My hubby and I stopped by for lunch/brunch and it was delicious! The guacamole alone is worth the trip! Highly recco!!
My only real downside is that there was only one "super kid friendly option" which was french toast and it was not a huge portion) - would've been better if they at least had a plain quesadilla.
That said, all food was delicious - including chips and guacamole. My dish (CHILAQUILES, SALSA VERDE, AVOCADO CREMA, FRIED EGG) was so good i wished i could have eaten it all, but note it is CHIP HEAVY and i had just eaten a bunch of chips/guac beforehand....
Nice place for brunch - though a bit noisier than I'd hoped. Rain was in forecast so unfortunately we opted not to sit outside, which i would've preferred.
Good news was i erroneously left my Rx glasses there (dropped on the floor) - but they had them there the next day!
Pleasant Mexican food well prepared with care.
Amazing. Simple and amazing
We had a great meal at 8:00 pm and were the last table to leave. Staff was good and left us alone to socialize. Food was excellent, very tasty and fresh. Noise level was a bit too loud for my enjoyment. Pretty space.
To me, the hallmark of a good restaurant is the morale of its staff. These are a happy bunch, and that spirit is evidenced in Arguello's welcoming and attentive service, and in the fresh, flavor-forward food on the plate. For the uninitiated, the enthusiastic bar staff provides knowledgeable guidance through a mind-boggling tequila and mezcal selection. Arguello is housed in the beautifully restored, historic Officers' Club in the Presidio, surrounded by gorgeous landscaping, and the lush expanse of the Presidio itself. Oh yeah: parking!
They offer refried beans on menu but would not substitute them in a burrito in place of black beans?!
Chips too greasy
Waitress very nice but hostess seemed grumpy and disorganized.
The place was secluded and nice. The service was good. Food was good.
I will visit again and recommend it to my friends for sure.
Service and food was outstanding! Easy parking and my daughter and I were able to have clear conversations. Staff was very attentive and suggestive as it was our first time there. Would recommend Arguello to my friends.
Food and ambience were great! My only complaint....... we ordered a cocktail with meal. Meal came way before our cocktail...... shld be the other way around. Hate when that happens.
Drink or dine on the patio on a nice day
Had a great vegan meal here. Excellent service and food.
This restaurant is very crowded at lunchtime, but we went for dinner. What a terrific find! The restaurant has table service in the evenings and an extensive Tequila list. The food is authentic with some very unusual and very tasty offerings.
Both the service and the food was very good. The location at the Presidio was great being very relaxing and picturesque with a lot of history surrounding you. If you want to get out of the busy and hectic urban scene and avoid traffic and parking hassles, this is very nice place to eat and enjoy the scenery of the Presidio. We will be going back.
A friend recommended Arguello and I was excited to give it a try. While the margarita's were quite good and the drink menu get's a solid thumbs up for a broad selection of tequilas and mezcal, the ambiance and the food were lacking. The restaurant felt tired. The lighting was too compact fluorescent, and the pseudo-rustic tables and chairs just felt mass-market and worn. It would be so much more fun with some authentic tables and truly mexican painted straw-seated chairs or something of that ilk. The food was okay, but overpriced for what it was. In a town where there are so many great taquerias and my favorite - Nopalito - Arguello really needs to up their game. They have all the potential to be something amazing, but sadly fall flat. As it stands, I suggest Arquello for chips & guac and a good margarita on the terrace for a beautiful end of day sunset in the Presidio.
Yummy alcoholic cold brew, amidst the beautiful Presidio forest. Great Mexican breakfast too.
We have tried Arguello about 5 times in the hopes that it has improved but every time we go we leave disappointed. The food is nothing special and it is quite expensive. The best thing is the guacamole with chips.
Booked a table for 3 pm. We were seated quite quickly, got some drinks and chips... We placed our food order around 3:20... a few minutes later we were told the kitchen closed half an hour before. My questions are: why would you take reservations at 3 if that’s when the kitchen closes? Also, why wouldn’t the host tell us? What about the waitress?
Not sure why none of the staff knew, but by the time we were told that the kitchen was closed, it was too late to go anywhere else, and we were already drinking and snacking.
Bottom line, the manager was kind enough to provide some bar bites and offer to take care of one of the dishes. But still, can’t say we had a good experience.
We came in for lunch on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and it was perfect. Great tequila list, interesting cocktails and delicious Mexican food. The menu is simple, but everything was fresh, really flavorful and the staff were very relaxed and friendly. We will be back!
The food was poor to mediocre and the price VERY high( $120 for 4 adults- 3 beers). We will not return or recommend it to friends.
