Arcodoro - Houston Ratings and Reviews
This is the one italian restaurant in the area we had never tried before. So my wife and our 2 kids (6 and 3 years old) had a reservation at the restaurant for 6PM on a Saturday night. We arrived on time. The restaurant did not have a single person in it at that time. The host began to seat us at a table in the lobby of the restaurant, no in the main dining room. Since it was a cold day in Houston, and the table offered us would picking up a draft whenever the front door was opened I immediately asked if we could be seated in the main dining room. However, the host said they do not allow children in the main dining room (even though there was no one in it). He said not to worry "everything will be fine" at the table he had offered us. I have never been to a restaurant that discriminates against kids like this. We left Arcodoro and instead went to Amalfi Ristorante a few blocks down the street on Westheimer and had a great dinner - fantastic food, atmosphere, and service. Would NOT recommend Arcodoro to anyone. With service like theirs, I can see why they were empty on a Saturday night !!!
This is one of my go-to spots for dining - whether with family, friends or for business. This visit was a business lunch. In addition to the consistently excellent food and superior service, I was actually able to hear and be heard without the need to shout across the table to my dining companion - an oasis of calm in a sea of noise!
Fairly poor service. Had to ask for refill on bread 2x. Had to ask for water refill 2x. Waiter kept us waiting to take order for 20 minutes!!! Very understaffed considering the large table of conventioneers nearby and the additional room filled with diners.
This single diner enjoyed a great Friday evening meal in this beautiful but nearly empty restaurant featuring fare from Sardinia. It is hard to know why there were so few patrons, but one factor might have been the 3rd game of the 2017 World Series being played in Houston that evening. I started with the house Sardinian soup. It was complex in flavor - with oysters, a fairly clear broth and fregola pasta. I enjoyed the pasta special, which was lobster in a spicy "al diavolo" red sauce on fettuccine (pictured). Again a wonderful balance of flavors and a reasonable portion size. I ended the meal with assorted biscotti served with "vin santo" for dipping. The waiter, owner and even one of the other patrons all were speaking Italian. The extensive wine list features a variety of Italian, Sardinian and Sicilian wines. A special treat was the fantastic live music by a bass/saxophone jazz duo. While the young sax player was somewhat distracted by the world series game on a silent television behind the bar, he still was very good. The bass player was the more seasoned professional. She was a real virtuoso and provided several wonderful solos. It's a shame there were not more people present to enjoy their music.
Use to be a great place to go. Service wasn't great. And food was average. Not the same. Sat us in a smoking area outside in the corner because we brought a small service dog with papers. By law a service dog can be anywhere including inside. They wouldn't even let us sit on their regular patio which wasn't even 20% occupied. Wouldn't recommend to a friend. Felt we were being rushed to leave.
We arrived at 7:20 for our 7:15 reservation- he told me that he thought we weren't showing up so they either gave away our table or had nothing set up. We waited about 10 minutes and they quickly set up a table next to the bar at the entrance to the kitchen. Needless to say it was not the dining room that I expected. It was uncomfortable as waiters constantly passed our table and the air conditioning was not working well. He later came and apologized which was appreciated but he could have moved us to the formal dining area as my wife and kids were dressed formally for the dinner - we ate at the bar for casual diners. Not at all welcoming!!!
Too many good things to say about Arcodoro. The Staff was beyond knowledgeable of the foods and wines, super attentive and engaging. We opted to do the Houston Restaurant Month Menu and it was done well.
We enjoyed the authenticity of the food and the restaurant and would definitely recommend this place to others as well as look forward to returning to dine again.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, beautifully decorated. Food was very good, all Italian-wine
list, several by the glass. Not your typical Italian menu, very different Sardinian food such as whole fish baked in rock salt. We always like to try new places for Houston Restaurant Weeks and this was a hit--we will return. We had Sunday brunch, I ordered from HRW menu my husband ordered roasted pork from the reg menu.
