About Arabesque

Building on the success of New York City’s acclaimed Barbès Restaurant, Omar Balouma & Abdellah Ksiyer introduce Arabesque, named for the art form defined by a complex ornamental design of intertwined flowing lines & geometric figures originally found in Moorish decoration. Arabesque Restaurant resonates this in its architecture, décor and menu with a modern Moorish dining room, a traditional Moroccan lounge and a menu that carefully intertwines North African, Middle Eastern & Mediterranean cuisines.

Food was ok, but service was very slow. Waited almost half an hour to order drinks. Food is over-priced:$8 for a side of couscous! They have a bizarre ritual of lighting a large, very bright magnesium sparkler for a birthday, and when it was brought to a table next to us, it totally ruined the ambiance of this cozy Moroccan restaurant. Will not return.

My boyfriend and I love all sorts of different food. For his birthday I was looking for a nice, but not overly priced place. The service was good, not too busy, and the food was delicious - fresh!

In short, the food is good and so is the service. They just need to coordinate both. 4 people waited on us. All good except they kept inquiring about the same things such as trying to take our drink and food orders.

The Tuesday we went the restaurant was not full so it was perfect for conversation, good food and wine. Tables are very close together so I can imagine that on Fridays and Saturdays it might feel crowded and a little noisy.
All that said, food was outstanding and authentic. Having spent time in Northern Africa and the Middle East, I can attest this is no fusion nor Americanized kitchen: it is the real thing. From appetizers to desserts every single dish was wonderfully condimented and expertly cooked.
Service was very efficient and most of all, friendly.
Will most certainly be added to my favorites in NYC.

Both meat dishes a little heavyly spiced but flavored well, the hummus surprisingly bland but great smooth texture, good fresh salad

Great little find, excellent service - waiters were really friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is lively and the place is stunning.

Found it a little off putting people smoking hookah either side of the table, but if you don’t mind that the place is excellent, highly recommend - one of my favourite finds in NYC.

Nice menu but sadly, the dishes were way under seasoned. None of those lovely Moroccan spices we expected, and everything badly needed salt. No salt on tables. My chicken tagine with lemon and green olives had only four small olives. Food was a big disappointment. Should have guessed when we walked in to a completely empty restaurant at 730 on a Saturday night. Yes, we are early birds by NY standards, but surely if the food is good someone else would be dining too. What WAS great was the service. Very attentive and friendly server/front of the house staff. We felt this place was catering more towards their lounge crowd than their food.

One of the worst NYC restaurant experiences I've had in a while. The service was atrocious (forgot orders, fought with us over orders, waited over an hour and a half for appetizers). The belly dancing was entertaining but the food and drinks were terrible. I would find another place to go if you want to have dinner and a show.

Great food an entertainment, with a middle eastern flair. Starting with a belly dance performance during dinner, then transforming into everyone getting up from their tables and dancing to a middle east-themed DJ.

I took my friend there for her surprise birthday party and she and her friends loved it sooo much. It was the most amazing place ever. Food is delicious and in nice portion. The staff are amazing and they even had live music and belly dancing. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to go there especially to host a party. It is all worth it. I want to go again.

Arrived at 7:30 Saturday night and it was quiet. Started to get busy as we ate. Eventually the volume was loud and they were preparing for belly dancing and live music as we left. Would have stayed but ran out of time on the meter 20 blocks away. Great food and very friendly service. Will be going back

I planned my 21st birthday dinner/event at Arabesque. I wanted a different, comfortable, lounge like vibe, with dance party potential. I invited about 20 people and there was more than enough space to seat everyone in the beautiful lounge area of the restaurant. The decor was wonderful and exactly what I had envisioned. There was even a DJ the night of my dinner who played everything from Arabian background music, to Drake towards the end of the night. The food and drinks were more than I had anticipated. I shared the cheese platter and stuffed chicken which were TO DIE FOR! One of my favorite dishes ever. The service was fantastic and before my party, the workers / owners called me back not once, not twice, but THREE times to ensure everything I wanted was in full effect. They even brought out a special birthday dessert and a firework for me! Totally surprised and absolutely wonderful. Everyone told me after that it was "LiT" and the best party they've been to. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ARABESQUE. For a date, a girl's night out, or a large party. This place has and does it all. 10/10

We went to this place on a Saturday and were able to get a table via OpenTable when booked liek 15 minutes before. Our first thought was this place must not be good, since its empty on a Saturday. When we arrived we were shown to our table and the place was partially filled.

The waitress who served us had the best choice in almost everything. She chose our hookah, drinks and dessert and they were all good. The hookah is pricey, but they didn't nag us for 4 hours to buy another one, so I would say it's worth it.

Great place to go for a date or hang out with friends.

Loved the food, decor, service and energy. The only constructive criticism would be table position. Ask for an alcove or else you may find yourself really close to the next table.
