My husband and I first visited Artisans in 2012 and had a wonderful experience. Before our recent return, I had read some unflattering reviews and was second-guessing our plans. I am so glad that we followed through: it was, perhaps, even better than the first time. We visited with friends, and they thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The food was innovative and delicious, portions were quite generous, the ambiance is unbeatable, and our server, José, was a gem! We can’t wait to return.
One of my favorite restaurants when I come to visit Lake Placid. Delicious menu. A bit pricey but worth the splurge.
Disappointing service. Food was good. Wine list was outrageously overpriced. Went here to celebrate a milestone birthday. I called the restaurant to inform them of the birthday and there was only a verbal recognition upon sitting. After dinner when normally ordering a dessert I expect to have a candle at the minimum if not somehow stating Happy birthday on the plate. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t expect any singing, in fact I’m not a fan of such at a high end restaurant. I expect an elegant recognition of the celebration. Upon bring my disappointment to the manager who was at least saying the right things the waitress then came out and have a half hearted apology. I will never return again
No one else there. Midweek. Food was disappointing. Ambiance is not as nice as I remember. Nothing special at all. And the pancakes that they boast about at Lake Placid Lodge for bkfst are awful: too thick, undercooked, and horribly doughy. Yuck.
We got engaged here a year ago and we went back for our one year anniversary. Once again they didn’t disappoint us. Everything was first class. JENNIFER our server was amazing. Very sweet and Attentive. She was actually our waitress a year ago and remembered us. I def recommend this place and will continue to eat here every time we visit Lake Placid!!
We were very excited about dining at your restaurant. There were many things that we loved about our experience. The wine selection was great. Our appetizers were delicious. We shared the foie gras and oysters - the best of each that we’ve ever had. When our meal came out, the presentation was beautiful. We had the halibut special and the scallops from the menu. Both were very overdone. We were really disappointed. The sides that we ordered, we enjoyed very much. The server was great as well. Overall good experience, we were just disappointed with our main courses.
A+++++food, service, atmosphere, cozy ambiance and just overall the best experience.
We eloped to the Lake Placid Lodge...incredible!
Recommend this restaurant to everyone. Most beautiful views, elegant setting with exceptional food. Staff is amazing
Excellent food in an amazing setting. We had dinner at sunset on the porch overlooking the lake. They lower clear plastic curtains in cold weather, which along with overhead heaters and a wood fire and wool blankets makes for a comfortable dinner experience. Pea soup is excellent, though very rich and filling. Halibut portion size was small but worked well with the overall meal. If getting apps, consider sharing an entree and adding side dishes.
Beautiful view of the lake!
An amazing, peaceful setting! Incredible food & service!
We have been going here for years and the food is not good now. I love the ambience and being outside on the porch but it is so disappointing to spend do much money and not have a dood meal.
We chose Artisan's to celebrate our anniversary. The evening was beautiful, and we sat on the deck overlooking the lake. Service was prompt and efficient, but we were never rushed. The meal did not disappoint, and we had a wonderful evening.
We were looking forward a meal at Artisans based on recommendations from locals from our home town. The setting is beautiful, but the rest was a real disappointment. Service was overall lackluster with a clear class system that leaves guests not staying at the hotel in the lurch. We were seated 20 minutes after arrival despite lot’s of available tables and then given an undesirable spot until we complained. The heirloom tomato salad had hot house tomatoes that could be found in any grocery store. When we commented the waiter brought out a dish a beautiful heirlooms and tried to make us believe they had been served at our table. The chicken was dry and over salted; the intermezzo was so bitter it rendered our wine undrinkable. This was one of the most disappointing and offensive meals in our 20 years of enjoying fine dining together. Highly recommend you come enjoy the view and eat elsewhere!
Bait and switch. The menu on Open Table is the bar menu. Would not have gone knowing the limited dinner menu. Food and service was very good. Too upscale for what we were looking for at the time.
Everything was great, but the food service was very slow
Wait staff appeared inexperienced and inattentive. Oysters were minuscule. New format steak house style menu more expensive than in past. Still. Food is well prepared and you can’t beat the view.
SO BAD. Were seated shortly after 7pm. A few min after 9 we asked if our entrees were coming any time soon. Were told they had a busy 14 top. Not sure what that had to do with where our entrees were - most of the restaurant was EMPTY (now understand why). When we finally got up and walked out it took 15 min for them to get our bill and run our card for the drinks & appetizers. Horde of people at check in desk when we left. So many upset people. Never coming back. At bar now trying to get food to go before have to relieve sitter at 10pm. Ugh.
