry we stayed and our server Jose was fabulous. The hostesses were less accommodating which turned us off completely !!!
Worth going though if you want a tasting menu only with wine pairing .
Great food with creative items. Our server was the chef/owner's daughter and delighted us with the home's history. She and her sister painted the beautiful artwork throughout the rooms. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It's a little hard to find the first time.
We can't say enough about our Artisans experience! The view from the porch is spectacular along with the beautiful tables, fireplace and availability of heaters, although not needed last night. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and discrete. We ordered the tasting menu and the courses were beautifully presented, innovative and seasonal. The mix of flavors were unusual and intense but blended perfectly. The chef, Mark, has a talent for making beautiful, delicious food without it feeling stuffy. The wine list is extensive and our server went out of her way to find just the right wine. We look forward to our next dinner there.
My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Artisans last year, but were quite disappointed this time. We were left wondering if they changed chefs. The view of the lake is still amazing, but the food was not great and the presentations were no longer exceptional. The crab leg appetizer missed the spot, coming out as a heavy tempura. The fish was rubbery, and the chocolate torte was an overly rich slab of chocolate. It is way too expensive for an average meal, even if it is a great atmosphere.
Very disappointed. Would not recomend it for the following reason. The menu was different than what was listed on Open Table. The amuse bouche was the best tasting item served all night. The poached egg was overcooked almost hard boiled. The fish was slightly overcooked. The sides with the fish were ok. The view is amazing, but the food is not worth it. The servers don't know the difference between raisins and cranberries, told us we were given raisin bread when it was cranberry bread. Additionally, it seems they don't know the differnce between habanero and ginger as they tried to convince us that the sharp taste in the tartare was ginger not habanero - even though it was green. Unfortunately, everything went from the good amuse bouche to pretty bad including finding plastic in the chocolate. After this experience I will not come back, even though I have eaten here in the past. It's a shame, because it's a really nice place.
tucked away from the more busy Mirror Lake in the residential Lake Placid area, the restaurant is situated at lakeside level in the charming Lake Placid lodge. we arrived early before the restaurant started serving and they accommodate us by sitting us in 5 minutes and a drink menu. the cocktails are delicious and wine choice are plentiful enough to go with their wonderful food. our service, Britney, has great recommendation on the dishes. I had a vegetable platter appetizer and a very delicious duck entree. my dining partner had the tasting menu of tuna tartar (a bit on the small side), pork cheek second course and the wild boar entree follow by the chocolate dessert course. I end my meal with a wonderful cup of hot chocolate using their home blend coca powder. we left our ipad behind as we are departing and within a few minutes got a call from the restaurant and we retrieved it safe and sound from the maitre d desk. they also have kids menu. we have two other tables with well behaved kids
We've stayed at The Lake Placid Lodge a few years ago and and had several wonderful experiences at the restaurant, but this time we had stayed somewhere else but came for dinner. The overall feel of the restaurant is still luxurious, with wonderful wood carving and distinctive decor, and a dark and sedate ambience. We opted for a meal rather than the tasting menu, and although we enjoyed our food - my spouse had the harvest salad and halibut entree, and I had the field greens & boar entree - nothing was perfect, merely okay. It ended on a finer note, the s'mores dessert being very good. The service was attentive and accommodating, and although we have had better service, it seemed a bit lackluster.
The service was pretty decent. The food was alright for the price. The dinner with wine pairing for three course menu was 135 per person. The food was strictly ok. For that price you will get much better option. My lamb chops were very salty and not well plated. My husband had better luck with ravioli.
Anniversary dinner, greeted by name and offered champagne - very nice start. Service for the first 90 minutes was attentive, then we felt ignored for long stretches - time between appetizer and main course was about an hour, then we waited again to place a dessert order. (Almost 3 hours altogether, by which time my companion was falling asleep.) $250 with gratuity. The amuse-bouche, whimsical appetizers, and soup were outstanding; the bread, main course, and dessert would have been very good at a less high-end restaurant, but weren't at the level the meal started at.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at Artisan's for dinner last weekend. We were greeted warmly upon arriving and seated right away, and our waitstaff was very attentive and friendly...they couldn't have been nicer! The food was delicious and beautifully plated, and was served in a timely manner...we never had to wait longer than a normal pause between courses. We look forward to coming back when we are in the area again!
The Artisan is lovely restaurant with an amazing view. You can't help but feel spoiled. The food was presented beautifully. The wait staff was attentive but not overly so. My only criticism is the food and the wine is overpriced. It just is. If money is no object, then this is a great place to go. I would not return only because of the cost. With that said, we still had a wonderful time and experience.
We went all in with the 4 course meal. If you add bread and some free tastes it ends up an 8 course feast. Meal was well paced and delicious. Our only hesitation was portion size. Thankfully the portions were substantial throughout. Some chefs serve 2 oz main courses for foodie types. This was a meal. I had snapper. Very nice. Enjoyed a local John Brown IPA too. Great views. Comfortable atmosphere. Cost is steep at 300 with tip so be ready but go. All our conversations with staff were pleasant. Great place.
We have eaten at Artisans at the Lake Placid Lodge in the past and have always had a wonderful experience. The setting, overlooking Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain is spectacular, especially if one can dine outdoors on a beautiful summer evening. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by our last meal there. The setting was as amazing as ever and the weather cooperated, but the service and food were not anywhere near the same level as we experienced in the past. The service was very, very slow and poorly timed. 2 hours after we were seated we had only been served drinks and appetizers! There were hits and misses with the food. I felt my appetizer, Persephone's Harvest, looked very nice but was meager. We were disappointed to learn that the meats we ordered were imported from New Zealand. My husband's venison chop was great, but I thought my duck was mediocre. I am hoping that perhaps we hit Artisans on an off night, but would be reluctant to go back since it is not inexpensive to dine there. I would expect more from a Relais and Chateau property.
While the plate is wonderfully presented I expected more from the food.
Service was excellent and the staff is very nice but can be too present at times.
Ambiance, decor and view are excellent.
Wine list is substantial and very nicely presented.
While the food didn't live up to the bill, everything else did.