The food was good, however I don't think the portions were large enough. The appetizer had only the one ricotta bite, easily could have been 2 or 3 per person. The dessert serving size was fine. The entree serving was borderline on size. I don't normally like large portions, but these were bordering on small even for me. My pasta with tempura soft shell crab actually had a grainy area in it that was very unappetizing. Not sure what it was, almost like sand?? The area we sat in was great, nice and quiet.
Definitivamente regresaremos !
Hadn't been here in quite a while...the lobster special brought me back. We were all saying why haven't we been here more often? Great food, service was perfect, ladies lunching able to talk and hear each other as not noisy as waiter came by only to see if we needed something without hovering!
We were visiting Houston for one night and took the recommendation of the hotel staff to eat here. This authentic Italian restaurant had a wonderful menu selection including a few specials not on the menu. The wait staff was wonderful and made some great recommendations. The food was excellent and everyone in our group loved what they ordered. I would definitely go back again.
What a wonderful anniversary dinner! My wife and I decided to dine at Arcodoro for our second anniversary and Effisio and his entire staff went above and beyond and did an excellent job. The service was attentive and warm. The team never made us feel rushed yet they anticipated all our needs perfectly. The food was superb and the atmosphere was just what we wanted on a romantic evening. The service really stood out as they made great wine recommendations and went above and beyond to make us feel special. The dessert platter and homemade lemoncello topped off a fantastic night. All the courses were perfect from the light and flavorful imported buffala mozzarella salad, the melt in your mouth crudo de pesce, imported Sardinian pasta with lamb to the perfectly cooked ribeye! All were delicious! They went really well with the Sardinian wine that is the private label of the house. It was excellent and a great recommendation. This is not you spaghetti and meatballs place so don't expect that. Arcodoro is a true Italian gem in the heart of the galleria. I suggest to expand your horizons and give real Italian food a try and you will not be disappointed! Mille Grazie!!!!
We went for Mother's Day brunch. The service was excellent; knowledgeable, prompt, helpful, and proud of their restaurant, but unobtrusive. We went early and had half the restaurant to ourselves, but even when it got busier, and we had full tables around us, we could converse with inside voices and be heard clearly. The food was served hot and delicious. It was a wonderful meal at a great restaurant. We would definitely refer our friends and family here.
My husband and I celebrated my birthday at ArcoDoro, which I had learned about from one of the owners when their discount cards were offered at Costco. Husband had the ribeye, which was perfect and had a lovely peppered crust, with mashed potatoes and a mixed green salad. I had a special that combined three things I crave: crab ravioli, huge scallops, and clams with a spicy puttanesca sauce. Memorable! Our waiter was most attentive and brought a gratis chocolate mousse cake for my birthday. The menu is pleasantly varied. And we appreciated the option of seven draught beers, which suited our mood that night. This is a great place to celebrate even a small occasion, such as...Friday night!
I read the mixed reviews before we dined there the first time and was hesitant but decided to try it and had a great experience. We returned a few weeks later and had a very different experience so now understand why such differing reviews. I made reservations several days in advance and even called speaking to the manager to confirm our reservation mid-day and tell them that there would be 2 fewer people in our party. When we arrived with a guest from out of town our table wasn't even set up even though there were tons of tables open. I'd asked for a nice table on the patio and there was a table right next to the table they sat us at that was set up but they seated us at a table right next to that table that was not set up. They seemed to be in a hurry and just said "here you go" as if we were walk-in customers. It took forever to get waters and our table set. Someone came by and tossed menus in front of our empty places and scurried away. Then our waiter arrived and talked 90 miles an hour (again the restaurant had barely any patrons there) not letting us get a word in. He kept trying to repeat our order and kept getting it wrong. He was a nice man and smiled a lot but was definitely not a polished upscale waiter. He did try to sell us a lot of pricey menu items which I guess was his goal, not a relaxing and pampered evening for the hundreds of dollars we spent on this meal for sure. There were managers standing around hugging the necks of a couple of patrons so they must have their regulars but we will definitely not be one of them. The managers need to ensure quality control from the kitchen to the service and that certainly was not seen in our case.
