Life is complicated.
Good food shouldn’t be.
Need to book at 6:30 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Our family dined at the ARC last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. This was our first visit there. First the positives:
- Central location, with great view of Canada Place
- Excellent ambiance in this arc-shaped restaurant
- Excellent, friendly service from our server
Now the areas that left us unenthused:
- SLOW service. It seemed to take forever for the next dishes to arrive. And not even a single dinner roll to keep us occupied in the meantime. Was there only one server for the entire back half of the restaurant?
- The food was good, but not any better than other popular restaurants that cost half as much.
- The price seemed really high for what you get. $10 for a virgin cocktail; $6 for a coffee with no refill offered. $14 for a dessert that was a scoop of ice cream with some sprinklings of "pie shards".
We were puzzled by the menu, which was just several sheets of paper in a clipboard. The food selection didn't seem that great. They used a lot more ink describing their alcohol.
We were trying this restaurant as we had a sizable gift certificate to defray most of the total. Without a certificate, I cannot say that we would dine in this restaurant.
I have been to ARC several times over the last 2 years and have had great experiences. I love the space, and service is always excellent and thoughtful. I think that the happy hour pricing and choices is excellent. And when I've taken clients here (on expense account), perhaps I'm not super price-sensitive.
A couple of days ago I invited a friend for lunch at ARC and was shocked at the bill. Well over $100 for two starters, 2 small-ish mains and 2 glasses of wine. I think the wine prices were particularly shocking. I can't justify coming back again when there are so many restaurants around that would serve something as good for much less. ARC has tweaked its menu recently, and perhaps set prices too high. I'd come back for happy hour, not for lunch.
Great service, good food
We came for the seafood platter for 2 (appie-sized), and we were NOT disappointed. Everything on it was amazing.
Our server went the extra mile to have the kitchen prepare a separate seafood chowder without bacon for us. Soup is usually made ahead of time, so this was extra effort.
The risotto was good but not excellent. The rice was slightly crunchy and the flavour could've used more layers; it was a bit too simplistic.
I ordered the burnt honey (from their own beehives!) ice cream – phenomenal. Incredible flavour.
Modern atmosphere with both dark tiled floor area with floor-to-ceiling windows, or more cozy, carpeted area with more padded seating away with the windows.
Overpriced for subpar service and food quality. A multitude of options to pick from that provide far better value for the price they charge here.
Ambiance was lackluster.
Service was nonchalant and awkward.
Came for birthday which no enthusiasm was displayed.
For the price, the food quality was slightly underwhelming. But the location, view, and service are great. I like this restaurant for a business lunch in the area, but don't think it give good value, even on an expense account. Wish I could be more positive.
ARC is one of my go-to restaurants for a business lunch. The location is great, space is bright, the service is very friendly and attentive, and the food (limited menu, have liked everything I've ordered) is quite good. Drinks are pricey, except at happy hour.
The appetizers were balanced and refreshing, particularly the crab cakes, albeit the portion were small. However, the mains lacked any significant depth of flavor. The arc board was also almost room temperature by the time the food got to the table. A bit of a disappointment since the ambiance and service was exceptional.
The food and drinks were incredible. The service was fantastic. The only concern was the pricing was a little high but not unreasonable.
Good food, small portions, expensive
Ordered the Arc Board for myself and wife. Along with local veggies had duck, salmon, and perfectly prepared scallops. Wonderful flavors.
As usual, our birthday celebration for a friend was lovely. We especially appreciated the beautiful birthday treat plate. Thank you Anna and all who make arc our first choice for lunch!
Jennifer was our server for the day, and she was phenomenal. She was tentative, excellent in recommendations, clear and concise.
We celebrate my birthday here and the food was outstanding, the service was great, and the place has a great view. They brought a dessert platter at the end to celebrate the occasion and I can’t tell you how good everything was. Looking forward to come back.
The server was amazing. The food was just ok and the price for the taste was a bit too expensive however the ambient was really nice they had live music which was very nice.
Restaurant has a very pleasant tiered and un-crowded layout. The waiting team were helpful, friendly and efficient. Fish main course was beautifully cooked and presented. The meal was excellent and the ambience enhanced by the guitar playing vocalist providing a melodic background to the room. Very pleased we chose to eat here.
6 of us staying 3 nights. Terrible wait for first course, 30 minutes more for entree.Wrong bill . Food manager Richard apologized, gave 6 of us a bottle of wine when we asked for it . Yet poor service continued. Would we dine here again? Never ever.
I like taking my clients and prospective clients to Arc because it has a great business ambiance, and the noise level is low so that I do not have to raise my normal voice to be heard.
As usual we three loved our visit to Arc to celebrate three birthdays adding up to about 240 years of life!
The treat of ice cream was such a nice gesture from Arc..Baba was a lovely ,thoughtful waitress. Thanks!!
