Waited half an hour although we booked in advance and it was my gf’s birthday. The Sunday dish was too salty for my girlfriend, the concierge was not helpful and didn’t usher us for a drink while waiting, the waiter was good though.

I’ve dined at Aquitaine dozens and dozens of times. I was a frequent diner before the Boston renovation and waited patiently for the reopen. I go to Brunch there nearly every Sunday year round. It was, for a long time, my favorite restaurant. Great staff, ambiance, food, value.

Having said that, I hate to report that the only consistent thing about brunch there lately, is the inconsistency. Missing ingredients in various eggs Benedict... Ham? Really? Avocado in the tomato/avocado Benedict? Salad dressing on the salad? Cold potatoes? 30 minute wait for a reserved table? All of these are overlooked for your favorite place - we all have bad hair days and we’re family... until they become such frequent occurrences you wonder why it’s still your favorite.

I’ve filled out numerous complimentary feedback cards in the past praising the place, and have spent literally thousands of dollars there (@ $100/Brunch it adds up fast) so I feel no guilt being this honest.

I’m sad to say, Aquitaine, I think it’s time we start seeing other people.

Using OpenTable, we made a 1:15 pm reservation for Sunday brunch, but were not seated for at least 20 minutes, which begs the question what is the purpose of a reservation? After we were seated, the service was lacking, most likely due to a paucity of wait staff.

My wife ordered the duck hash with poached eggs and hollandaise; unfortunately, the eggs were not only over-cooked but cold and the hash was black not golden brown. We sent the dish back to the kitchen.

We shared my dish, the salmon benedict. The poached eggs were properly cooked, but that should be the norm not the exception for any restaurant offering eggs benedict.

I doubt we will return for brunch. We are inclined to consider dinner under the assumption Aquitaine can deliver on what appears to be an appetizing menu.

I love eating here, but my only critique would be that the portiions are quite small in relation to the price. With that said, it was nice "not to overeat", but I had the scallops, and although they were scarce, I was more taken aback by the underlying veggies. Mushrooms and some sort of cauliflower puree were minimalistic to be sure. I will surely return though, as the service and ambiance are great for my neighborhood go-to establishment.

We had a reservation for 12:15 but were not seated until 1:05. The hostess lied to us and would say we were next to be seated and then seat another party. The hostess also seated a couple who has a reservation for 12:45 before she seated us. Overall, very dissapointing service and overall experience.

Paris Meets The South End
For years, Aquitaine has been our favorite Boston restaurant. The intimate, Parisian bistro atmosphere, impeccable service, and delicious, expertly prepared dishes, are all rave worthy. The renovated space is very similar to the old space, yet the side front dining room and airy ventilation are welcome additions.
Whenever we dine at Aquitaine, we are greeted and treated like dear friends. The staff knows your tastes, your cocktail order and your seating preferences. The chef prepares everything with expert culinary skills. The salads ( endive or house with cheese), soups (onion is superb), tarts (again, onion is the delicious star), to the incredible entrees ( filet mignon, duck and, our personal favorite, the sole) are expertly prepared. Every meal at Aquitaine is as perfect as it gets. If that wasn't enough, the sublime desserts are the glorious end to the perfect meal ( creme brûlée, bread pudding, and apple tart are our favorites). Aquitaine is truly the best meal and the best restaurant in Boston.

Located on restaurant row in the South End and near theaters, this French inspired restaurant provides a generous bar, well selected wines and creative food. The endive salad with walnuts and blue cheese was well dressed and the ravioli and cod dishes were tasty. If you don't mind close quarters, this is a great spot. However, the seating is very tight along the banquets. A better choice is one of the four booths which provide better legroom and room for conversation. The decor is very sophisticated and well done. Busy on theatre nights.

Dined here recently with a small group of colleagues from New York, who to my delight loved Aquitaine. I didn't mark the "fit for foodies" button; because the menu here is fairly classic French bistro (not particularly adventurous); but every dish is prepared perfectly and tastes wonderful. Three of us had the escargot to start; and happily there is terrific fresh bread to dip into the extra garlic butter. We had four different entrees and all were delicious. Do yourself a favor and order the tarte tartin. I don't even like apple things that much, but WOW is that a good dish. I wanted to lick the plate to get all the caramel sauce. The ambiance is elegant and upscale - I've been twice now for business but this is also my idea of a perfect romantic dinner place. The servers are knowledgeable and the pacing of the service was perfect. Go.

