The menu offerings at A.R. Valentien are determined and influenced by what ingredients are available at any given time during the various seasons. Popular dishes include Brandt beef rib cap roulade as well as the chicken liver pâté. Our elegant, timbered indoor-outdoor dining room overlooking the 18th hole of Torrey Pines Golf Course is open for dinner service Wednesday through Sunday.

Their wine will be paired with multiple courses prepared by Executive Chef, Jeff Jackson, and Chef de Cuisine, Kelli Crosson. Dinner will be served on individual tables outdoors at 6:30pm. Please be prompt. The price is $185 per person and the full price, plus tax and gratuity, will be collected at the time of booking. Any additional beverages ordered may be paid at the time of the dinner. An a la carte menu will not be available. While our chefs always do their best to accommodate food allergies, this is a set menu. Please note on your reservation any food allergies. The food courses will be posted one week prior to the event on our web page.

We love AR Valentien. It had been a long time since we had dined there. We were celebrating our anniversary and my husband's birthday. We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening. Our waiter was wonderful and the food and wine were spectacular. With Covid, we have not been out much, but everything about that night was very special. Thank you to our host, our waiter, the chef, the valet. Amazing!
With expanded outdoor seating we found ourselves in an expansion area of the porch that was poorly lit and didn’t give us a restaurant feel. We were willing to go with it bc Covid presents challenges like this but for our first dinner out after a year, we might as well had room service as there was zero ambiance. The other central tables looked fine so insist on a central table unless you want a dark private corner. No candle on the table and couldn’t see our food. We told the waiter to please hold off submitting our main course as we were enjoying our appetizer and drinks. The food came out right away as we were still nibbling appetizers so that was a miss. The chicken was juicy and perfect but the veggies were over sauced and soupy from too much butter, cheese and sauce. Only worth a couple bites. Wife had scallops which she enjoyed. Cocktails were great. I’ve had much better meals here before so look forward to giving this another shot ...maybe only appetizers, drinks and a dessert next time though. Bus boys were on it and the waiter was kind/professional except for the miss on timing.
We had an amazing dinner experience last Saturday. Chef Kelli Crosson is one of San Diego’s best, staff was friendly, food was outstanding!
A charming patio setting with quiet guitar music. The Halibut dish was outstanding . The chef sent out tasting cups of a mushroom soup before our dinner was served and small donuts with our coffee.?The wine list had a good selection . The desserts were fabulous . Would highly recommend when u r in the San Diego area!

We had Easter lunch at AR Valentien. There was a set menu with a fixed price, but plenty of options. Everything was delicious! The service was wonderful. The setting is delightful! The staff at The Lodge at Torrey Pines made Easter away from home special!

AR Valentien continues to be our Go-To restaurant for our special celebrations and to wow out-of town guests. We make sure that we arrive in time to watch the sunset over the ocean, lighting up the Torrey Pines golf course. One of the beautiful views in La Jolla. The service is always first class and Paul, the sommelier, is outstanding pairing wines with your dishes and your desires as well as making sure each party is well taken care of. The food never disappoints.
Every dish was outstanding, not just the mains. Even the vegetables were memorable. I would rate this one of the few San Diego area restaurants worth the roughly $100pp we spent here. Exceptional service as well.
From beginning to end it was amazing! From the printed Happy 17th Birthday printed on our menus (for our daughter) to the chef coming out to say hello to the fancy birthday dessert! The food as always was just wonderful. The perfect evening to celebrate our beautiful daughter’s 17th birthday!
Now that Covid restrictions are lifting and we've been vaccinated, we decided to return to celebrate all of the missed 'celebrations' (birthdays and anniversaries) of the last year (along with friends who often join us for these celebrations). We weren't disappointed. The service was terrific (thank you Alex and team), and the food was delicious (thank you to the chef who prepared my request for a vegetable platter for my entree... I'm sorry that I didn't ask for her name). And thank you to Paul Krikorian for stopping by to say hello. It felt as if we'd come home... We look forward to returning again.

AR Valentien is one of San Diego's gem restaurants. We had the citrus salad and tuna carpaccio for appetizers. Both were outstanding. That's the best tuna carpaccio I've ever had. Our dinner entrees included the Duck Breast, Caramelized Sea Scallops and Halibut entree. All were outstanding. The service is excellent, the view is outstanding. Come early for a drink and enjoy the wood fireplace in that beautiful bar. The only drawback is that the wine list is very California-centric, and you miss access to some wines that would pair very well with their food, like a Sancerre or a Brunello di Montalcino. All in all, however, an outstanding meal and dining experience.
Great food and excellent service. Even in Covid conditions, the outside is refreshing, warm with overhead heaters and friendly environment. Paul the sommelier is well prepared for any wine request.
We had our 20th anniversary dinner and loved it! The staff was friendly, attentive, and spoiled us. Excellent wine selection, and the food was wonderful. I went Vegan with their stuffed squash - a seasonal dish I'd normally ignore in search for meat - and absolutely loved it! My wife had the halibut which was amazing as well. Definitely recommend!
Excellent atmosphere great service all around. Also they prepared a special printed menu for my wife’s birthday printing happy birthday with her name at the top of the menu. A very nice touch! We come every year for our birthdays and also several times a year in between. Love the view just awesome!!!

With no option to dine in, I have waited a year before I broke down to eat outside, on a cloudy, cool, and breezy night. Surprisingly, the environment was blocked from the wind, well heated, and spaced to be appropriate during COVID. Service was excellent, friendly and prompt. The food was fantastic. Well done.

This was a 5 star dining experience. We went there for our anniversary. When they called to confirm the reservation, the hostess asked for the occasion and they personalized the menu for the occasion and brought out a nice dessert with happy anniversary written on it. Food was incredible. Portion size was just right. Presentation was excellent as well. Service was top notch.

We reserved a number of tables for our party of 13 to accommodate social distancing; however, the venue could not place us near our aggregate party. Our table of 4 was far from the other members of our group. We were told that a table top 5 five near our party was "reserved" which precluded us from dining near our friends, which was very odd. Move a table! Given that we paid for 13 diners, one would think they would have made an accommodation of some sort. Food is good, staff is very polite, but not cooperative.
Our server was very snooty as if she was doing us a favor for being a waitress during Covid. We appreciate everyone that continued to work during the pandemic but no need to have an attitude about it!

This is one of the finest gourmet restaurants at which have had the pleasure of dining. You can tell simply from reading the menu that the food is going to be exceptional. Needless to say, it was, in fact, quite exceptional. Our server was Andy and the sommelier is Paul. They both were fantastic and made our dinner and even more enjoyable experience. I definitely will go back to this wonderful restaurant the next time I’m in the San Diego area.
