Article One, named for the corresponding article of the U.S. Constitution establishing the structure of Congress, is conveniently situated in the lobby of Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Article One - American Grill Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant menu has a lot of variety and delicious options. I was dining with my parents and we all have different eating styles/preferences. I was able to find a few different dishes I wanted to try and my parents were happy to have options, too.
I arrived promptly on time for my reservation and was greeted immediately. The restaurant is open in the lobby of the hotel, which has vast ceilings and noise was bouncing off the walls. There are no privacy walls for the restaurant so the lobby noise is shared with the restaurant. Open concept.
Our server was on top of it, which is always a great thing. My mom, who is an adamant Diet Coke drinker, did not see the bottom of her glass. My water was constantly filled. Food came out promptly and dishes were cleared quickly upon finishing our food.
The food was delicious and met expectations. Mom had the crab cake sandwich - which the slaw was not a favored addition in her opinion. My dad got the ribeye which was cooked perfectly medium well. And I got the crab Alfredo, which was good and filling. The apple pie a la mode was the dessert of choice to be split, and we were content. It’s a large slice so it was perfect for sharing. No complains about the food but also nothing to rave about.
Overall, I’d come back and try a new dish. I’m happy to know it’s a safe bet for my family and all of our preferences.
This restaurant was great. We loved the food and thought the staff was amazing. All the waiter were incredible, but Dong and Hue stood out. They were all so accommodating and attentive. We would definitely go back for the delicious food and amazing service.
After a morning of exuberant t tours, we were looking for a family friendly lunch. Article One saved the day! We took an uber and we're surprised it was in the Hyatt Hotel but not disappointed. The server and chef were accommodating to our picky eaters. It's off the mall so not as crowded or noisy. It was just what we needed to refresh for the rest of our day.
My wife and I had the breakfast buffet and enjoyed it very much. The price is a little steep for a basic breakfast, but it's more than that. The buffet features an omelet station with several different options, a number of buffet meat and egg choices, plenty of fruits and cereal, and a number of other excellent options.
The service staff were friendly and efficient and we felt we could eat at a comfortable pace.
The place was vacant but extremely noisy being in an open lobby where kids and conference goers were coming and going...
The food took forever which was strange we were the only ones there... And though the waiters were pleasant they were disheveled. It was pretty ridiculous.
I was visiting DC and had some Hyatt Rewards points to use up. Thought I would take my husband out for an early Valentines dinner, and chose American Grill. Points were confusing to use, but they did honor them. The food was delicious but probably a bit high if I were not using reward points. Service, impeccable. Ambiance, maybe for a work gathering or convention group but for a romantic dinner for two, pretty brightly lit and no music, soft romantic or otherwise. I thought even the Hyatt could have had a grand piano playing or p[perhaps a harp in the lobby near the restaurant, but nothing.
We have enjoyed holiday buffets at Article One a number of times, and made a reservation for Christmas Day, 2015. We arrived to discover that there was no buffet, it had been canceled. I must say that my immediate response was annoyance, but that soon faded when we were shown that there was a special menu for the day. To make a long story short, we were treated like royalty, with the chef taking our order personally. It was a great meal, especially the pumpkin soup with apple compote, and the opera torte for desert. Thank you Article One!
We had fantastic service. Even though we ordered the breakfast buffet, our server was attentive and drinks were refilled before we even noticed they were getting low. We all had excellent omelets and a great time. Special thanks to Larry for being so courteous on a Thanksgiving morning.
We were given a private area for our table of 6, and it was very quiet. The service was excellent...very flexible and willing to accommodate. The manager was very sweet and attentive. I asked to bring the rest of my soup home- and the waitress brought me a new container of soup to take home "so it would still be warm." Everyone really enjoyed their meal. I had vegetarian options and the others had steak or fish. We all enjoyed our meals.
I would try to make sure that the hours that you provided for me to reserve a table actually exist.
I reserved on October 24th at 3 pm that was confirmed and when I arrived the hostess was every rude and showed no empathy to the situation of my 2 starving children and stated that the restaurant closes at 3pm.
I tried to speak to the manager who only gave us an option of eating at the bar which did not serve the restaurant menu but only snacks and stated that he would have to have the cook stay overtime.
And you know that saying, " Things happen for a reason", well we ended up eating at the Art and Soul restaurant in the Liason Hotel and it was so delicious and the service was incredible. I recommend the Maple Brine Pork Chop that was simply moist, and my wife absolutely adored the Shrimp and Crawfish Etoufee.
My children have allergies and the staff was so accommodating they devoured the fried chicken and my daughter was so happy to have the mango sorbet after the meal.
It was such a wonderful experience I truly appreciate Chef Art Smith and his staff. I can't wait to come back Washington DC and enjoy this southern comfort food.
Not surprising for a hotel restaurant, but I expected a little better from Hyatt. I had lunch with two friends. We each ordered a sandwich and a soft drink. The bill was $60! Each plate had the sandwich and a small ramekin of some sort of insipid corn and yogurt salad. The plates were not garnished, just the sandwich on the plate. I had the smoked turkey wrap. The wrap tasted ok, although there was way too much bacon on it, but it was rather plain. My friends had the ham and egg sandwich and the club. The service was good - that was the only bright spot.
I started to loose trust on Opentable rating integrity. My wife and I had tickets to a performance at the Kennedy Center and I planned a nice dinner. The restaurant was 4 star and I thought that would do. From the begining it was a disaster. The atmosphere was so bad. I felt like I was at a mall eatery.
The service was terrible. two waiters were almost fighting for our table which should have been a sign for us to leave. The waitress could not describe the food the whole time I was there I wished I could be anywhere else.
In DC with all the nice reataurants I cant see how a restaurant with such a poor quality could stay in business.
As for Open table, I usually rely on the restaurant rating when I pick a restaurant and I am rarely disppointed. This is the first time where the rating of 4 stars is clearly not justified and deceiving.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency March 2014. Had dinner at Article One. I have to say the steak was wonderful and I enjoyed my meal. I was not offered a kids menu for my son so I ordered him the smallest plate I could. He enjoyed it. The Smash fries were excellent. While the food was very good, I think it was overpriced for what you get. But that is DC for you. Staying in a hotel it would have been nice to have options. If you are on a business trip or a couples weekend, this is a good location. Breakfast was excellent and they do offer either menu or buffet.
With a few rare exceptions, hotel restaurants tend to be so-so at best. However, this place was a pleasant surprise. The service was prompt and courteous. The waitress provided helpful and accurate advice when she suggested that we order only one appetizer because it would be large enough to share. The lamb chops were a perfect medium rare and the sauce (I'm not sure what it was) was delicious. My husband also really enjoyed the rockfish. For a side dish, I recommend the "smashed" potatoes. We did not have dessert.
The minor downside is that this place is in a hotel lobby, not far from the front desk and the gift shop. Also, I had a view of the hotel entrance and the up/down escalators. Thus, there is a lot of foot traffic and it can be a bit noisy. Even so, the food and the service make these "downers" easy to overlook. Give it a try!
The fact that this restaurant is in the middle of a hotel lobby was a surprise until I had to look up their website to change a reservation time. I would certainly recommend the food and the service and they were not busy. They were even friendly about changing a reservation time at the last minute. Although once I saw it I could see they probably never really took reservations. It was even relatively quiet, but it still was a shock to be eating a nice meal in the middle of a hotel.
