Been there quite a few times- seldom disappointed. Can always count on a tasty and well presented dinner. Excellent and helpful service, very good (tho not exceptional) food with an interesting menu and friendly atmosphere. And not too noisy - that counts for a lot with us when we eat out as does nearby Valet parking.
Ended up in Boston for a night & decided to make a special day/night of it - visited Aquitaine once before nearly 20 years ago and remembered it being a special spot and great experience all around; this return visit did not disappoint! Great service, ambiance, food & wine, exactly what I had in mind for a upscale experience, but unpretentious environment. Staff was courteous, friendly, and attentive!
I love coming here. The service is excellent and the ambiance relaxing. This is the first visit where I haven’t loved the food. The plat du jour of skate frites sounded like a delightful offering. The salad and frites were excellent, but the skate was seriously undercooked. The waiter graciously took it back to the kitchen, but it came back not much warmer than when I sent it back. I’m chalking this up to a bad night in the kitchen and look forward to returning again.
Beyond awful. I haven't dined at Aquitaine in a long time, but I recall that it was very good. And I do dine at their other restaurants. My recent experiences at Cinquecento and Gaslight have been positive. But on Sunday I took 2 out of town guests for brunch and I was embarrassed. The waiter was awful. And the food was a waste of what may have been perfectly good ingredients. A friend ordered a cobb salad and was told they were out of chicken confit, nearest he could offer was pork. Not a popular meat for many people. So she asked for roast chicken, turkey, any other kind of poultry. Nope, just pork, so she ordered all sides. I ordered a Croque Monsieur. Truly disgusting. When it was put in front of me I knew it wasn't going to be good. The "bread" was just sopping with "hollandaise". The "hollandaise" had a very sharp taste of mustard. Just badly made. There was a TON of sauce with shaved bits of ham and this sopping wet piece of bread. Really there was nothing else they could have done to ruin the dish. The third in our party also left a good deal of her meal. Not one of us was happy. Oh yes, they ran out of Earl Grey tea. I had to ask for milk after the alternate choice was delivered. I hope the "waiter" has a Plan B. He never asked if we were done with our meals and was picking up our plates before we'd finished (I'm guessing we're not the first people to leave much of our meals on our plates), never asked if our meals were good, never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. There was loud pulsating 80s music playing the entire time. For brunch? in 2018? I would never go back and I would never recommend it. And it makes me think twice about recommending any of their other restaurants. I don't know how they stay in business...and they won't be getting more of mine.
Great service and wonderful choices for brunch.
Horrible meal. Have always loved Aquitaine for a regular meal. Pork carnitas were old and reheated over and over, they were described as shredded and were chunks of old meat. Other dish was hit as described as all. It was described as a frittata w tomato and chick peas. It was basically poached eggs w peppers! Really horrible food. Worst meal I’ve had in years and I dine out for business and personal several times a week. I’m so sad as I don’t think I’ll return again or will stick w bread and French onion soup!
A great evening with delicious steak frites, cod, escargot and the pinot noir from Oregon. The greens salad was better than the endive and the onion soup was delicious. Chocolate mouse good and loved the tart tartan. Enjoyed having four in our booth. Disappointment of the evening was having a reservation and not getting seated for half hour and not being offered a drink or appetizer.
Came here from brunch. Had the shrimp and grits. It was incredible. Can’t wait to come back!!
Second time at this restaurant and it seems to be slipping: service was impersonal, atmosphere was noisy and chilly, food mediocre (lobster bisque arrived cold: when this was pointed out to server, he consulted with the chef and returned saying, effectively, tant pis (too bad). Both fish dishes were doused with a nondescript white sauce. Prices are high for this mediocre quality. We will eat elsewhere....
Lovely hostess and service staff
Impeccable service and food quality
Wonderful location and service. Only wish the portions were a little bigger!
Excellent service. Great food. Very nice and thoughtful staff.
Aquitaine always excellent!
I knocked off a star because, like so many places, the music is too loud. But we had a wonderful meal and the service was very good.
This was an amazing meal. Thankfully we made reservations but still needed to wait a little bit in their very small vestibule, but it was so worth the wait. There were the perfect number of choices, each more delicious than the next. The portion size was perfect as we both cleaned our plates, but leave room for the dessert!
