Aria Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
From start to finish this was top notch. The best meatballs I have had since forever. I would have been satisfied with a loaf of bread and the sauce the meatballs were in. Split the bolognese pasta dish as an app - terrific as well. Finished off with a terrific grilled scallops dish - I'll be heading back next time I am in town.
Delicious meal and a fantastic menu. The price fixe option with the wine flight was great, as usual. Massimo always makes sure you have a good time. Attentive, professional service. The food; lemoncello shrimp, salumi with truffle honey and the meatballs and a fresh crispy insalata was a great start. A couple of foodies in our party were wondering why they had not been there before. It was about to get better with the bolognese, osso buco, veal chop, rib eye, and swordfish special. It is very obvious that the kitchen knows what they are doing. We had a good argument about the best dish and favorite glass of wine. We look forward to settling it at the next visit.
We go to the North End for dinner 4-5 times each year, which is not enough frankly. This was our first trip to Aria, it was outstanding. From being greeted at the door and given the heads up on how timing was running for our reservation (on time) to the familial way the staff treated each other and us, to the food which was absolutely amazing. I had a home made cavatelli with sausage special, it was probably the best thing I've eaten in 6-months if not this year (I travel a ton for work and frequent high end restaurants regularly).
It's a pretty small place, they had a party of about 10 in there with us at the same time and the rest of the restaurant was full, no delays, no issues, larger party had zero impact on our experience.
Aria Trattoria is our new favorite place in the North End, probably even in Boston.
Super cute restaurant on the second floor in bustling North End. We were surprised to see how cozy and romantic it was, and were even greeted by the owner himself! Made our date night feel really special. Food was DELICIOUS as well, of course. Would definitely recommend this place!
My husband and I were in Boston for our anniversary. We did extensive online research, got a travel book and recommendations from our hotel concierge for all our dinner reservations except for the last night. On a whim and a recommendation from someone who knows the North End, we decided to have our last dinner in Boston at Aria. It was by far the best meal we had during our visit. We did their tasting menu, and they were able to accommodate to our preferences (I'm a pescatarian, my husband loves his red meat). Everything was so fresh and beautifully prepared. The serving staff was professional and friendly. The restaurant itself was intimate and romantic. It was the perfect end to our trip.
Great evening for gathering of friends for good food and wine. Massimo, the owner is a great host and made some wonderful wine suggestions. There is a chef's tasting menu served family style that sounds great with wine pairings available. We ordered a la carte since we had a couple light eaters. Food was delicious, great creative seasonal specials.
I’m always hesitant to leave a review when I find a neighborhood gem mostly in fear that it will be overrun once the word gets out. That fear aside, I have to highly recommend that you try Aria for a whole host of reasons. Wether it be that Massimo (the owner) is the first to greet and seat you, immediately treating you like family or the amazing food that he shares. The food here is consistently fantastic. Either off the menu or allowing the chef to create your meal, the outcome is always the same. Delicious Food served with love in a place where you always feel welcome. Aria is not very big and it’s cozy confines only add to the Italian Family feel as you sample Massimos family classics.
My date and I were so impressed with every phase of our dinner experience. We were greeted by the owner, the wine recommendation was terrific, the nightly dinner special was perfect, the bartender made a special drink for us, and the ambiance was quaint and romantic. It was just a fantastic dinner experience!
This is a gem on second floor in North End. We are from Ohio but travel yearly to Boston and always enjoy the North End for good meals and we enjoy the intimate dining.
Aria is as close to eating in Italy as a diner can get. Our server Nicole was outstanding and attentive; the entrees very hot and fresh. The red sauce is perfect. Do not miss this if you are looking for truly delicious Italian food with a lovely ambiance.
The meal Saturday night was beyond our expectations and we had to return Sunday for pasta which we never would do. Enjoy!!
I had the seafood platter and the food was dry no sauce on it or on the side. My girlfriend had the ribeye which was burnt on the outside medium in the middle a little tough and the sauce was bad tasted like a one steak sauce. Food was overpriced for what we had.
Food was delicious but the ambience was not good for a date night.
We were so grateful when the welcoming owner was able to seat us early for our reservation. We opted for Fare Un Viaggio and were SO happy with the meatballs, limoncello shrimp, pasta a la Norma, bistecca delmonico with indulgent truffle fries and the smokey grilled sea scallops with corn and asparagus!
