Artisan Ratings and Reviews
Dined here our first night visiting Paso Robles and it will definitely be at the top of our list to revisit on our next trip! Pate was exceptional, brussel sprouts were some of the best we’ve had and the burrata pizza with chorizo was perfect. Excellent cocktails and wine selection. Service was outstanding - would give more stars for it if I could.
Our vegetarian friend loved the Brussels sprouts. My husband love the slow smoked pork. And my little meatballs with ricotta gnocchi were delicious. I just wish I had a bit more. The desserts were FUN! My favorite was chocolate and churros. Had to share, but didn’t want to.
Great gluten-free version of the grilled chicken sandwich at Sunday brunch! Also enjoyed the sorbet mimosa. Server was attentive, even with a very large party dining nearby. Timed things very well. I would love to see another gluten-free option on the dessert menu. Liked the local representation on the beverage menu.
Service was terrible. We got to the restaurant a little earlier than our reservation and decided to grab a drink at the bar. The bartender didn’t really seem to care that we were there. He asked what we wanted and handed the order off to another bartender who didn’t even get the order right. We decided to take our drinks and go sit in the dining area hoping to get better service. Once we were seated it took 10 min for the waitress to greet us. We only ordered a pizza and a couple glasses of wine. Our pizza came out before the wine! Just not what we expected for all the great reviews we saw online.
The food was ok. I always like the meatballs but it seems as if the portions have gotten smaller. They don't have the wine flights anymore, which I loved. My husband ordered the short ribs and the portion was small and mostly fat. The service is good, prices a little high for what you get though.
Second time coming to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Great suggestions for wine pairings and the food was really incredible - just the right amount of spicing (like a hint of fresh ginger with the wild boar) was really masterful. Alex just nailed it. Perfect portion sizes and friendly waitstaff.
We went here for New Year’s Eve and while this place was a bit more casual than the New Years dinner I had envisioned, the food was great, our server was lovely and the service was very good. Didn’t much care for the ambiance of some of the other diners. Get the Brussels sprouts!
We were not as impressed with Artisan this year. We came for the first time last New Years and LOVED IT so came back this year. The menu had changed, different owners and different chef. Not as good as last year. Waitress wasn’t happy, food was ok but really expensive for what we got. Probably won’t come back.
This was our second time eating at Artisan and it did not disappoint. The chicken was moist and delicious - and the cherries gave it such a distinct flavor - the gnocchi and meatballs were superb, the smoked pork like butter. You can't go wrong at this restaurant.
Still love this place! We only visit Paso once a year, but this restaurant is always a must. I crave the small plates (this time we chose the fondue with bread, sausage and broccoli for dipping), the potatoes and the beyond-amazing brussel sprouts. The men-folk had the meat dishes (one phenomenal hangar steak and one smoked pork dish) and the women split a Portobello mushroom pizza, which was heavenly. The wine list is full of goodies and Paso treats! We brought one wine in from our own stash, and bought one from the wine list, so corkage was waived. Our server was so engaging that we didn't want to leave, as she even held the front door open for us on the way out. Just wish we lived closer.
We had been wine tasting and nibbling all day so we chose to keep it lighter and shareable. This restaurants was perfect for that. Waitress helped with recommendations. Mushroom pizza, pickled beets/goat cheese/truffle oil and meatballs were all delicious. Since we were wined-out, we choose cocktails....cant remember which but do remember we liked them!! Finished off with the yummy butterscotch pudding. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Would definitely go back on our next visit to Paso. Highly recommend.
I was very disappointed coming back a year later to this restaurant, after my first experience here in 2016 was glorious. New owners, lots of changes. They still have the same menu from a year ago on the website so I was really excited, but the actual food and wines have completely changed. Quality of both has dropped. Service was pleasant but unconcerned. A year ago this would have been my top recommendation in the area. Now it’s a solid grade C.
this is the fourth time we have been here. Sometimes for brunch, sometimes for a pizza and beer at the bar and sometimes for a more formal dining. We had a nice dinner, with small bites as we were not too hungry. We had some wine on tip that was good and reasonably prices and we had a martini which was excellenty made. Our favorite was the mushroom toast which was over the top decilius. Alhtough it was crowded at the beginning (reservations at 8:15) we were seated right away and very attentive wait staff.
We were running a little late and I'd had trouble changing our reservation from two people to four on the open table app. They were very accommodating and we were seated immediately. Our server was wonderful. She helped with suggestions, was very attentive yet didn't hover. The ambiance was very nice although the background music seemed a little loud for comfortable conversation although that could have been just the seats we were in. The food choices were diverse and each of us felt that the food was exceptional. Highly recommend.
Server was nice and attentive but very slow to get drinks, so I think the holdup is in the bar. this has been a consistent problem over the four times I've dined here. The cheese plate is tiny for $15 - 3 little slices, 4 pieces of bread, and 2 cornichons (cut in 1/2 - really?) 1 Tbl of honey, and 3 olives. It sets a bad tone for the rest of the meal, which was good but not great.
May wife and I visit the Artisan whenever we are in the Paso Robles area and we had dinner on Saturday night with a life-long friend. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't up to the quality of the Artisan on previous visits and we were all disappointed with the entrees. The service was very good, the noise level wasn't bad, but the food didn't measure up to past visits.
Since we live in Northern California, we don't know if ownership has changed or if there's a different chef. I don't enjoy writing a negative review; however, based on this past visit, the Artisan has gone downhill. That's really too bad because our prior visits for breakfast and dinner were all quite good.
Their system went down which is understandable, but we didn’t have food until and an hour and a half after our reservation and we were the only new table coming in. Their online menu was out of date missing items that we came in specifically for. We had a dietary issue and were told that “the chef doesn’t allow modifications.” The staff was very friendly and I had no compliants about them personally. You can tell the management is completely out of touch and the employees are the ones who have to suffer. There are plenty of places to eat in Paso Robles so take this one off your list if you are considering it. The cost of the meal way outweighs your experience. I recommend the Hatch, Buona Tavola or Fish Gaucho.
