Can't ever figure out why there aren't more people breaking down the door to get in this place. The food, atmosphere and service were outstanding. Must be the industrial location. Don't let that stop you from trying this wonderful restaurant.
The restaurant was really good and the food was great. The restaurant's location seems out of place in a quasi-industrial location. Went on a Saturday at 6:00 pm and the place was empty (we were only guests). Service was fantastic and the waitress was funny and nice. Placed filled up by the time we left.
Nice dim lighting. No loud music. Food is fresh and good. Their menu changes a bit seasonally. Location is a bit strange but don’t let that put you off.
I really wanted to like this place. Food was good but service was really lacking. We had a 5:00pm reservation and they were out of 2/3 of the specials. Only got one round of drinks because waitress never came around. Had to ask for water. Had to ask for bread. Restaurant was 70% full not crowded or overrun. My steak was overdone and the plate was very hot which means that it probably sat under a heat lamp and overcooked. Waitress who took our order auctioned off the food when it came out. Only was a party of four adults. At this price point in the bad part of town I expect that you would have the food and service on a higher level. Food was good but nothing was overly interesting or worth coming back for. I was a waiter for fine dining for four years in college, I know how hard it is so I usually give very generous tips, this was the first time in a very long time I left a small tip.
This was a disappointing meal from cocktails through the main course; we should have turned around when we saw the restaurant was empty at 7:00 on a Friday evening. Specialty cocktails were lackluster. A gin and tonic was ordered with lime juice and there was none in it. When we asked for a shot glass of lime juice, it was clearly lime juice mixed with water. The bread that came to the table was stale and cold, despite the wait staff saying that it was "hot from the oven." The Shishito peppers were tasty, but Caponata was dry and it was served hot, which was not stated on the menu. The seared scallops and grilled salmon were good, but the risotto was bland and although the menu stated asparagus as a side vegetable, they were out of it. The Meditteranean platter looked good, but constituents were highly salted and there were items on the plate not included in the description on the menu such as pignoli nuts on the hummus. Prices are high for a place that is located in an industrial area, Manhattan prices at Hawthorne rents. Definitely will not return.
Empty night, food was fine but ambience is lacking for the price.
Food was good
Small portions/high prices
Wine list is minimal
This was a little off the beaten path for us, but we were so happy we tried it. The food was DELICIOUS!! Everyone loved all 3 courses and we would highly recommend this gem. The service was also great. We will definitely be going back!
Absolute joke. Still seething from a wasted Saturday night....
Everything was wrong with this place. Poor timing with apps and entrees... the food, if you can even call it that, was horrendous. We didn’t even eat our entrees because they were such garbage, but we were still charged for them.
Just. Don’t. Go.
Four of us tried Artisanal Kitchen and Bar for the first time on a recent Saturday night. We made an OpenTable reservation for an early dinner at 6:00. We parked in their lot and were among the first people there; by the time we left things were much more lively and people without reservations were being turned away. We got a warm greeting on arrival, our waitress was knowledgable and attentive and glad to go ask the chef questions about ingredients. The food was uniformly good -- fresh, interesting and delicious. We'd all recommend it and would go again. (The restaurant is upstairs from a live music venue with shows on weekends. We were there for a sound check, which was loud but short. If we had been there later during the show I think dinner would have been a bit less peaceful.)
The service here was great. The food was amazing. The ambience is calm. I had the NY strip steak and it was to die for. Overall, my girlfriend and I had a really enjoyable experience here for our first time. Will be back again!
Nice staff, good food. Had fusilli with shrimp and white wine sauce. It was excellent. What really got me was the awesome Nutella creme brulee!
My husband and I were looking for a dinner spot with a bar before a movie we were seeing in Hawthorne. We had not dined at Artisan Kitchen and Bar before. The food was good, the server and staff friendly. My only complaint was the up charge for my salad. We planned on eating popcorn at the movie so I opted to eat light. For dinner, I ordered a $12 arugala mushroom salad and a side order of truffle fries. When the bill came I was disappointed to see the salad “entree” cost $18. I did not notice language on the menu referencing the up charge, though maybe I missed it. I felt duped and while good, the salad was not worth $18 plus the cost of a side order. I feel the server should have let me know when I ordered that the salad price would be $6 more than listed on the menu.
We left after an hour and fifteen withiut being served any food
Been here several times and always enjoyable although we have only eaten at the bar. Great drinks, food and conversation as bartenders are engaging. Will come back.
Food was good as always. Restaurant looked like they were doing remodeling inside.
My only complaint was that they were out of my favorite beer. We were here on a Saturday night. Food was delicious & presented nicely.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. It was very cozy and enjoyed the food!
Made reservations but when showed up, the restaurant was closed for a private party. Very embarrassing as we were treating our friends, only to be turned away at the door. Why would the restaurant accept reservations through OpenTable if they are actually closed?
Need a better wine selection
We have Artisan a second chance and am glad we did. The food is really terrific and is worth a try. The drinks are good too (try the pink lady) and the food never disappoints. We've had the shisito peppers, calamari, octopus, wedge salad, stir fry, truffle Mac, truffle fries, chicken milanese, pasta bolognese and the Mediterranean chicken. All very very good. Wish the brick oven were open more. And the bread to start is addicting!