Looking forward to making an excuse to be back in the city so we can eat there again!
Very disappointed with brunch not as good as it usually is.
Portions were large but there was poor quality and overall basic diner type food.
Not something you would expect from a French bistro.
Aquitaine is a visual delight! You can't help but stare in awe of the curated decor and finished of the lovely cafe. The food is even better, if you can believe it! Sizable portions for French cuisine. Lastly, the cocktails were refreshing - and packed a punch!
It doesn't have the same type or quality of food that it had for years. The service is outstanding and the ambience is nice.
I really like the professional service and great food, special food, not everyday food!
We loved our meal at Aquitaine! Our waiter was very helpful recommending his favorite items on the menu when we asked and the food was amazing! It's decorated beautifully as well, but is small so I would recommend making reservations.
Lovely setting for brunch. Food was good (especially the Lyonnaise potatoes). Wonderful, attentive service.
Love this spot
Food and servers were very good. However, on a freezing evening, we were subjected to cold breezes from the outside due to a table too close to the door. Only after asking several times did the servers remember to close the inside door each time they came through..and not convenient for them either.
Secondly, and not as important, we had noted on open table that it was a special occasion..my birthday..and no one acknowledged it.
Went for my boyfriend’s birthday - what a fantastic meal!
We were seated promptly, and the server did a nice job. We were all impressed by the general ambience, but the five of us were seated at a strange oblong table that made it difficult to make our plates fit; people also kept mistaking whose cutlery and water glasses were whose because of the table's bizarre shape. That said, the food was good; we each ordered different items, and enjoyed everything, although the duck was especially fatty and the escargot was not served in shells (which is what I expected at a French bistro). We were also a bit disappointed that there was no cheese on the menu...but really, these are small points. We had a great time and have no significant complaints.
The waiter was great informative and friendly and tr food was superb as was the service
We were quite pleased by the food and ambience! We were a little disappointed with the service, as it felt like we were left feeling neglected for extended spans of time with the dinner orders not being taken in a timely fashion and then later waiting for the dessert menu long after the dishes had been cleared away. It was not so long to have warranted walking out, but for the supposed caliber of this restaurant, we had hoped for better. It almost felt like the servers at times deliberately avoided your eye.
Thankfully our waitress was excellent because with the host being our first impression we almost left. We had a reservation and had to wait 25 min after our time to be seating. But were then only seated after I reminded him we were waiting AND he sat a couple that said loud enough for us to hear, they did not have a reservation but handed him a cash tip and was seated before us! With the vast number of restaurants in Boston, we will not be back.
Got there for 7pm reservation on time. Waited 45 minutes for table of 6 for 8 of us! Squashed in space! Table seated there before had a 6:15 reservation, so 7pm was never going to work. Don't promise what you know you will never be able to deliver!
Great service. New chef. All is well at Aquitaine.
I went with friend before theater. Our MO is to share everything, even a glass of wine! The waiter did not look aghast, and we left feeling very satisfied with a great house salad, split, and the duck breast, beautifully presented and yummy, also split.
I LOVE this Restaurant. I have been going to it since it opened and it has stayed consistently excellent. The food is magnificent, particularly the sole! The service is great and the new renovations I really terrific. I cannot say enough about this restaurant.
I went to brunch with a group of friends and everyone was happy with the service and meals. Good drinks too! My group goes to brunch often and this was one of our favs! The only thing that we didn't enjoy, that is not even a complaint, is how crowded and tight the seating is. But we understood after we had the food! Well worth a drive here or stop by if in the neighborhood.
Love everything about this place! It has the perfect mix of neighborhood casual with elevated dining experience. The room is beautiful, the staff is friendly and efficient and the food is really good!! Being here makes me smile!
It was good.
The meal was wonderful. We had apps, entrees, desserts, & drinks. The whole experience was terrific.
Nice lunch before a theatre matinee. Very nice service.
Food was ridiculously delicious, server, Chris was awesome.
We have been to Aquitaine for Sunday brunch several times. It never fails to please. Varied enough menu, great service, tasty food - french style - (and they were able to accommodate one of our party who has milk allergies). They have good size booths and we were seated on time. You can't beat that!
