The portions here are small, which is standard for a French restaurant. The thing that irritated me the most and why am writing this review is because they changed my receipt and added $30 more onto it when I got my credit card charge. I think this was fairly sneaky and potentially a regular practice of theirs. Make sure you save your receipt so you can dispute the charge.
On a very busy marathon weekend night, and after a brief delayin getting service, we had a wonderful meal from an experienced server who knew the menu backwards and forwards. We enjoyed the new menu choices, having dined here many times, and the food was terrific. A great evening.
Great service-great food. Small portions.
Table was ready on time. We requested our favorite Waitress and we were seated in her section. The service was impeccable, and the food divine. Every dish arrived at the appropriate time and perfectly cooked. They had our first choice of Chateau Neuf du Pape. This is our favorite restaurant in Boston and it never disappoints.
The space between tables could be larger. Otherwise it was a great experience!
Nothing special about the food albeit a limited menu
Our server was incredible. Really nice guy who helped us pick out wonderful drinks. Unfortunately the food wasn’t very good, especially the salmon tartare which was almost inedible. It’s a nice venue in a wonderful location so will give it another try another night.
Fantastic experience. This is now one of my favorite spots in the city.
This place consistently delivers on delicious food in a comfortable environment, with outstanding service. Our group particularly enjoyed the mussels, steak frites, gnocci Sunday night special and the duck. The bread pudding for dessert was the perfect ending. Love this place
Aquitaine remains our favorite "go to" restaurant, both for special meals, a spontaneous desire for a welcoming place and a great meal, or after a bad day when we crave a convivial atmosphere. The service strikes the perfect balance of professionalism and open friendliness. The decor feels like a classic french bistro, without being a stage set. The wine list never disappoints, and the cocktails are exactly as they should be. Needless to say, it's a happy place for us!
Chicken was served burnt on outside fully raw on inside, my friend's croque madame was also undercooked but he didn't want to wait. In the whole it felt rushed, which is very different than any dinner experience I've had her over the last ten plus years.
Always wonderful to dine there!! Food delicious and service fabulous!!
Our waitress was very attentive, refilling my coffee without my having to ask for a refill. I had requested a table at the window in a quiet area of the restaurant and my request was honored.
The hostess recognized me from previous visits and greeted me very warmly.
The food was excellent and the chocolate mousse was to die for!
Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Great service. Enjoyed the steak frites more than the sole muniere. Great bargain with free dessert with theatre tix. Delicious profiteroles. Very enjoyable.
It was delicious and the ambiance was incredible -- we were in the side room which was much quieter with soft lighting. We were able to have an intimate dinner and totally relax.
Excellent as always. Julianna and Samantha are always attentive, professional and a delight to interact with.
Aquitaine Boston before a show was cozy and enjoyable. On a nice night it's a pleasant walk to the theater district. We had the sole which was delicious but the smidgen of potatoes was too small. It is pricey so one must consider that when choosing it. Service was great. Overall lovely in a nice section of South Boston.
Everything we had to eat was excellent -- the fois gras fudge was sublime, the steak frites done perfectly, and the trio of sorbets for dessert were just the right combination of flavorful and refreshing. Service was great and the ambiance was charming.
Atmosphere is very good and service was fine. The food was bland and tasteless even with high quality ingredients. Good French restaurants serve tasty if not memorable dishes and Acquitane just didn’t accomplish this.
This is simply the best restaurant in Boston and one of the best I have been to around the world. The food is excellent as are the surroundings and the staff are attentive and engaging in the most appropriate way without overstepping any boundaries. John is an exceptional staff member who is clearly proud of what he does and is one of those rear people takes great pleasure in service and is very proud of where he works.
Incredible service and we were sat in a quiet front spot which was perfect for our dinner. Made our theater evening a special event
We really enjoyed our brunch greatly. We liked the atmosphere and were appreciative of the excellent service. The food was fine and we felt that it was good value for money.
Great birthday spot! Wonderful food and terrific service!
My wife’s dinner was very good. My dinner was so undercooked it was inedible. All I received was a sorry from the waiter. It was our first time there but unfortunately it will be our last.
I am usually the one to select a restaurant among my friends. This is the rare restaurant that all my guests were impressed with the food and service. One of my friends said that the mussels were the best she has ever eaten. I had the Japanese omelette which my coincidence I have viewed a recipe for on the internet. The waitperson was attentive, funny, and enthusiastic. Our experience was perfect for brunch. Would love to return for dinner.
Tasty food. Great service.
We had the perfect round table in the window that set the scene for an evening me and my adult children thoroughly enjoyed. The best part was John our waiter who was friendly and engaging while allowing us the space to truly enjoy ourselves!! We’ll all be back soon.
This was our first meal at Aquitaine, and we're bummed we never got here sooner! Everything was terrific, from the warm greetings from the hosts; terrific, knowledgeable service from our server John to the wonderful food and nice conversation with nearby table mates. We highly recommend Aquitaine, we'll be back!
Always a favorite
Excellent meal and service. Don’t understand any negative reviews. Loved the duck, filet and profiteroles.
Madame Defarge will be manning the bar, so enter if you enjoy being treated like unwelcome street urchins. With our 5pm reservation, especially made to celebrate our 12 year wedding anniversary, paying homage to our first trip overseas together to Paris, we entered. When questioned by her I stated we had a reservation for 5, it was about 4:50. She informed us that the kitchen was closed and there was no place for us. So I asked if there was a spot where we could wait, the whole place was empty except the full bar and she said no we couldn't be seated anywhere. I sarcastically asked if we should just hang out at the bar and she said that was fine but of course I would not with my child! Then she came to look at the book and asked if we had a reservation and I told her again yes we were there to celebrate our anniversary. She said coldly and carelessly well they are having a meeting in the dining room so you have to wait. My husband walked in from parking the car and couldn't understand why we were left standing there like that. So he suggested we sit down at one of the empty tables and wait until "exactly 5." At 5, I went over to the maitre d and asked her if she realized we were just left to sit there and noticed us. She said she didn't, even though she saw us and never offered an apology. She said someone should be coming over soon! My husband had had enough and it ruined any hopes of a worthy evening. The manager finally showed up and instead of him apologizing and offering to make it up, he said they were lucky to have the hostess there and she was gracious enough to be helping them out tonight! Well I guess they need all the help they can get but I should never have had to be bothered with that information. Sit your hostess down and cater to her dinner whimsy because we were done.
Went there on our anniversary.
The design of the restaurant and feel was very “French”.
Food was delicious and was a good value.
Would definitely go back.
Birthday treat for my wife.
Really bland dishes! Good service and ambiance, but dishes did not live up to their lovely descriptions on menu.
Excellent food and service close to the south end theater scene making it convenient for a a pre theater dinner
Food was just so-so. French onion soup broth not very flavorful. Gougeres used to be great, now just ok. Cocktail was horrible. Waiter kind of surly. Dessert not great. Spent $200 for 2 of us and total;ly not worth it. So many other places with great food and drinks.
I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The restaurant wasn’t full but the waiters couldn’t handle the orders. The tartare was so-so with a very greasy rice foil, the French fries were gewy and seemed as if they had been cooked for a long time. Very bad overall.
Waiter was not attentive
Never came back to pour our additional wine
Wonderful French bistro with food to delight the taste buds and friendly staff.
Nothing to write home about, but no complaints either. Brunch was pricey and nothing was noteworthy.
