Arte Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
It is one of the few neighborhood restaurants that doesn't blast you with loud music. It is quiet and civilized and one can actually hear one's dinner companions. The ambience is lovely, too. That said, the food is average and overpriced for what it is. Nevertheless, if you want a place where you can talk, it's fine.
We have eaten at Arte twice before and have enjoyed the food and service. However, our most recent visit for a family dinner was a big disappointment. The service was bad, we had to wait over an hour to be served, and received multiple mixed signals from the wait staff regarding the availability of the food we ordered. It is quite expensive for a mediocre neighborhood restaurant
Greenwich Village has a lot of good restaurants but Arte is a special standout. The service, food & ambience are consistently excellent & never disappoint. We have been coming here for years on average once a week which speaks to the quality of their offering. Friends are always impressed by the service, food & ambience particularly in Autumn/Winter when the 2 open hearth fires are in operation.
Overall I had a good experience. We were (a party 0f 4) there with a Groupon. As soon as the groupon was presented I felt that the service suffered. I know in some establishments the customer will reduce their tip commiserate with the groupon discount on the meal. That however is not how I treat the staff. It is to bad that once again the actions of the few (cheapskates) results in the poor treatment of others.
This was our third visit and we were equally happy. The wine list is ample. The red snapper is divine. The wait staff is helpful, very pleasant, and know when to be available and when to respect our privacy. It was a leisurely, lovely lunch. The tartuffo is out of this world delicious. We were four of us, and were able to have a long chatty meal. There was very quiet music in the background, which set a nice mood but never interfered with our conversation. This is a pretty setting, both indoors and outdoors in their garden. We are looking forward to another visit!
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant and I've been eating here for 25 years. The food is fairly traditional but always good and the servers, some of whom have been there forever, are friendly and efficient. The noise level is almost always very reasonable and the ambience is kind of old world.
Solid waitstaff, but the front of house host/greeter that provided the menu specials for the day was not the nicest. He appeared to be bored with my decision making regarding the specials that he spewed out so quickly that I couldn't recall. The food was fine. I left 18%. It wasn't anything to write home about while an out of towner. I have to say if the greeter was remotely nice, I would have had a better experience. The fact that he didn't even check back to see if everything was okay (empty that evening) with my meal, or say goodbye as he WATCHED me leave from the bar, really sealed my experience in an otherwise romantic venue. As they say, we don't forget how someone or an experience makes us feel.. and in this case, I felt unwanted. Would have gladly taken my money elsewhere had I not ordered already. Too many other Italian eateries in NY that provide better experiences, like Giggno Trattoria near Tribeca.
As usual, my husband and I had a lovely get together lunch with two close friends. We love this restaurant. We live on the upper east side, and are happy to take a little extra time to come down to this pretty restaurant on east 9th street. The service is gracious and friendly, so we do not feel overwhelmed but feel very comfortable. I had the red snapper, which was very, very good. . My husband had the mussels, which he said were excellent, and the Dover Sole, which was brought out whole and filleted at the table. I wish I knew the secret to their fresh, perfectly prepared vegetables. The Tartuffe dessert is fantastic, and the tiramisu equally delicious (although I would take the Tartuffe, myself, any day!). We had a graciously, unpretentiously served, relaxed lunch, and look forward to returning soon.
Wonderful neighborhood gem! We try to get to the village when we can and probably eat here a few times a year. My favorite place in the village. Excellent food! Have been going here for more than 20 years. It is a restaurant that has stood the test of time!!
I have never written a review for a restaurant before, but felt others should know about the experience. I am very unhappy with the amount we spent on this occasion. The service was bad: the waiter was never around to check if there was anything else we needed or if the food was satisfactory. We had to wait and ask another waiter for more water. We waited an abysmally long time just for the appetizers and the ridiculously expensive $14 caprese salad that came with just 2 slices of tomato, 2 slices of mozzarella, and one basil leaf. Also frustrating was the fact that we were not informed that the gratuity would be included in the final bill. The decor was nice and the fish was perfectly cooked but it couldn't make up for the bad service and the overpriced food. We left the restaurant upset with the experience.
Four of us had a delightful dining experience. We were there for a late lunch. I recommend the red snapper. It was nicely presented, and came with perfectly cooked veggies. One of us had the branzino, which he said was also delicious. The mussels, as an appetizer, were plump and just right. As for the dessert...Tiramisu, it was divine. There is a good wine list. The wait staff is attentive, and helped us decide about our selections. It is a beautiful, gracious european style restaurant.