But...we were seated next to a group that the word "obnoxious" doesn't begin to describe. It was a girls night of grown women, acting like they were in their teens. Clearly tipsy, cackling loudly and shouting to one another vice talking. The surrounding tables were sharing similar looks of disgust. It might not have been so noticeable had they been seated in a corner, but they were smack in the middle of the restaurant. The waitstaff seemed to be catering to them- I'm pretty sure I saw a waiter rubbing one of the guest's shoulders (a bit odd in my opinion). We assumed they knew one another and since we were so close to our table, we didn't feel that mentioning it would go over well. We certainly didn't want to make more of a scene.
We didn't want our meal or anything else for free, so we discreetly mentioned it to our waiter after we paid the bill. We said "the food was delicious but this table ruined our experience. We are from out of town and we're hoping for a leisurely, relaxing date night. And they are not only disturbing us, but the other guests look annoyed as well." His response was to attempt to take the bill (we refused) and say "I understand, but they are from out of town too and said they've had a bit to drink."
Flabbergasted, we left the restaurant. To the credit of the restaurant, I'm not sure what the proper solution was. He did try to take some thing off of our bill. I guess my main disappointment is at the inability of the staff to "read the room". 6-7 other table of large groups (families), who all look annoyed...that can't be good for business.
We were in town for a game and based on reviews chose Aria, so glad we did. The restaurant has been nicely redone. The service was amazing, truly attentive. Food was excellent and decent value. My favorite part was having the owner circulating and working the room. This shows a real dedication to his craft. Well done. Definitely recommend.
Eaten here several times. Food is good and the waiter was fairly attentive. However towards the end of the meal, we were very rushed. Waiter told us what they had available for desert and we told him that we would think about it. Next thing I know is that someone is dropping off our check. We order desert and before we have finished check is being dropped off again. Owner of the restaurant was hovering so much that he clearly wanted us to clear out so he could sit another party. After dropping $270 on a meal (4 of us), don't rush me out the door. Will not go back for this reason.
First time I went, I got the Fare Un Viaggio. Was excellent. This past visit we just tried a plate. I got the risotto con zucca with shrimp. Shrimp was delicious but I have to say the risotto could have been more flavorful. Seemed a little watery as well. I still will return soon. Service is excellent. A little pricey, but worth it.
The restaurant was extremely loud because the dining space is so small. The food was nothing special and had very little flavor to it. It was also someone at our table's birthday so they brought us a piece of the chocolate cake. I took one bite of the cake and pulled a 6 inch long black hair from my mouth. The manager came over and jokingly said it wasn't his (because he is bald). He did not even apologize or do anything for us or with the bill. Overall very disappointing given all the other reviews.
I'm new to the Boston area and had been hearing about the great Italian restaurants in the North End. I'm glad I chose this one to visit first! We were greeted immediately upon our arrival and checked in with frequently by who I believe was the owner multiple times throughout our time there. The food was fresh and delicious - I had a scallop and linguini special that was amazing. Portions were very generous! It was a lively place with a lot of talking and laughter. I'd definitely return!
Started poorly when my wife cut her lip on her drink glass with a chip in it. We told the bartender and she didn't believe us, despite the blood and the chipped glass. At a minimum she should have comped the drink, but she did not comp and she didn't even apologize. That was inexcusable. My daughter didn't like her lemon drop drink so we asked the waiter to take it away, but he never asked what was wrong. The fig prosciutto goat app was delicious. The spaghetti was very good. The porchetta was great and a huge portion. The gnocchi was way too heavy and the lobster was over cooked and rubbery. It took along time to get our drinks refilled. This place came highly rated, but there are too many other great Italian restaurants in North End that I don't think we'll be able to return. Follow up note - we asked the restaurant management to contact us about the service issues, but they never did. It looks like the service issues start at the top and are consistent throughout. Very sad.
Aria is a cozy trattoria on the second floor overlooking the festive Hanover St. We enjoyed the calamari and meatball apps. All five of us ordered different entres so we were able to taste a variety of dishes. All delicious, especially the bolognaise. Service was fantastic. We had an early reservation but by the time we left the restaurant was full and humming with happy patrons. Highly recommend Aria and look forward to returning.
NEVER a disappointedment! Always delicious and creative with every dish cooked to a flavorful perfection! Massimo's greeting always sets the tone and Gill provides exquisite service along with a fantastic personality!! LOVE it here. Thank you for getting this little gem PERFECT!
