ArtBar Ratings and Reviews
I really wanted their outdoor table but because of rain we had to be seated inside. The menu is fairly small but we all enjoyed what we picked. I LOVED the green salad I chose and the Lamb Burger was good, not outstanding. The lamb could have been a little more tasty - it needed a bit more flavor. It was late so they could only offer espresso coffee. The waiter did his job but was not too warm.
I have eaten Sunday brunch there many times. The view on the terrace is especially good. This time the food was not good and overpriced. The service was so slow we had to ask for someone to wait on us. The waitress made up for the delay by giving us something to eat while we waited for our order. I hope they can improve the food, mine a dry crabcake with no seasoning.
I used to go there for lunch from time to time because the foods were good.
We went for Bloody Mary lunch. The bloody Mary did not taste right. It was salty and too hot. Not much jin. It was like a hot bitter tomato juice. The food this time was not very good either. They did not taste right. I ordered the omelets with fried potatoes, which stuck together. They looked as if they were frozen food. They appeared heated and served. The crab cake that my wife ordered was over cooked, burned too much. No taste for the crab. The waiter was not courteous and handled rough. We were disappointed to find the good restaurant in the past now became bad in their foods and service. We will wait until it becomes better. We live in the neighborhood.
Service was very slow. It took a long time to get drinks and even more time to get an order in for the food.
Chicken wings were good and the bread rolls very good but the main dishes were very disappointing without much taste.
Salmon was very dry and side dishes didn't have much taste.
The lobster noodles (>$30) tasted bland. Cooked noodles without lobster and sauce would have tasted pretty much the same.
On a good note, the restaurant has a great patio with Boston views and the life band is great when you don't sit too close to it.
What does a reservation for outside dining mean at ArtBar? Not much.
I had an 8:00 reservation, and we arrived and checked in early. Two parties were ahead of us in line. One, a party of two, also had an 8:00 reservation and was immediately seated at a table for 4. The second, a party of two, had no reservation and was immediately seated at a table for two. The hostess then told us we had a 30 minute wait, and that we had to put our name on a waiting list for outside! Are you kidding me? And, there was a table which needed to be cleared, which I asked for--and was told that there were people who had been on the waiting list longer than me that were designated for that table.
Thankfully, the manager came over and we were seated within ten minutes. Might I also add when I made the reservation I noted it was for outside only. After that hassle the service was decent and our burgers were good. Still, some training needed here, especially since restaurants with outdoor and indoor space, like ArtBar deal with guest preferences all day long. Still and all, a great view of Boston and the river and a pleasant evening. It was just a shame to have paid $22.00 dollars to park (note: park in Cambridgeside Galleria across the street for $4.00 or less) and then to deal with this.
Next time I will speak to someone when I make the reservation to ensure outside reservations are honored without a conversation about it. Nowhere on the reservation site was information about how they reserve outside with a waiting list....
As the indoor restaurant was more family oriented, we requested patio seating. We were surprised that we waited only 5 minutes at the outdoor bar for a table. The staff was pleasant and expedient and seated us in a perfect spot overlooking the Charles. The food came out in a timely fashion and was very tasty. We had a lovely time on a beautiful summer night. Highly recommend the alfresco dining!
Requested a table outdoors when hostess informed us that temps had cooled and wind picked up - said some diners moved back inside. We sat inside on her advice and glad we did. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Apps come out quickly and served warm bread. Entrees were really slow coming out - waitress checked several times and assured us she did put the order in. Killed time with more bread. When they arrived, they were hot and very good. Wished they were quicker to come out - not sure if kitchen was backed up. First time here so not sure if this was just an off night. Would go back and sit outside on a warmer night or for brunch. Good menu and reasonable prices. They also have entertainment starting soon for the summer which looks worth checking out.
Overall an average to poor experience. Food took way too long to arrive although it was well prepared when it did arrive. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed but restaurant was only half full. With all the other great restaurants in Cambridge, I would skip this one. Menu and wine selection very limited.