This is my absolutely favorite France style bistro very realistic to the real thing found in Paris. The food is great, staff friendly and ambiance fantastic, cozy and great for people watching. We dine here 4 or 5 times per year, so try it, and see for yourself.

Love the place. Food is great, staff are usually very good. Hostess was probably the rudest person I've dealt with in a restaurant. Had to wait 30 minutes for table and rather than be apologetic the hostess made patronizing comments. I think it's unusual for this place.

This place is super for before play dining. The cocktails are tasty and the food is well prepared. I had my usual steak frites and my husband had the Thursday lamb special. Both were quite good. The room has a slightly noisy happy feeling. I eat here maybe six times a year and I always enjoy it!

We went to Aquitaine for Early morning brunch. I have been there before for brunch. I ordered the pri fixe breakfast & unfortunately it was very disappointing. I had an omelette & home fries & both were cold & the omelette was very heavy. The atmosphere is lovely but due to the poor food, I would not recommend it for breakfast.

Had dinner here on a Friday night. Atmosphere and ambiance are perfect. Nice for a date, good music (unlike some upscale restaurants that I've been to who play horrible electronic music on weekend nights). Ordered the Sole and the Cod, both were just alright and a bit expensive for the portions. Definitely get the Escargot and Profiteroles, best dishes we had and super delicious. Also had the Endive Salad which was simple, good. A bit disappointing that they didn't have more classic french dishes like Duck Confit, though they do have one special for each day of the week. Pretty happy with the meal and service good too.

As noted in several other reviews, Aquitaine used to be a great place for Sunday brunch. Emphasis on used to be. Consistency has fallen way off since early summer. Wait staff seems to have turned over but they try hard to make up for long waits (for reserved tables) the arrogant rudeness of the hostess, and the mistakes coming out of the kitchen.

IMHO its management and training issues plaguing this once favorite spot. Maybe we’ll give it a try again in 2018. Then again, lots of other options to explore.

The hostess cancelled our table because we were 14min late. We had to wait 30min for them to accommodate us.

The hostesses (2 of them) were very rude and unwelcoming. I encourage the management to put someone who knows how to smile in this position.

Otherwise the waiter was very nice, friendly and smiling. The food was slow to come but was v good.

Friendly and efficient service, although I think the policy of waiting until an entire party arrives to seat guests is silly and in need of retirement (especially when there’s a reservation); it just off-putting and rude.

My complaint was with my food, which was disappointing: an omelet that was cold and hard, almost no cheese and tiny chewy bits of ham. Not the luxurious dining I used to expect from Aquitaine. Really rather meh.

I would have given a higher overall rating had the noise level been less. It was exacerbated by the playing of overly loud and "energetic" music featuring a thumping bass. When I asked if it could be turned down a bit, I was told no. Given that the noise level is quite high, even without the music, my two friends and I struggled to hear each other.
I ordered salmon with different sides than those described on the menu. I was disappointed that leafy greens – spinach or kale – are no longer available as sides. And even though kale was on the menu as a side for other dishes, I was told the only greens they had available were green beans.
The menu overall is much, much more limited than it used to be. It's also now geared to meat-eaters. Being a pescatarian, the menu offered little choice for me.
Nonetheless, my dish (salmon, green beans, and mashed potatoes) and those of my friends were very tastily prepared/cooked.
To recap: If the menu were to have more choices for non-meat eaters and the noise level were to be lower, I would give a five-star rating to the first four items on the list.

we were in a lovely area of this long and narrow restaurant, in an enclosed area off to the right, at a banquette table for three. the view through the large windows of the bustle on the street added to the festive atmosphere on this Monday night. The dinner was delicious from salads to fish entrees to a gnocchi dish, which was wonderful. My only complaint was a very unusual tasting manhattan pre-dinner -- which the server graciously offered to replace with another. Perfectly paced meal. We have eaten here many times, and we have always enjoyed the evening.
