About AR Valentien at The Lodge at Torrey Pines
In our signature restaurant, A.R. Valentien, Chef Jeff Jackson showcases, fresh market driven seafood, meats, produce and dairy products.
The menu is determined and influenced by what is available at any given time during the various seasons. Certain farms have been commissioned to produce items specific to the Lodge. Local small fish and seafood companies who deal in regional Southern California and Baja "catches" are utilized, as well as other west coast purveyors.
Out of respect for the quality of the foodstuffs available, the cooking is somewhat restrained in order to take advantage of the natural flavors and textures of the ingredients.
Because of this more "hands off" approach and the use of simple seasonings, various olive oils, and intense broths and juices as flavoring mediums, the dishes retain their nutritional integrity as well.

AR Valentien at The Lodge at Torrey Pines Ratings and Reviews
Staff, both wait and valet, were exceptionally attentive! At our request, we were seated inside. A short time later another group of ladies were seated at a table immediately behind our table, causing us to be concerned that we would have to talk over each other. Blessedly, their table conversation went unnoticed by us!
We felt the drinks were too expensive for the small amount of alcohol. I ordered a "Bloody Mary", while a friend had a double "Martini".
My entree was the swordfish, which was juicy and tasty. The accompanying corn serving was great. My friends had the hamburger which was tasty, but too thick/tall to get into their mouth around. One gal discarded her bun.
Dessert was delicious! We ordered Cream Burlee and the upside down cake. Both were just the right amount to finish off our meals.
The valet service were friendly and speedy in retrieving our vehicle. They not only expressed they would look forward to seeing us again, but also recommended that we stroll through the garden which apparently has plants native to the Torrey Pines preserve!
Again, it was an enjoyable lunch and ambience!
Went for lunch since we are visiting San Diego for our anniversary. Gave us a special anniversary menu to take home!! Super cute!! The service was amazing and all the people who work there were super friendly. The food was pretty good, had the duck and seared tuna. The view was amazing!! It was a great experience.
Positives: The food is brilliantly prepared and very healthy, with a spectrum of flavors using great ingredients. The corn muffins are "to die for." The ambiance is awesome.
Negatives: my flatiron steak was a little undercooked and tough and a little pricey.
Summary: great food, service & venue, but a little pricey.
Went for anniversary dinner. Quiet and comfortable dining room and outdoor seating as well. Have enjoyed this restaurant in the recent past. Service friendly and attentive. Good drinks. Corn soup and a tomato salad were quite tasty. Main course of pork chop was overly smoky but very juicy and tender. Chickpea accompaniment was unsuccessful. Only a few dessert choices but strawberry tart was satisfactory and was followed by extra plate of small sweets which were good. Overall a nice evening but the food wasn't at their usual level.
What a pleasure it was to have lunch at AR Valentine. I let them know ahead of time we were celebrating my daughter's acceptance to college and they went far above and beyond to make her feel special. Also, the food was flawless and the view spectacular. I look forward to returning for dinner sometime.
I enjoyed the quiet and the ability to have a meaningful conversation. The staff were attentive and the food came out promptly from the kitchen. We had fish perfectly prepared. It is a beautiful place with a great panorama of the sky and the rich greens of the golf course.
The food and service were top notch. The atmosphere was inviting. There is seating in the lodge and on the patio. The seared duck breast with duck confit leg was one of the best duck dishes I've ever experienced. The vegetables and salads were fresh. The smoked trout appetizer was perfect - not oily and not dry. Excellent wine list with mostly California varietals and a knowledgeable servers. The fresh bread, especially the corn muffins, were delicious. The cost for dinner with cocktails, a nice bottle of wine ($80), two appetizers, entrees, coffee and shared dessert were about $125/per person. Not too bad for a special occasion. I would definitely return.
This was the second time eating at this beautiful restaurant and it does not disappoint. The outside alone is beautiful and impressive and as soon as you walk through the door you know this is going to be special. The service is impeccable and you feel relaxed while enjoying the beautifully cooked food. The view from the terrace is as beautiful as it looks on the TV and the fact that this is a well renowned golf course just adds to the venue. I would highly recommend the bar and the restaurant for any occasion if you want to be spoilt.
The ambiance was excellent, as was the food. The waiter was attentive (though after being offered more bread, my husband had to ask a second time for it). We appreciated being brought a complementary serving of vegetables. We enjoyed the reference on our menu to it being our wedding anniversary. The bar tender was helpful when I asked questions about their selection of single malt whiskys.
I was surprised that I wasn't offered gluten-free bread (yes, I had made it known when I booked the reservation that I must eat gluten-free, and this was later confirmed).
I was shocked to see the "Minimum Wage Surcharge" on our bill.
My client and her tax preparer and I meet for lunch at The Lodge regularly and unfortunately yesterday's service was horrible. I would not expect to have to ask for butter three times. Lunch took over 2 hours and that s too long to have to be away from the office. Service was exceedingly slow and for no apparent reason - the restaurant was only moderately full. Disappointed.
All ways a treat to go to this restaurant . The Evans family has created a very special hotel, restaurant and atmosphere. You will not be disappointed in this family owned place. The fresh flowers, views, service, menu, and food never fail to impress me each time I go .
Incredible/beautiful venue, great service, incomparable views, and very good food too. Party of four, celebrating a 93rd birthday; personalized menu is/will be a keepsake - Thank you!. Total came to about $180, incl tip/no alcohol, so not inexpensive, but neither is the setting and service. Def a spec occasion consideration - everyone in our party loved the food and Miguel, our server.
Icing on the cake was a very well known TV celebrity, seated at the adjacent table ... the place was discreetly 'abuzz.'
Terrific food and beautiful ambience. A really lovely place to dine. We sat on the outdoor deck on a lovely summer evening and were able to have a nice four way conversation. This is just not possible in so many noisy restaurants these days. We love A R Valentien!!!