Great scenery and solid service. Food could have been a bit better overall, though. Lovely evening out by the lake.
Our meal was amazing. The filet minion was the best I have ever had. The service was exceptional. We will definitely be back!!
We thoroughly enjoyed everything, and will definitely be back!!
extraordinary 50th birthday celebration for both my partner and me.
Everything was excellent from customer service to quality of food.
Perfect! The interior was very intimate and lovely. We would have loved to sit on the outdoor patio overlooking the lake, but June this year has been cold and rainy, so sitting outside wasn't an option. The amuse bouche of an escargot and toast point was an unexpected treat, as were the truffles at the end of the meal. One server who may have been new misunderstood my request to box up my leftover filet mignon, and instead she discarded it; the manager apologized profusely, and they sent me home with a new order. Definitely appreciated them making this right. The filet and my husband's salmon entree were both great. Nice wine list.
Food was very good and very well presented. Service was good. Pricing was on the higher side but it was a high end place and we went in with that expectation and it didn’t disappoint. Would be fun to sit outside with better weather.
The food was NOT good. My steak was over cooked and for $50+ I expected an amazing cut of meat... not the case. The pea soup was watery and had no taste. The service and view, however, were excellent. This is a place to go for the experience of the beautiful setting, but expect to pay an exhorbitant price for a mediocre meal.
The service and ambiance were both very nice, however the food was without any seasoning and ultimately very disappointing. We are comfortable with dining in expensive venues providing the cuisine lives up to the price. We left disappointed and utterly baffled. A $500 dinner for 4 people (with only 4 glasses of wine) should have knocked our socks off. During the following week, as we dined at the far superior INTERLACKEN INN & TOP OP OF THE PARK, we could not help but reflect on our mediocre dining experience. We chose Artisans after having an excellent meal in Maggie’s Pub directly across the lounge.
Poor service considering the price point. Outstanding wine list but the staff did not know how to deliver it.
Lovely local experience
Excellent service Jose! Chilean sea bass was both delectable and a generous portion. Duck was about an 8 out of 10. Which with the exception of The French Laundry is the highest rating I can give and compared to the once renowned Alain Ducasse which sank from a 10 to a 5 recently.
Lovely place to dine!
We will repeat visitors… Very disappointed in the lack of menu items that they advertise… For example we had a shrimp instead of lobster in our lobster bisque.
Was not impressed with this restaurant, very over priced. Food was ok, but nothing special.
Went for a baby moon date with my husband as part of our Lake Placid weekend. It was wonderful, just expensive. I love the atmosphere and food there and had an amazing night. It’s definitely a place to go for a special occasion.
Delicious!!! Pricey but worth it. Everything we had starting from amuse-bouche through dessert was delicious. Beautiful location. Only the dining room had a strange smell. Moldy cheese maybe? But otherwise lovely experience .
Sick a disappointment. Beautiful facility, great service, romantic ambiance.. Food was expensive which is ok for the restaurant but blah in taste... ordered rare steak but it was tough and over cooked, heavy dressing of a tasteless sauce. I wanted to love it so bad but nothing was even mediocre! ...
I was staying with my girlfriend in Lake Placid for the week. It was her 40th birthday and I wanted to treat her to something really special. Everything about Artisan's was spectacular. I marked on the reservation that it was for a birthday, and the first thing the waiter asked when he arrived at our table was which one of us was celebrating a birthday... Great attention to detail! We were asked about our food preferences and happy to learn that they could accommodate our gluten free diet, including gluten free bread with butter. The food was phenomenal! We split the lobster bisque and it was by far the best I've had. I had the beef tenderloin, it was cooked medium rare to perfection and the flavor was delicious, also probably the best I've had. My girlfriend had the duck, and it was also cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. Both plates were presented beautifully. Our waiter took great care of us and did not rush us through our appetizer even though we probably spent 30 minutes talking while it was on the table. Our dessert was served with a candle and a "happy birthday" written in dark chocolate. In addition to the food, the atmosphere was great for a date, or perhaps even a small wedding, very rustic and romantic. If I'm ever back in Lake Placid and I'm looking to impress someone, or looking for a world class meal, I will come here again.
The name describes the food very well, excellent choice of dishes.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at artisans. The ambience there is spectacular and the service even better. Jen, our server, was attentive and made us feel very welcome. We were even delighted with a champagne toast for our anniversary at the end of our meal. Truly a dining experience not to be missed.