Inside the Sonesta hotel, service was great until we told them we have a gilt city deal (which we did mentioned at time of making he reservation). Our waiter took longer to check on us but checked on other tables around us rather frequently and quickly. The food quality itself is subpar to nothing special. Unless you're visiting Kendall sq for work or leisure, there's really no good reason for one to go to this place. We were not impressed and will not be back.
Our experience at Art Bar was very pleasing. The location and setting was perfect for a beautifully sunny late afternoon along the Charles River. The service was very good and the menu offered a pleasing variety of appetizers to share as well as entries. We will definitely be returning and hope to make Art Bar a regular destination.
We had lunch on the outdoor patio, which is lovely and peaceful, alongside a marina on the Cambridge side of the Charles River. The food at Artbar is nice, but on this day the service was awful. No one greeted us, we had to go inside to find the hostess who basically ignored us for several minutes, and then once we ordered the food did not come for nearly an hour. I am usually quite happy not to be rushed in a restaurant, but this was lunchtime and some people were very hungry! The server must have forgotten to put in our order - I cannot think of any other explanation as the restaurant was not overly busy. They need to work on service.
We arrived at 12:30 and ordered around 12:45. We ordered 2 kale salads one with chicken and shrimp, one with chicken, a lamb burger and a side of tater tots. It took our waitress 15 minutes to bring us some complimentary bread. We started noticing that people that had arrived after us were receiving their food. After ½ hour we asked what had happened to our order. She said let me go check and then came back and told us something had happened to the chicken. She apologized. After a total of 45 minutes we received some of our food. We had to remind her about the rest of our order and to refill the iced tea we ordered. She apologized profusely, discounted our and gave us free dessert. At that point we did not care. We were the last group of customers in the restaurant. It was almost 2:30!
I was disappointed that despite having a reservation for 3, we waited 45 minutes to sit while we saw several 4-person tables occupied by only 2 people having drinks, not food. We got a drink at the bar while waiting, and unfortunately the bartender was a bit rude.
Requested an outdoor table. An hour wait when we got there. Said tables could not be reserved outside. Reserved table (with sign on it) was right in front of us. With much ado they finally found a table. Waiter later said they were unexpectedly busy (traffic gridlock so people unexpectedly stopped for drink and a bite). Clearly they were overwhelmed - but not to honor reservation just poor management. Food was OK. We have been here before and it was fine. Really bad night
We had a early dinner at Art Bar because the restaurant offered a discount there when we attended a nearby theater performance. At first the waiter seemed a bit cool, though attentive, but he warmed up as the meal progressed. I had two apps: The soup of the day, potato leek, was blended smooth and full of peppery flavor--the best I've had. The spring vegetable salad had colorful beets, carrot and sprigs of cress on a bed of red quinoa with a white balsamic dressing and crumbled feta. Delicious! My friend had salmon on a bed of beans and (?). She said it was very good. We split a dessert that was described as 'Bavarian.' I was expecting something creamy but it was a gelatin mousse. My friend loved it but I was disappointed. Although it was a rainy day, we enjoyed the view of the boats and the Charles River. Art Bar is rather hidden away in the Sonesta Hotel, but it's worth the effort to find it.
My family dined at Art-Bar during Boston's Restaurant Week.
The options from the priced fixed menu were many and varied and well worth the reduced price.
We had a party of 5 and were seated very quickly upon arrival (we did have a reservation).
The staff was friendly, if not a little spread thin. Our waiter, Derek was great, but he was being pulled in too many directions on a Friday night.
Overall, I would recommend Art-Bar for sure. I bet it's really nice in warm weather when you can sit on the patio over looking the Charles!
Service was fantastic and the food was very tasty. We had the three course Restaurant Week menu, but at Art Bar that means you can choose any app, entree, and dessert off of their regular menu. Our waiter, Derrick, recommended a great glass of wine and he was very attentive to everything we needed, even as the restaurant filled up and he got busier. A nice night out and I would definitely go back.
I went there with two other people. They mistakenly gave me the wrong appetizer three different times. They seemed annoyed every time I mentioned that it was wrong. Drinks took a very long time to get. It has a very hotel restaurant vibe. I would avoid if you can.