Love the great old California vibe! The location is wonderful too!
Chose this place because it seemed like a great place to brunch on a nice day with friends who have kids - they have outdoor seating which is nice. However, I ordered the Taco Plate and was terribly disappointed - I got 2 (good) tacos on a small plate, as if it were an appetizer. Did not feel satisfied at all. They could have at least served 3 tacos at a slightly higher price or added some chips and guac/salsa or a salad or beans or SOMETHING!! SO disappointing.
When we arrived, the two Hostesses never looked up from the sheets they were reviewing to say Hi?? We actually waited for about 5 mins standing there-- Very shocking...Once we were seated, we waited for about 15 mins without being acknowledged by Anyone. During this time another party were seated two tables across from us. Their waitress came very quickly. After she took their order, she turned around, introduced herself and took our order. I think an in-service is due so staff will know how to provide a higher quality of service to their customers. We did not have a very welcoming experience. We thought the food was just OK too--maybe their customer service put a bad taste in our mouths??.
Really creative, excellent food -- good spices. Very friendly and knowledgable wait staff.
My wife and I went to Arguello for date night. We had the chips and guacamole for an appetizer, which was very good. The chips were made fresh with just the right amount of salt. Salsas and guacamole were also very good. My wife had the Huachinango (red snapper) and I had the al pastor tacos. Both were really good. Margaritas were also good. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal.
Excellent restaurant with great food and good service
Creative menu, great bar, bartenders and cocktails. But as for the food, very good and fresh guac but every entree that came out of the kitchen was salted to the point of of inedibility. If they can modulate the salt it would be four star.
Amazing homemade chips. Good mexican food. Nice outdoor area. Easy parking. Margaritas were ok.
We ate at Arguello on a rainy Wednesday night in January and the restaurant was nearly empty which was surprising as the food was very good. We love the Presidio location, easy parking, and the food and cocktails reminded us of Guadalajara, Mexico. We enjoyed chips, slasa, guacamole, taquitos, plantains, and a beet salad. The selection of tequila and mescal was impressive too. The vegetables were really fresh and well prepared. I think the "mole Amarillo" should be renamed as it wasn't really a mole and the "Al Pastor" tacos tasted more like chicken than pork but overall we really enjoyed the meal and recommend the restaurant. I highly recommend the Casa Dragones margarita with extra lime - just like our favorite restaurant in Guadalajara.
Loved the location and environment. Great for sharing and tasting!
Delicious, healthy food in an historic atmosphere with great service.
We went to celebrate our first dinner out after having twins. The service was excellent and the staff was excited to meet the twins
Beautiful setting in the Presido. When we were there, a family (families) with rambunctious children were right behind us. They were quite loud and disruptive.
The portion (2 taco) was petite. Service was attentive.
Ambiance is lovely and service excellent. I was disappointed that the“seasonal vegetables“
that came with the entree consisted of only one vegetable, chopped squash. I had asked if Brussels sprouts would be included and was told they would. Not so.
Wedding going on made things noisy but fun
We decided to go to Arguello last Friday. I like visiting the Presidio because there is a lot of open space and ample free parking after 6. We reserved via Open Table. We had a nice inside table on a cold evening. The service was great. The food was tasty. Drinks were great. The food was a nice twist on the Mexican food we are used to. The large plates are bigger than you expect. We arrived in kind of a sour mood after a hectic week, but we left relaxed and in a great mood.
Pleasantly Surprised by this Mexican themed restaurant. The guacamole and chips were great although some of the chips were a bit oily. The Mescal house margarita was very good. We had the Red Snapper and the Prawns as main courses and both were expertly prepared and flavorful. The side of whole pinto beans was the perfect accompaniment. Generous portions,
service was prompt and even though our waitperson was new, she did a great job. The menu is small and limited. This restaurant is a nice change from the usual Americanized Mexican food found too often in the bay area.
Loved our meal here. Service and atmosphere was great. Very inviting and casual for a Sunday brunch. Dog friendly, people friendly and food was delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for easy parking, a good meal and then a walk around the beautiful Presidio.
I ordered the fish tacos with one being a white fish and the other shrimp. I would say they are the tastiest fish tacos I've eaten due to the freshness of the fish, the toppings and one corn shell. For dessert I had the flan and it was made to perfection. It was a more casual restaurant than I expected having been in the building back in the 60's and 70's when it was The Officers' Club with my Naval Officer father, but there was the great room with the fireplace where the memories came back.
Always consistent, staff remembers our family. Great experience!
