Aquitaine Ratings and Reviews
Aquitaine is a visual delight! You can't help but stare in awe of the curated decor and finished of the lovely cafe. The food is even better, if you can believe it! Sizable portions for French cuisine. Lastly, the cocktails were refreshing - and packed a punch!
Food and servers were very good. However, on a freezing evening, we were subjected to cold breezes from the outside due to a table too close to the door. Only after asking several times did the servers remember to close the inside door each time they came through..and not convenient for them either.
Secondly, and not as important, we had noted on open table that it was a special occasion..my birthday..and no one acknowledged it.
We were seated promptly, and the server did a nice job. We were all impressed by the general ambience, but the five of us were seated at a strange oblong table that made it difficult to make our plates fit; people also kept mistaking whose cutlery and water glasses were whose because of the table's bizarre shape. That said, the food was good; we each ordered different items, and enjoyed everything, although the duck was especially fatty and the escargot was not served in shells (which is what I expected at a French bistro). We were also a bit disappointed that there was no cheese on the menu...but really, these are small points. We had a great time and have no significant complaints.
We were quite pleased by the food and ambience! We were a little disappointed with the service, as it felt like we were left feeling neglected for extended spans of time with the dinner orders not being taken in a timely fashion and then later waiting for the dessert menu long after the dishes had been cleared away. It was not so long to have warranted walking out, but for the supposed caliber of this restaurant, we had hoped for better. It almost felt like the servers at times deliberately avoided your eye.
Thankfully our waitress was excellent because with the host being our first impression we almost left. We had a reservation and had to wait 25 min after our time to be seating. But were then only seated after I reminded him we were waiting AND he sat a couple that said loud enough for us to hear, they did not have a reservation but handed him a cash tip and was seated before us! With the vast number of restaurants in Boston, we will not be back.
I LOVE this Restaurant. I have been going to it since it opened and it has stayed consistently excellent. The food is magnificent, particularly the sole! The service is great and the new renovations I really terrific. I cannot say enough about this restaurant.
I went to brunch with a group of friends and everyone was happy with the service and meals. Good drinks too! My group goes to brunch often and this was one of our favs! The only thing that we didn't enjoy, that is not even a complaint, is how crowded and tight the seating is. But we understood after we had the food! Well worth a drive here or stop by if in the neighborhood.
We have been to Aquitaine for Sunday brunch several times. It never fails to please. Varied enough menu, great service, tasty food - french style - (and they were able to accommodate one of our party who has milk allergies). They have good size booths and we were seated on time. You can't beat that!
We love Aquitaine for pre theater meals. Most recently we went for a late brunch. The menu is innovative and provides great options. The staff is gracious and attentive. Our orders were delicious, and left us wanting to further explore the menu. We'll definitely return.
Always good at Aquitaine. Would usually give it all "very good" to "outstanding" but for this particular evening our party of six was in the front room next to the front windows, normally the place to be, but the temperature outside was in the low teens at best and the room was not that much warmer. We all wore our down parkas during dinner as they were having some issue with keeping the temperature inside up to snuff. Hence, not the usual, enjoyable evening at Aquitaine. We will be back, however; perhaps not on a rather cold evening, but a typically very good restaurant otherwise.
I love Aquitaine. I use to dine at Aquitaine when I lived in Boston 10 years ago. This was the first time in 10 years I finally went again. The decor was updated beautifully. The food even better than what I remember. Now my favorite in Boston and that is coming from s person who frequents Manhattan restaurants.
Hadn't been to Aquitaine for several years (just because of a change in favorite theatres) but was happy to find that it's now at least as good as in the past. The service was a real team effort, and uniformly friendly. We discovered a new dish, gnocchi and rabbit, that was astonishingly well seasoned, and a Trimbach wine I'd managed to overlook for much too long. The menu and wine list will give us much to explore when we return, and we most certainly will. Highly recommended.
OK Aquitaine, all is forgiven...
Our visit after a long absence was a brilliant success on all counts. A January encounter had left us disappointed - surprisingly bland, under-seasoned food (!), very atypical for this lovely restaurant - where had our long-time favorite Aquitaine gone? Well, happy to say, it's back. Front desk greeting was warm, the room itself remains a stunner, from the Italian-designed oscillating golden ceiling fans to the gentle lighting, bright enough to read the menu, yet soft enough for creating an inviting mood. Seating is a bit tight, but roomy enough on the elegant banquettes that run the length of one side of the space. An eclectic clientele, running the gamut from South End hipsters out for a quick bite to nattily attired couples and foursomes, dressed like people used to dress when going out on the town. The menu is still very interesting, with a wide choice of options and daily specials. One of us opted for a creamy and rich black truffle risotto appetizer followed by a piquant filet of beef au poivre, perfectly sauced and prepared just as specified, accompanied by a delicious potato galette. We also enjoyed an endive salad with walnuts and bleu cheese - fresh and beautifully balanced - and a tender and delicious sautéed herbed veal special served with a silky rich potato puree and perfect haricots verts, with wonderful enoki mushrooms peeking out from under - absolutely delicious. Diego, our knowledgeable server, was first-class, catering to our every request and offering us perfect wine pairings from Aquitaine's comprehensive list.
This was a lovely, unrushed evening of top-drawer bistro-style dining, with attentive service and carefully prepared, delicious food. Bravo, Aquitaine - we'll be back very soon.
