About Arroyo Chop House
A modern take on the classic American steakhouse, Arroyo Chop House is one of only a few restaurants in Southern California that serves exclusively USDA Prime beef. This strikingly handsome restaurant, inspired by the Arts & Crafts architectural style for which Pasadena is famous, is clad in rich mahogany and the cozy booths are bathed in seductive light.
Our steaks are aged and hand cut daily and then perfectly seared in a 1,500 degree oven. Traditional steakhouse side dishes include creamed spinach, baked potatoes, asparagus spears with hollandaise sauce, and Arroyo Chop House's famous onion rings. We also offer live Maine lobster and fresh fish, Alaskan King Crab legs, fresh oysters, and shrimp. Compliment your meal with a bottle from our award-winning wine list and finish the night with one of our delicious desserts such as a Grand Marnier soufflé, warm apple pie, butterscotch pudding or chocolate pecan pie.

Arroyo Chop House Ratings and Reviews
The food was AMAZING as always. But the service was just TERRIBLE. We were one of the first tables to be sat on the night of November 15th this year but received the least attention for our 5 year anniversary that we decided to celebrate with them. The lack of attention is one thing but the blatant disrespect is another. Upon sitting down before making any decisions about food we informed our server we would EACH like our OWN chocolate soufflé. The server asked us if we were sure we wanted our own because their soufflé is quite large. We stated yes we both want our own because we are here partly because of their chocolate soufflé. Well after we ordered is when the real problems started. Each course was spaced by about 20 minutes which in my book is a little excessive, especially when our server is stopping at the table next to us every 5 minutes to check in with them. Then comes time for our soufflé.... after waiting 20 minutes after our main dish has been cleared we watch our waiter walk to the table next to us (the table which received ALL of his attention all night) and he proceeds to drop off a chocolate soufflé for them to split. Mind you we sat down before this table, we ordered before this table, and we finished our dinner before this table. After the waiter places the soufflé on the table he proceeds to turn around and say he messed up and only put in ONE soufflé for us. WHAT?!?!?! Didn’t you JUST drop off a soufflé for the table next to us. That was DEFINITELY our soufflé. We proceeded to wait an additional 45 minutes for them to bring us two soufflés. While our waiter did comp us the soufflés after the blatant disrespect we received for such a special occasion I can honestly say I will NEVER return to this restaurant.
The best BD dinner I have ever had . On the reserved table was a BD card. Then the restaurant brought 2 stems of beautiful flowers to me at the table. The food was delicious! Everything was 1st Class all the way. I will never forget what a wonderful night this was to celebrate my birthday. Also, the Waiter was wonderful too! I tell everyone about the this special celebration. I was looking forward to rating this restaurant!
Charmingly relaxed atmosphere of a high end steakhouse. The service has always been great and attentive. On our latest evening the service missed the mark. I don't know if the waitress was too busy, or what was going on, but we rarely saw her once we ordered. It was a Friday evening, but I felt that they wanted us out of the restaurant quickly.
This isn't the first time I've been to Arroyo Chophouse and every visit was wonderful but this visit was pretty disappointing. My steak as well as 3 other people from my party out of 6 had very salty steaks where I could be enjoy it. I ordered the wagyu ribeye steak, cooked medium well.
Overall experience was amazing. Food and service were exceptional. The bbq shrimp, cowboy ribeye and grand marnier souffle were all delicious.
We were celebrating our anniversary and they set up our table with orchids and a special note, the added detail was nice.