I've been here once before and really enjoyed everything. Went back with friends to share the experience. They enjoyed it as much as we do. Great food which is not your run of the mill. Creative and delicious!
They didn't even acknowledge our open table reservation. The service was poor. Our waitress would disappear for he longest time. She never would check in to see if we needed anything. They neglected to indicate on thwir menu or the server mention that one of the meals would take 30 minutes. The food was good but wasn't worth the price. We gave t a try but won't probably be back which is too bad as the food was very good.
Food was fantastic. Chef actually came out to talk with people. Everyone was friendly. Atmosphere was great. Going back in 2 weeks.
This place is in a dicey area of Hawthorne, close to Paterson in an industrial neighborhood, so the outdoor patio doesn't have much of a view. The large restaurant was empty when we arrived at :700 which made us nervous. A few more groups arrived while we were there. Our server was very friendly and gave us her personal recommendations, however, she kept disappearing whenever we needed something. There were so few people in the restaurant, so I don't know why she wasn't more attentive, maybe since it wasn't busy she went into the bar area and kitchen to other things. We didn't have any unusual needs - just wanted to order our dinners, our dessert, get the check, and pay the check. Several times we had to actually get up and look for her. We weren't in a rush, but it turned out we were there almost three hours for dinner. The food was creative and tasty. With cocktails, a few salads, entree specials, and a shared dessert, the bill seemed pricey, but since the food was good, we were satisfied.
Food is always good. The octopus appetizer is delicious, as are the scallops.
When we arrived at the reservation time, there was no hostess and we waited minutes for someone to seat us. Service was very, very slow. We sat for almost an hour before our entree arrived. Wait staff seemed totally confused and never once came to our table to see if we needed anything. What was most upsetting was the fact that it was Mothers Day and I inquired before I made the reservation if this was a sit down or brunch because my wife is vegan and has special dietary needs. They said they could accommodate special orders because this would be the regular menu, not a brunch menu. The menu ended up to be a special limited options menu When we inquired about a meatless dish, no one knew what to do. Finally the bartender came over and told us the chef would prepare something special. It ended up being soggy, wet risotto with a few vegetables thrown in. Unfortunately, this is the third and last time we have gone here and it is the last time. First time, the service was impeccable and food was excellent. Second time, service was slow and food so so. Third time was a complete failure. Never again
This was my first time @ Artisan, the food was excellent and right on spot!! The service was outstanding. The owners, Jeff & Howard both came out and greeted us and asked about our meals. Will definitely be going back with other friends. Thanks for a great dining experience.
The Special Easter Brunch Buffet, that we were looking forward to, did not exist.
I don't know why one was promoted. I should have suspected something, when
only one other table was occupied when we arrived for the non existent buffet.
I wouldn't take my dog here.
It just really wasn't that good. Kids pasta was just ok. And we spent a lot of money for the food/experience.
Great local eating with vegan and gluten free options. Extremely friendly staff, manager, and Chef.
The service was excellent. But the food from appy to desert was fabulous! Not your every day food. Creative! And thank you Open Table for sending me this suggested restaurant in my area! We found a new GEM!
My husband and I are always looking for new local restaurants and decided last minute to try this restaurant. The vibe was cool and our waitress was amazing. Each course was delicious and came out timely and not rushed. The octopus was so delicious as well as our entrees. We recommend you go and give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
Nice restaurant with delicious food, though a bit overpriced for the area. Service was good, though a bit uncoordinated as we had different people serving us and at times it was a bit overbearing. Overall would recommend.
Went for valentine's day. Food was mixed
Service essential very slow
Awesome place! The food is delicious and so are the drinks and service absolutely excellent.
We went with a group of 7 to celebrate a birthday. The bartender was great! Food was good but the service was horrendous!! We waited almost 45 minutes for our meals after our appetizers. Service staff never offered a free drink or dessert! We won't be returning
Food was very good
Service was spotty with long waiting for someone to come to our table
We asked for a Mackenzie rye but waiter first did not know what it was and then said they did not have it -- as we left the restaurant we saw a bottle of it behind the bar.
Staff may need better training
The food was great and the dining room looked nice with curtains to separate a large table behind us. The service was good but could be a little more on the ball like bringing share plates for appetizer and knifes for entrees. Otherwise a great evening .
I had heard the Artisan Kitchen and Bar had outstanding food. The food was terrific. It was creative, fresh, and delicious. I went with a group of ten, and all of us enjoyed the food. The service was mediocre. The waiter got several orders wrong, and forgot one order. Furthermore, it took a long time to get each course (probably in part because of the errors). However, we didn't expect the restaurant at 10:20 to turn off the music and begin turning up the lights as we were finishing our dinner. The craft beer selection is good, interesting, and varied. If you enjoy only light beers, the beer options, however, are not for you. As well, given the fantastic food, it would be great to have a better wine list and better wines by the glass.