THE MEAL WAS SPOILT BY A VERY NOISY RECEPTION IN THE BAR AREA WHICH WAS VERY CROWDED. THIS WAS MADE WORSE BY ALL THE HARD SURFACES WHICH JUST BOUNCED THE SOUND AROUND MAKING FINE DINING IMPOSSIBLE. ONE OF THE MAIN COURSES WAS VERY ACCEPTABLE BUT THE OTHER WAS OVER COOKED AND A STRANGE CONFUSION OF FLAVOURS THAT DID NOT WORK TOGETHER.
Great service and venue, how our Cobb salad wasn’t very flavourful.
Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!!! We enjoyed a very special meal celebrating our son’s graduation. Our service was exceptional... thank you Emilee! The food was perfect and the atmosphere very enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute!
First time eating here for my Aunt's birthday. Food was great but the best part was the staff. They went above and beyond to make sure my Aunt felt special on her birthday. It had a very positive vibe and everyone was friendly. Special thanks to our server Emilee, she was nothing but amazing!!! Thank youu😊
Staff are courteous. Food is divine. Our server Alcina is a gem. I'll have her every day of the week!!! We had a business lunch, 5 of us, and shared the daily special: 2 plates of Dungeness crab risotto for the table. It was probably the best I have had!!! I will 100% be back. Always ask for Alcina for lots of love and laughs.
Amazing food, amazing location, amazing staff, it’s just AMAZING!
Excellent service and also server Jennifer was spot on with her recommendations as well as service. Food was cooked perfectly.
Beautiful Easter brunch. The service was outstanding. They even remember that we were celebrating a birthday and got us a gluten free vegan cake since I mentioned that I'm celiac. Everything was amazing. The only thing is that $55 per person is a little pricey.
We found Easter brunch was better last year. There was more variety of food. Service was excellent although we didn’t like the 15% gratuity added to the bill. There was just the two of us. I normally tip higher when the service is good but did not because they automatically added the 15%.
We’ve been doing this brunch for years but will likely go elsewhere next year.
I would definitely eat here again. It’s not 5 stars though. Had a very good cheeseburger, a good salad and a pretty good bowl of crab chowder. The burger was probably the best of the 3, but at $20 for a cheeseburger, it should have been the best burger I’ve ever had. It was good, but not the best. $12 would have been a fair price.
Service was very good,(Phillip), and the restaurant was clean and well maintained.
Stunning view, great food, service and music! A business colleague and I enjoyed a delicious dinner on a beautiful clear, super moon night. The floor to ceiling windows looking at the waterfront made for a great viewpoint. The food was delicious and artfully presented. I enjoyed crab cakes (lots of lump meat) and my colleague the wild salmon. We ordered the house bread (molasses bread) to start and it was decadently warm right out of the oven with herbed whipped butter. Yumm! Bonus - there was a solo singer/songwriter performing that added to the relaxed and enjoyable ambiance. All made for a nice dining experience.
Have been coming her for years at the time of the Pacific Dental Conference and continue to patronize the place. Good food and service consistently.
We were entertaining clients after seeing Barack Obama. We arrived at 620pm and ordered right away. By 8pm we still didn’t have our food. They did end up comping our drinks but it should never happen in a place like this. It was embarrassing as our clients really needed to get going.
Great dinner, food was well presented and good value! Our server Julie was delightful, engaging and cheerful! The whole dining experience was 1st Class!
Great service. Delicious meal. Fantastic environment. Bit pricy side but worth it!
The platings are perfect, the window side view is super recommended as it would face the Harbour view with the Canada Place and the Conventional Center.
Side bread was also great that I have never tasted such rich bread before. Super recommended during the meal.
My Hosetess Emilee gave me the greatest service ever!!
The server was charming! Over $50 for two small soups & two cafe lattes seems a bit steep. The soup was good and the bread rolls excellent. My associate had a bit of a view and the tables are a discrete distance apart which was worth something to me.
I went dine out Vancouver. Really good food and service. My husband, my 2yo boy and myself really enjoy the night! Excellent dine out experience!
Even with the reservations we had, we still had to wait for 20 minutes to be sat. The hosts were apologetic. Food was very disappointing maybe because we did the dine out menu. We expected more because of the price point. The cured salmon had still the skin on, which made the taste really fishy and less appealing. Red snapper was a little salty for my liking. The duck confit could have been braised more. The only thing that we enjoyed was the dessert and live music.
Out of the many high-end downtown restaurants, this place has got one of the friendliest staff you can find. They make everyone feel welcomed, and they take time to get to know you, and their intentions seem genuine. Our server was very observant as well and really personalized her service to us. We never once felt rushed in our meal, and overall it was an impressive experience for Dineout. Service aside, the food was absolutely amazing and creative. Most other high-end restaurants serve Dineout like it’s a chore, but this one really blew us away. We will definitely come back.
Our waiter was excellent - just the right amount of attention and privacy - super good touch.
Very knowledgeable and clear communicator. He was just outstanding. Food was stellar but a bit pricey ($140 for lunch for 3 people - only one adult beverage then add $40 to valet the car) - Seems a bit rich for what was received
That said really enjoyed myself and would likely go back