I gave my wife the choice of where to go for our 15th anniversary dinner and she chose the Arroyo Chop House, one of our special event places. We've been there several times before and it's always been great. A fine steak house owned by the Smith Brothers who also operate the Parkway Grille next door and Smitty's, a few blocks away. When I made the reservation I included that it was our 15th anniversary. I figured we'd get a complimentary dessert. We arrived right on time for our 8:30 reservation and the place was packed with several groups waiting to be seated. It took about 10 minutes for us to be seated and when we arrived at our table there was a large floral arrangement with cymbidiums, roses, and other flowers, with a card. I figured it was from a friend since my wife and posted on Facebook where we were going to dinner. When we opened the envelope we saw a handwritten note congratulating us. It was from the Arroyo Chop House. I was stunned! It was an expensive arrangement and a very nice and unexpected touch. Our service was great with a very pleasant and attentive server. We split a Caesar salad. I had a ribeye steak and my wife had the petite filet. Both were cooked as ordered. We also ordered scalloped potatoes and braised spinach as sides. Everything was very good. We each had a cocktail and a $55 bottle of wine, and dessert. Total bill, including gratuity, was just over $300. This place is expensive - on a par with Morton's, Ruth's Chris, or any other high end steak house. But I prefer it because it's privately owned and a bit more friendly and intimate. I highly recommend the Arroyo Chop House for a special dinner.
I do love this restaurant. The service is always great and usually the food is. Maybe they were just having an off night the night My wife and I were there. You could tell the meat, the Porterhouse for two, was a Prime Steak. They just seemed to having trouble cooking for us. We ordered it Medium Well, or rather Medium plus as the server told us we could order it. Just not bleeding is what we asked for. But it was a little bloody for my taste. Didn’t want to send it back because the outside was already charred more than I liked. Lobster mashed potatoes seemed to be lacking flavor. Again usually a side that my wife and I really enjoy. Desert, I must say, was amazing! Their chocolate soufflé is the best in LA! It was our anniversary, and this place always makes your occasion feel very special, orchid on the table and an anniversary card. We will still be back.
We always come to Arroyo for the steak and its ambience. Best steak in town and certainly one of the best in LA. However, service can be hit and miss, it depends greatly on your server. Unfortunately, we did not have the best service on this particular dinner gathering, waiter pretty much disappeared after he placed the order. It seems that some of the excellent waiters we saw often before were not there (any more?).
I haven't been here in years and have to say I was disappointed and won't be back. Everything was just OK which shouldn't be the case considering the price and all the great restaurants in Pasadena. Tuna tartar and pancetta wrapped scallops were good however my steak was overcooked and the mac n cheese and brussel sprouts were just OK. Also we were in a room with a large and very loud party so conversation was difficult.
I love this place!! If you really want to treat yourself to a nice, great dinner come to Arroyo Chop House! Everything here is so excellent. Their filet mignon is one of the best I have ever had. There sides are great, too and they are huge so definitely share them. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
best steakhouse been at not only in Pasadena, but LA as well.. Steak was like perfect, charred outside, middle like butter and pink. perfect salt. one of best drink menus ever seen. Professional wait staff, friendly, not overbearing. had porterhouse for 2, for 3 people, still had a chunk left over for lunch next day. wish I could eat here every night!
The Arroyo Chop House is the best steak house in Los Angeles area, period. The service begins at the door and throughout the meal. The food is outstanding, especially the veal chop and the soufflés. Don't leave without the chocolate soufflé together with a bold cabernet. Unforgetable.
This place equals the best steakhouses around, with great food and excellent service. It's also friendly and welcoming, with none of the usual L.A. pretentions. Valet parking is free (you should tip) and the staff was fantastic; our very tall waitress was cheerful and funny, and had no trouble enrolling everyone in our group, from ages 15 to 62, to make a really great 15th birthday dinner. Heck, I'd gladly go back when it's my birthday!
We celebrated my son and his wife's birthday. He also got a new job with Disney at Marvel and an amazing opportunity, so we had a 2003 silver oak Cabernet Sauvignon. The whole experience at the Chop House was fantastic! The USC game was on the bar was hopping, and the whole thing was just a memorable experience. Congratulations to the Smiths brothers and all the staff especially the wonderful pianist, who is so talented and yet kind of played around the crowd in the game. Peter Dill was right when he told me that this is the best special occasion restaurant in Pasadena.
